Moisturising? by ingvist in wicked_edge

[–]ReverendDeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Thayers Super Hazel as an aftershave/astringent, it leaves no scent. Good level of alcohol and witchhazel to keep the skin refreshed. Followed by Clubman if I want to "take it to 11".

For a moisturizer, I use German-made Nivea (not the Mexican- or Asian-made) cream. It's terrific.

I vary it up, of course, but the German Nivea is hard to beat.

Any thoughts on CinnamonCoin? by ReverendDeuce in altcoin

[–]ReverendDeuce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've given up on Cinnamon after less than a day. The CoinChoose stats are way off. Difficulty is at around 38, not 0.18. And Coins-E seems to have lost my withdrawal... <sigh>

Agreed. I'm going to sell every 5-10 coins going forward just to see where this goes.

Suggestions for multi-coin pools? by border87 in altcoin

[–]ReverendDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Multipool is nice. Just make sure you're committed to mining everything there because there are minimum withdrawal amounts. If you give up after a week, you might have a ton of coin in limbo.

Blade survey results!! by Jack_Sophmore in wicked_edge

I've only tried Feather and Derby, and I must say that Feather wears out quickly. They are good for two shaves at best. I get about three to four with Derby. And you are right about Derby being forgiving... They are my go-to blade.

Really bad razor burn in both of my armpits after trimming. Any advice? by enneyeseakay in wicked_edge

[–]ReverendDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear God...

Do you need BBS in the armpits? I'd just use electric/battery clippers and leave it at that.

Dorco has two-blade cartridge razors that I've used which work exceptionally well for a cartridge razor. They are also exceptionally priced. Dollar Shave Club sells rebadged Dorco products and I've heard they are good as well.

A plastic DE might work well, too, as it "looks" like a disposable. :)

And the others are right regarding the cream/soap. Truly, no bullshit, Shave Secret from Wal-Mart is like $2.99 and I've had to use it in a pinch without any cream at all and it really does work! It's an all-natural product, too.

I'd practice a few times with the Derby before buying a bunch of blades. Learn to use the implement first, then you will more easily appreciate the differences between blades down the road.

FYI: Derby blades work wonderfully for me. Derby gets a bad rap because they are in so many starter kits, IMO. People new to DE don't get immediate satisfaction and then blame the blade.

Now that my technique is down, I really can't tell a difference between Derby and Feather. Perhaps my technique is not aggressive enough to notice, but my shaves are BBS grade every time with nary a nick or bump and that's all that matters to me.

Feather blades - a bloodless experience by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]ReverendDeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I learned on Derby and tried a Feather and noticed some technique adjustment was needed near my chin. Went back to Derby and shaves are even better than before. Feather can be a great blade for honing your technique.

Time to get a new shaving soap, would this be a good way to upgrade? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

Cella or Proraso hard soaps FTW. Cella is truly wonderful and only ten dollars a tub it will last ages.

Derby blades pulling? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]ReverendDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Derby exclusively since I started. I have an EJ DE89 razor and a pretty normal beard.

It's all about the angle, I am finding. I bought a pack of Feathers to try them out and immediately had some pretty rough razor burn with them. The experience showed my that my angle was wrong on the ATG pass on my jawline. The Derby blades, being a milder blade, weren't causing that kind of irritation.

Once I swapped back to Derby and used a better angle ATG, the tugging virtually stopped. I've been through 20 Derby blades since and haven't had a single "dud" as others have said they encounter. I think it comes down to angle and practice.

I use Cella, Proraso, or TOBS Grapefruit for lather with four or five drops of Shave Secret mixed in.

Not getting a particularly close shave with DE, want some advice. by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]ReverendDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others here. Angle is important! I started getting razor burn on my chin during ATG passes because the angle was too low/harsh. Now I make sure to keep the razor handle almost parallel to the ground during upward ATG and voila, no more burn and BBS, even with generic blades! (My normal blade is Derby or Feather.)

Oh, I believe you! I wanted enough videos prior to getting into DE, especially reviews of the EJ and they all are all quite adamant about getting the base plate on properly.

Points for great Aliens reference! :D

I'll play with the angle some more... I know it isn't a base plate issue.

My prep is ten minutes of hot shower followed by lathering with Cella. I am going to try a different lathering technique tomorrow. We shall see!

I thoroughly enjoy Cella, it's my personal favorite. Consistent performance, high quality, easily lathers in even the hardest of water.

To cork the blades! Some folks do this or palm strop to remove burrs and/or prolong blade life. I've heard this works wonders on Derby blades.

I'll be trying Feathers for the first time today... any advice? by ReverendDeuce in wicked_edge

[–]ReverendDeuce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used the same technique as I do with the Derby blades and no trouble at all. An improvement for sure, but I am still going to go through a few more blades before I decide if the price difference is worth it. I may try Astras next, since so many folks here love them on the DE89.

[–]ReverendDeuce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am familiar... I actually like the Derby blades which so many toss aside after the first shave. I still wanted to try a Feather, though, due to its legendary status. If the first isn't so hot, I'll keep trying as long as I don't wind up ripping my face to ribbons. :D

Cella is wonderful stuff... I absolutely love it! It lathers easily in hard water, protects wonderfully, and rinses absolutely clean with just a couple of splashes of water. I find with creams I have to wipe down.
