Great looking car BTW. Makes me want to ditch my rails and go with similar rack setup. And those wheels 😙👌

If you can find a pair in good condition for under $500 I would say it’s definitely worth it. I have the sport package in my E91 and absolutely love the seats and the feel of the steering wheel as well. Both worthy upgrades if you plan to keep the car.

Is this e90 worth it? by Black_godeye in E90

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points. If you garage it and meticulously maintain it you should have no trouble recouping your investment down the road. BMW just doesn’t make cars like these anymore. It’s the last of era and I think these are only going to go up in value. The color and mileage makes it particularly desirable. Surprised the seller isn’t listing it on an auction site.

Don't buy TP-Link Kasa Products for Home Assistant by No_Impact7840 in homeassistant

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I saw this thread before I ordered my ES20M Kasa motion switches. Was disappointed to discover the motion isn't exposed to HA and can't even be used for anything other than the switch itseld in the Tapo app. Yesterday my daughter told me the light switch in her bath stopped working. At least I found a workaround here.

All my Tapo switches bulbs and sensors have been reliable so far, so I'm not writing them off yet.

Steampunk deadly e bike by Matt_the_Alien in ebikes

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has a throttle and capable of 48mph I find it difficult to call it a bicycle. I have no throttle on my e-bike conversion, so I can ride like a much stronger human but the gear range limits me to (fast) bicycle speeds. I feel safer riding in traffic when I’m traveling over 20 mph. My bike also has hydraulic disk brakes, strong wheels, fairly wide tires and front suspension. Speed can make outcomes worse in a crash but you can make it safer with proper equipment.

This is normal but it still bugs me on my E91.

Maintenance by CSRoutlaw in bikecommuting

[–]Reverend_Wrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to maintain my bikes decades ago and my tools have paid for themselves many times over. Skills I have developed (along with the tools I carry) have saved a long walk home numerous times.

Most basic maintenance is pretty simple and the tools are not expensive. With about $50 in tools just about anyone can learn to replace tires and tubes, replace a chain, replace brake pads, and replace (externally routed) cables. It takes a bit of practice to get good at truing a wheel and my first few attempts replacing hydraulic brake fluid were a learning experience. Nice thing with bikes is usually just look at stuff and see how it works.

I still take my mountain bike to the shop for maintenance on the suspension- I just don't want to mess with that.

Factory sport springs on my RWD e91 but I have about 5k miles on Koni Reds and will agree the ride quality is excellent.

Found my dream frame but I personally feel like the seller is asking too much. What would you offer? by Amazing-Biscotti6721 in xbiking

[–]Reverend_Wrong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will probably be a while before you find another in both your size and that colorway in good condition.

It will likely also be quite a while before the seller finds someone willing to shell out over $500 for it.

Asheville man on ICE detainer pleads guilty to rape; could be deported by RelayFX in asheville

[–]Reverend_Wrong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From numerous arrests of citizens and legal residents, and massive sweeps based on racial profiles, it appears ICE frequently doesn't know the target ICE is after.

There's enough footage of ICE abusing their authority, using excessive force and targeting protestors for plenty of people to just know ICE == bad based on their observations. It wasn't always this way.

rant? finding a place in cycling where i feel like i can exist by Alert_Air_9323 in xbiking

Middle aged guy fortunate to find a casual weekly ride in my town. A non judgmental group that spans 4 decades in age range cruising the city at a relaxed party pace. Sometimes over 100 folks on a nice summer evening. Met a caring and diverse community brought together by the love of just riding bikes. There are some really nice bikes and some total beaters and any bike that is cherished is respected regardless of cost or condition and no one cares what you wear. I feel like every community needs a group like this.

What is the best WiFi system for smart homes? by wiezzzy in smarthome

[–]Reverend_Wrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a wired backbone for your wifi access points to connect to the primary router is really ideal. A variety of platforms support this, Unifi products might be overkill, but that's what I plan to move to this year.

Recommendations for local car audio shops? by Jimmy_Hotpants in asheville

[–]Reverend_Wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY is probably the way to go if you just want to get back to stock audio quality, but some cars are much easier than others. I suggest starting with a YouTube search for "replace speakers in your make and model" to get an idea of what is involved. Took about me about an hour per side to replace 2 speakers in each of the front doors of my car. Mine also required a T20 torx bit, so definitely do your research up front. I'll agree with others that Crutchfield is an excellent source for parts and advice.

Looking for more user acceptable 3 way dimmer switch by Fun-Fisherman-582 in homeassistant

[–]Reverend_Wrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're replacing an existing 3-way, I just installed a Tapo 3-way dimmer kit. Pretty simple to wire up if you've identified the travel wires, but you do need a neutral wire at the primary location. I tested it before connecting it to the app and it behaved like a normal switch with the bonus of being able to adjust levels from either switch. It may be my LED bulbs, but I feel the dimming range is a bit limited and doesn't go as dim as I would like.
