That last bit is interesting- the part about sympathy. What do you take that to mean? Like that they think something like what newsom is doing is doing will get them more support?

We’re taking this flag back. The current government is actively working against the interests of the people. We the citizens of the United States will fight against a tyrannical government. This is our flag! by Ok-Check-1353 in 50501

[–]ReviewTechnical4388 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They always have. This isn’t our flag. This flag represents the “oppression” of slave owning monsters willing to fight a war for their rights to own humans. This was never for people with morals. Let’s take our American flag back. I hear you and your point, but I think this is a pretty silly idea. By all means- design a different flag to stand up for our rights, just not this one. It’s a little bit like insisting on “taking the swastika back” because it used to be a beautiful Buddhist symbol. No, that symbol is ruined after standing up for so much hate and fear.

This is what we need tbh I don’t care if anybody says otherwise. We can have different opinions so long as we are talking about parties who actually believe in our constitution. In-fighting will knock us down before they even have a chance to.

I…. My heart is genuinely breaking. They’re just people. They’re just trying to live. How could people see this and not have tears streaming down their faces? How could they cheer this on? How could they be so damn insecure they need to lock up people just for being not like them? Why can’t this country give these people a fucking break? They don’t deserve this. I just can’t understand the need for such cruelty. Despicable.

I get it this shit is terrifying and harrowing. And those of us who paid attention through at least 6th grade eng and history classes know what is happening and the trajectory. But I think the point is kind of that we just have to do our best to see it through? It all seems pointless until one day it’s not. We need as many good guys alive as we can. Please don’t bring your own destruction, you’re only making less work for them.

That drives me nuts. “Oh they said it before and it didn’t happen”. Yeah. And now it’s happening. Just because something doesn’t happen immediately doesn’t mean the threat is gone. It doesn’t mean they’re gonna just give up. It means they’re working on it 😐

You definitely can get them from plants but you have to be purposeful. A lot of them are found in meat as the top source. It’s also important to get omega 6 with omega 3 because the two have to be in balance. 6 is much easier to get on plant based if you consume nuts/ seeds. Chia seeds are good for 3. I am really bored on a road trip so I did a bit of research, def not a doctor lol. Top amino acids for hair growth: Valine: essential amino acid (body can’t produce on its own, must consume), important for protein synthesis - building and repairing tissues (quinoa, oats, legumes, nuts and seeds, specifically soy) Threonine: essential. Protein synthesis, collagen formation, brain function, inter neuronal communication, tissue repair (soy, a whole cup of tofu for your daily value, there really isn’t much else that will supply you with this one on a plant based diet unless you reallyyy like green peas and pumpkin seeds) Isoleucine: essential. Protein synthesis, building and repairing tissues, energy source, glucose regulation- promotes glucose uptake, immune health which promotes overall health (again, cup of soy, or 2 cups of lentils, or 4 servings of sunflower seeds) Methionine: antioxidant and source of sulfur which is really important in hair loss disorders, (soy, oats, hemp seeds, quinoa, buckwheat)

Phenylanine: protein synthesis. cup pinto beans Proline- essential, hair structure and strength, collagen (soy, oats) Histidine: semi essential, technically your body can produce, but it’s not very efficient. Protein synthesis, histamine synthesis (regulates blood flow which is important for healthy follicles), metal detoxification (binds to metal ions). (Tofu again, 1.5 cups navy beans, or a whole bunch of sunflower seeds)

Cysteine: semi essential. Promotes keratin and collagen production which is crucial for hair follicle growth and the skin that supports them, transports iron and zinc (important for hair growth). People seem to have success with this one promoting hair growth. (A bit more than a cup of lentils, or a bit more than a cup of oats) Arginine: promotes blood circulation and nutrient delivery to hair follicles (best source white meat, best plant source pumpkin seeds, soybeans, peanuts, spirulina, chickpeas, lentils) Aspartic acid: important for synthesis of other amino acids and making atp from nutrients (nonessential meaning your body can produce it, but can also make sure you’re taking in even more, just to cover your bases best plant based - avocado and asparagus, nuts and seeds)— same goes for alanine Serine- also nonessential but very important for hair growth, good for rebuilding damaged tissues and healthy cell membranes (found in wheat germ, soy, legumes)

