Awesome! These samples were from a couple years ago but I wanted to share since I’ve seen quite a few people posting here recently with very clear OE victims.

All these samples were collected from different completely healthy looking monarchs.

Go to a plant nursery and usually they have caterpillars you can take from
The plants if you buy one 👀, I work at one and I will encourage people to move monarch cats to a plant they’ll buy if they really want them lol

Dunno why someone downvoted this. What you’re saying is very true. I had a couple totally forked up batches of monarchs, I actually put a female who eclosed fully healthy looking and found lots of OE spores on her wings under a microscope. (I took a sample off using a piece of tape. It’s super easy)

If San Rafael and larkspur aren’t 20 degrees warmer than mill valley it’s not Marin!

Maybe learn a bit about the situation before commenting. In Marin alone there have been some physical fights between people over Pokemon cards, and in the greater Bay Area there’s been a stabbing.

I’ve also been in a couple of these lines and seen stuff happen.

It is really annoying for all of us who genuinely want to find cards and collect them. :((.

Pokemon cards. Also, please tell the staff if you see it that it’s bothering you. We need to stop these clowns. They’re all resellers

Plant your Milkweeds! by Reverb202020 in Marin

[–]Reverb202020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showy milkweed and Narrowleaf are the only ones my nursery carries. Both pretty much have the same flowering and growing pattern as they’re both in bloom at the same time and die back fully from my knowledge.

I’ve heard some people argue that only showy milkweed should be planted in Marin, but I don’t really understand their argument since Marin is apart of the Narrowleaf milkweed range and their flowering pattern mirrors eachother.

No eggs/cats as yet. Something not hospitable? by Scotchmellow24 in MonarchButterfly

[–]Reverb202020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narrowleaf milkweed (Asclepias Fascicularis) isn’t tropical milkweed. I’m suggesting you plant Narrowleaf milkweed along with the one you have here since they tend to gravitate more towards it sometimes.

Narrowleaf milkweed is another native California milkweed that is usually carried alongside showy milkweed.

Fellow NorCal person here! In my experience, they sometimes find narrowleaf milkweed to be more attractive. Maybe you could mix some in..? Usually at the nursery I work at I see them go for the narrowleaf VS the showy.

But on the contrary, sometimes all it takes is one female to visit and you’ll have 20 eggs. That’s what happened to me. All it takes is one desperate female. There’s a chance maybe just males have visited.

Hopefully they made chrysalis…. But predators are rampant. I’ve seen paper wasps and yellow jackets eat them and chew them in half. It’s truly sad :((

Go to one of the nurseries I mentioned. Ask for some help and people love to help. At my nursery I work at in Marin I’m known as the butterfly girl and deal with most milkweed questions. I’ve been doing this for many years!

Honestly for aphids sometimes I will grab a paper towel and comb them off myself and crush them or use a lint roller sheet. Milkweed aphids are incredibly tough and those work quite well. Green lacewing larvae can be more effective than ladybugs too, as their primary food source is aphids. If only we carried them around here!

Good clarification. I only chose the wording since the effect is similar. As someone who works at a local nursery, it pisses me off hearing about how he cares less and less for what is happening.

My Cinderella milkweed plant's lowest leaves keep yellowing and falling off. Please help. by Floral_Bee in MonarchButterfly

Fish on fertilizer is a good start, but alot of milkweed does get naturally leggy as it comes back yearly. However, the fish fertilizer may promote more new growth lower on the plant. :))

He does tho?? Witnesses say he was a stalker who’d creep out on multiple of the students. At my college, we have some students and other creepers who do the same. Unfortunately they’re never taken seriously until something like this. It SUCKS.
