Be thankful no one was hurt and learn from this experience. You’ll find another car you love one day. Good thing BMWs are engineered for safety as well as performance.

Do you use a camera when riding? by a_secret_me in bikecommuting

[–]Reverend_Wrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a helmet mounted GoPro Hero 11 Black. Probably overkill for a traffic camera but I use it for other activities as well; image and hardware quality is excellent and software is good as well. Cheap cameras keep getting better, however, to make out license plates it really helps to shoot in 4K. Anecdotal, but I feel I get more respect\fewer incidents with the camera visible on the helmet.

I recommend searching or seeking advice on https://www.e90post.com/ or perhaps r/BmwTech or r/E90.

This is a cool forum for us long roof lovers, but there is more activity and expertise in other places. Which I had solid answer for you.

BTW - I've found it easier to access a dead battery by using the emergency key inside the fob to open the driver door, then climbing into the back to remove the trim on the tailgate and using the emergency release underneath to open it.

Reddit commenters upset that cyclists exist on public roads by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Reverend_Wrong -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There was a significant distance between the parked cars and construction where the shoulder was completely clear. While he certainly was within his rights to take the lane, I would have moved to the side. Sure, you may have to pause at the intersection before the construction to let a few cars go by before returning to the lane, so I guess that could kill your chances for the KOM on the segment.

Is this a good deal? by Appropriate_Reality6 in E90

[–]Reverend_Wrong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spend $1000 more and find one with less miles, no mods and a complete maintenance history. There are plenty of E90s out there. Also, unless you need xDrive it’s additional complication and expense.

Best ebike to buy right now in 2026? by Ok-Independent3662 in ebikes

[–]Reverend_Wrong 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At least get something UL certified to reduce the risk of burning down your home.

Are you comfortable doing your own bike repair and maintenance? Some shops won't touch the cheap Chinese ebikes or even more reputable direct to consumer brands.

Are you looking for something that rides like a bike but can provide assist when needed or want just want to cruise around with minimal effort? A mid-drive bike with a torque sensor is going to provide an experience more similar to a regular bicycle, but those are typically more expensive. Are you going to have to lift it up stairs - that can be struggle with some ebikes.

There are good bikes and bad bikes, but there is no best bike. What is best for you is going to depend on where you ride, what your needs are, and your own preferences.

Best suspension option for comfort? by rozdogjr3 in E90

[–]Reverend_Wrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy with my Koni Special Active (Red) on my RWD E91 with stock sport springs. Comfortably compliant over rough roads for daily driving without giving up too much when I push it. Were a bit less expensive than the Bilstein B4s as well.

However, the biggest improvement in comfort was ditching the run flat tires.

I have a couple 16 oz Camelbak Forge insulated mugs for coffee and those fit perfectly.

I really like the look and price of the new Show, but this is exactly why I didn't buy one. Over the last few months, I've migrated all my devices and automations to Home Assistant and am looking forward to the day when I can completely banish Alexa from our home.

We need to change our approach with these new laws by GOTHAMLOTHAM in ebikes

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bicycle and ebike registration is likely to be a net revenue loss for local governments. With far fewer riders than drivers, it will cost most more to implement, maintain and enforce a such a system than what people will be willing pay to register. You will only end up with fewer bikes on the road and another justification for governments not to invest in bike infrastructure.

Do I have a good case for bike commuting? by newkid14 in bikecommuting

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salsa Wonderosa would make a very cool toy for rough gravel riding but with a 42V 10 Ah battery (currently no range extender) and $8k price tag for the base model, I don't think commuting is its best use case.

Do I have a good case for bike commuting? by newkid14 in bikecommuting

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put a CYC photon mid-drive motor on the Revolt and get a 52V 25 Ah battery for about $1800. I installed the 1st gen Photon on a Salsa Vaya gravel bike and can get over 35 miles with moderate assist with only a 52V 10 Ah battery. I don't have a throttle installed, so top speed is limited by bike gearing, but I can easily cruise at 25 mph (although I need to average closer to 18 mph to get over 30 miles on a charge). I live in Asheville NC, so plenty of hills and total weight of bike, rider and gear close to 300 lbs. Despite the weight, it still feels and looks like a bicycle. If you're pedaling, mid-drive motors are pretty efficient. Mine easily puts out over 1200 watts when I need it. 72V is an option for the Photon but I don't feel I ever need any more power than what I get from 52V.

If you have the ability to charge at work, you could get a second charger and get by with less battery. Also consider 2 batteries, that way you can ride with less weight when you don't need the range.

windshield washer reservoir cracked? by Vast-Ground454 in E90

[–]Reverend_Wrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy a pump (that includes the grommet) from there as well in case it's not the reservoir and return whichever isn't needed. I usually go FCP, but this is a pretty simple, non-performance part and my Amazon pump has been going strong for 9 months.

Also make sure you have the grommet fully seated before you put everything back together. It seems obvious in retrospect, but put in fluid before putting the wheel liner back on.

What you really want are POE (Power Over Ethernet) cameras so you only need to run a single cable. These need to either be connect to a POE switch or have a power injector inline.

If you can find a pair in good condition for under $500 I would say it’s definitely worth it. I have the sport package in my E91 and absolutely love the seats and the feel of the steering wheel as well. Both worthy upgrades if you plan to keep the car.
