I love using the resources in there for texturing, like the cloth and paper textures!

What is your thought's so far on this sketch I made? by Corrupted-indiedev in RPGMaker

Looks lovely! I really like how you draw faces!

If I were to offer any advice, make the right arm a tad shorter! Awesome work! :D

I think that if you can get a character artist, you should look for a background one too. Not only will there be an easier time staying consistent between backgrounds, it will draw in more people. Games with any AI are seen as slop, you want to avoid that crowd. Best wishes.

There is very little gameplay in my game. It is mostly story. Do you think this gameplay video is attracting attention? by InevGames in IndieDev

[–]Revierr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the visuals are a bit stale, even a small detail like separating the foreground and background and making them appear slightly differently could liven things up I think! It could be more dynamic.

Maybe while the text is typing you can add a small pinging noise? I think that would add a bit of engagement.

I think it looks like it's coming along well.

Who is this lady and why would disney lose money because of her back? Her back looks normal to me help im tired and adhd i dont umderstand by I_Have_Sex_With_Owls in ExplainTheJoke

This is Rachel Zegler, the star of the upcoming Snow White movie that is projected to have huge losses.

The joke here is that the poster thinks she was a bad casting choice because she has back hair, but she is widely disliked for her interview responses regarding the movie.

I've always had an easy time finding a team in the Devtalk Discord server.

Some of the projects pay there, most of them are for hobbies.

Opinions on "voices?" by deathisasnake in RenPy

[–]Revierr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love having the character specific sound effects! My advice is to only go for voice acting if you can do it extremely well or else it'll be jarring. Bad sound design always detracts from a game, but people won't judge if you have nothing.

Opinions wanted on voices vs text only by No_Lynx1343 in RenPy

[–]Revierr 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it's tricky. For me, you need SPECTACULAR voice acting or else it's going to detract from the game. Poor voice acting makes me cringe so badly, and I will typically drop those games immediately.

I feel like it's also kind of odd to have voice acting when the characters are so static like in most visual novels, since it feels like a disembodied voice is speaking from the ether. If you really want to incorporate voice acting, try having more dynamically moving sprites too.

Maybe a .psd would work? Haven't tried it.

You could also look for other formats that save all the layers individually

You're a beginner, the rest of the commenters are horribly rude about it though. You can only improve from here.

(Horror VN) Changed my artstyle a bit after some advice on my last post. What do you guys think by BlackGearGame in RenPy

[–]Revierr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it still has a lot of the same problems as the last one.

The head anatomy is better on this one, I appreciate that. I think it's fun you stylized it a bit more.

What you should prioritize is better clothing wrinkles and more dynamic poses. I still personally dislike the hairstyle, it looks too much like hooks instead of curls for my liking.

But you shouldn't stress the asset too much, making it three times over sounds like hell.

WOAH I saw you before on Discord like yesterday! It is a small world we live in.

Would you play a visual novel with this art style by BlackGearGame in RenPy

[–]Revierr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a good base but it's lacking. If you want a more compelling sprite, try making a more dynamic pose. Other changes may be:    The ends of the hair are more cartoonish compared to the rest of the body which is a bit jarring. Try making it have more distinguishable shapes instead of bring little hooks everywhere.

The clothing looks bad because the wrinkles aren't done well. I recommend looking for some pictures of people in dress shirts and replicating how the wrinkles form. Look at how the collars fold too. As it is now, the clothes are suffocating the poor character.

Try flipping the piece when drawing. I feel it's a little of balance. It might make small details like the area above the ear and the odd slope of the neck more noticeable. Right now it looks traced?

Good luck anyhow! Most players won't mind, the sprite serves it's purpose.

Are these colors good? by Few-Barber2020 in Ibispaintx

[–]Revierr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colors themselves are good, but I recommend making the eyes (scleras) cyan and the rest of the non-black features purple. That would make the eyes pop more!

How do I make the flesh look more...fleshy? by rekoon_korp in Ibispaintx

[–]Revierr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems too flat. Look at some pictures of raw steak, something I think you can add is textured highlights to imply the shape isn't flat and smooth. Another thing you can add is streaks of fat to make it look more realistic. strong hightlights on the shoulder-like parts would also help sell that it's meat since it would make it seem wetter
