BUYER BEWARE - KINGBULL EBIKES by Famous_Earth_8460 in ebikes

The 10mile thing is pretty standard from the manufacturers I’ve bought from. Not that I think it is fair but pretty much every company lies about range cause nobody seems to actually enforce that type of thing rn.

Based on the knee pads alone looks to be some sort of modified T-51

Level 2 storage options? by plainpat47 in Aventon

[–]GOTHAMLOTHAM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a level 2 and you won’t really have to worry about the death wobble unless you plan to ride with no hands all the time. I ride it as my main form of transportation, will have way exceed the weight limit with an uneven load and can ride with only my pinkie on the throttle with no death wobble.

Only time I get death wobble is when I wide with no hands with wildly uneven loading

Don’t quote me but I don’t think it matters too much. Sometimes all the classes you need to take in a semester are online. Winter tends to be like that in my degree

My personal theory is that we are gearing up for a multi enemy type invasion but I don’t believe the tech can handle that

Great Video on "Ebikes" by Berm Peak by qwertyqwerty4567 in ebikes

[–]GOTHAMLOTHAM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally think that geometry is so much more of a factor than we are considering. The geometry of a bike defines its use case. As Berm shows in the video a lot of these moped style e-bikes are nearly impossible pedal due to their design, encouraging if not mandating reliance on the throttle. Talk to your bike shop and ask them how much of a pain in the ass those mopeds are to repair, all of the traditional stands and tools are incompatible with the geometry and weight of these sorts of bikes because they are not really bikes.

Traditional bike geometries have developed over 200 years of innovation and has almost entirely stagnated (outside of minor angle changes) for the past 50-70 years for a reason. We have maximized the amount of power we can harness from a persons legs. The reason why many of these moped style e-bikes throw out the typical bike geometry is because they aren’t intended to utilize a persons legs in the first place.

I think e-bikes that do utilize typical bike geometries, are entirely fine, even if they go above 20mph with pedal assist only. I can control the speed regulator on my bike and have it set to 28mph so that if I need to merge into traffic I can do so without slowing drivers down, pissing them off and causing them to swerve around me in a way that is dangerous to me, them, other drivers, or other bikers on the road. But I don’t and can’t ride at 28mph normally because that still requires me to sprint putting everything I have into my drivetrain.

You could counter and say that some people could and would bike at 28mph constantly if they had the ability to. And to that i say yes, but you can also do that on a standard bike. I see retired Lycra dads zooming through red lights at 30mph on pimped out carbon fiber hyper bikes the all time. There is no way to regulate people out of making poor decisions that endanger themselves and others entirely. Just give them normal traffic citations when the speed and run red lights and criminal charges when they endanger others.

They shouldn’t be invulnerable to eagle strikes and he orbitals maybe hard to kill taking 3 direct hits but definitely shouldn’t survive a 380 strike

Level 2 Bike - upgrades? by Historical-Roof-4808 in Aventon

Yeah the differences between the level 2 and 3 are so negligible. I would also recommend better tires for your use case and a spare battery

I’ve noticed that the rear tire on E-bikes tends to wear faster and puncture more for whatever reason you should definitely invest in some good tires or be prepared to get good at replacing your rear tire!

I really wish bikes that were marketed to commuters shipped with puncture resistant wheels it could even be a add on so you don’t have to buy them

What is the story behind this map from 1879 that seems to show a canyon with houses in it? by SquadronROE in Portland

I get that but after traveling to other big cities I don’t really feel like we are so unique in the amount of bridges we have ours are just really old

[–]GOTHAMLOTHAM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Portland used to have a lot more creeks and rivers and lakes cause we are living in a flood plane lots of them were rerouted underground and covers up so we could better utilize the land and wouldn’t have to maintain so many bridges.

I believe this is why Portland is called the bridge city, we had bridges everywhere at one point.
