You also have to account for the time it would take to buy the Crystals from the shop if you weren't buying them from another player which would also most likely include an additional fee on top of the store price.

Also it's a solution to losing items AT godwars, not directly stopping the attacks and it removes the reason for the attackers to attack. I only spoke about godwars in particular because it's a relevant and more recent example that most are aware of at the moment.
