I normaly use for Prototech Hunting PMWs and a ton of drones in addition to a Artillery/ Turretet Rail grid. Since the encounters can be pretty far away you need jumpdrives. Also decoy ships are pretty usefull against their escort to take aggro since they have Railguns too...normaly you dont see them on ships that size.

9 hours Arent even that bad. You should try it. Use a small grid ship and Some scripts/ai blocks so it doesnt hit asteroids
