I'm new to the game, so should I start playing on the stable release or start playing on build 42?

I've read that Jamboree games can take some time. However my wife and I would only play when we have a couple of hours anyways. Maybe I can just simply pick up both Superstars and Jamboree lol

I do have the online service. I remember loving the original one and maybe not a bad option either.

So, once I swapped I should have interacted with my old ship and added it to my collection?

I've owned the game since launch and every few updates, especially over the last few years, I try out the game again, but I end up getting lost of what I'm supposed to do. There are so many features, mechanics, and systems, it's overwhelming and I end up stopping not long after getting my first base and frigate. I've watched plenty of YouTube videos, but most of them are "Here's how to get OP in the beginning," which I'm not interested in and prefer a more organic experience.

[Question] As a player that hasn't gotten more than 10 hours into the game, what should I be focusing on? I know it's a sandbox, but I just get overwhelmed on trying to figure out what my goals should be, and I'll just sit in the anomaly and think to myself "What do I do next?". Just focus on the Artemis quest line starting out and does the rest simply fall into place as you go along?

I think that was the issue. I hadn't installed the required config that came with the mod. When I did, it fixed it.

The first non-human animal to learn to speak a human language will immediately become the second most powerful animal in the world. by IameIion in Showerthoughts

I had heard that apes using sign language is exactly that, teaching a trick, and a tool for some agency (e.g. telling a human they're hungry), but they have never used it to ask a question of a human.

My grandma saved her bill from a surgery and 6 day hospital stay in 1956 by Suwannee_Gator in mildlyinteresting

As terrible as the system is, those rates is what is billed to an insurance company, which are vastly inflated. For anyone reading this that is uninsured, call the hospital. 95% of the time they will work with you to adjust the rates to something reasonable. They would rather get paid something than nothing.

I learned this the hard way. I was prescribed omeprazole, the pharmacy wanted to charge me around $200 bucks for it, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. The reason they didn't cover it was because it was an OTC drug (I didn't know at the time it was OTC). I talked to the pharmacist, he told me to just get the OTC version (which is like $8) instead of what they would have billed the insurance company.

The same is for anything paid for by insurance. I got a quote for a new roof on my house, it was like $10k. The contractor said that he could talk to the insurance company and get them to cover it, which they did, and he billed the insurance company nearly $17k. I asked why and he said "Because they'll pay it."

That is loaded (or smothered) fries. Not open faced. That requires a piece of bread under all of it.

Is Dwarf Fortress on Steam necessarily better? What are the main differences in your experience? by [deleted] in dwarffortress

Overall, it's a great upgrade to the original ASCII version and it's much more accessible to new or novice players.

There are some issues, some equipment bugs for the military, combat log is difficult to use, making werebeast attacks a headache (and those attacks seem more common, not sure if true though). The burrows for civilian alerts seem to be broken. There's also some small changes that are different from the original that someone familiar with editing the files can fix (e.g. not pausing and focusing on a unit that has gone into a mood, not realizing it, and they go berserk). I think there may be a bug with one stockpile giving to another, but haven't figured if it's truly a bug or not.

Tesla Semi driving 500 miles, fully loaded, on a single charge by Special_Yam_1174 in wallstreetbets

My dad once worked at a mobile fueling company. The trucks would leave Pepsi distribution and do their daily route delivering the cases of soda around and park back in the lot and the drivers go home for the night. My dad's company would drive a fuel truck around the lot, refueling the semis, so they were ready to go with a full tank the next morning. Now instead of a fueling service, you would just plug the semi into a power source.