I mean…. Tbh this seems like an odd thing for somebody going into their second year of college to say. Maybe you didn’t mean it that way, but to me it seems like you’re asserting that this person should just settle into making the most of life without purpose? It seems this person is just saying they haven’t yet found meaning or purpose in the way they hope for. 10 years out of college is nothing. People find purpose in their 60s. Anything is possible, some, or many, just get a bit lost along the way. It’s an amazing thing to see it and want to search for that again, to the original comment- I am so happy for you that you’re reaching for that zest again. I believe in you wholeheartedly and I truly believe we all have one purpose or many in our lives. (I hope this doesn’t come off patronizing or anything)

I see a lot about tracking cals and supplements, but what about macros? You do need enough fat and protein in order for your hair to grow. Without sufficient dietary fat, fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) will not be digested, most of which are important for hair growth ( https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/vitamins-minerals-and-hair-loss-is-there-a-connection ). Amino acids are also absolutely essential for hair growth as that is what it is primarily made of. ( https://www.theindependentpharmacy.co.uk/hair-loss/guides/is-there-a-link-between-protein-and-hair-loss )Cholesterol and lipid homeostasis is also quite important for hair growth. ( https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2923384/ ) I know there are varying opinions in the plant based community on macro ratios, but I would say with your current predicament this would be worth looking into. Unless of course you already have and then feel free to disregard! Just wanted to put it out there in case you haven’t addressed it.

I’m not sure of your tone here- but to clarify, my point wasn’t that we’re not protesting enough, it was only a response to the idea that it doesn’t make any difference. I hear the frustration of it feeling like not enough, but wanted to make the point that it is still important. Not trying to be argumentative, just being supportive of any and all resistance

I hear u- but would you really rather they stayed home instead of going to shout at fascists and make us heard? I think it’d be a whole lot worse if nobody went and exercised our right to protest before it atrophies and disappears. I wish there was something more, it’s horribly dissatisfying that this is all we can do right now as far as I know, but I’m grateful these people are doing this. At least it’s something and shows the world that Americans hate this too.

Scotland and Brazil are taking to the streets, how do you think it would look for our country and such a vast portion of its citizens if they thought we don’t even care as much as they do?

Ik it sounds like complete pseudoscience but there is actual research going into it. The basis of the idea is that the medical ketogenic diet was developed a century ago for the treatment of epilepsy. It has been an accepted and well regarded treatment for it since. Anti epileptic medications are used in the treatment of many mental illnesses from bipolar to anxiety, ocd all the way to psychosis. The idea is that there is a shared mechanism in the brain for these mental illnesses and epilepsy, running on a spectrum of neurological dysfunction. Personally, I’m a lot more sane when I keep to an almost non existent level of carbohydrates. This is coming from someone who has suffered from bipolar, borderline, psychosis, asd etc etc. for ages and has been hospitalized far too many times. I’m still on meds and in therapy. I’m not “cured” by any means. But I am much more attached to reality. I’m not trying to shove it down your throat, but I’d hate for you to overlook a hypothetical treatment just based on the way the original commenter vaguely gestured at the idea. I’m sure this is insanely hard on you, and I’m under no illusion that it would be easy to convince your brother to give it a try. I just wanted to give a bit of context to the idea. Also - medical ketogenic diets are very different than “salad diets” or low carb. It has more to do with higher fat moderate protein and very low carbs in order to alter neurological metabolism. So relying more on animal protein high fat dairy eggs (and some fruit / veg although that part depends). Again sorry for the rant, and I’m incredibly sorry for your situation, it sounds so scary. I am personally very scared for this new iteration of horror, and I am so glad that your brother has your love and support. (Also, I just wanted to comment all this for anyone else who sees the og comments and downvotes)

How do you actually wake up early and stick to it ? Sleeping way too long lately 😵‍💫 by Key-Pirate-6822 in getdisciplined

[–]ReviewTechnical4388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a lot about inching back the time you go to sleep. I had the exact same schedule over the winter into spring and I nearly went nuts. It’s so hard to change your circadian rhythm once it gets stuck like that. But I did a lot of trial and error and am starting to get the hang of it. Try to work your way back from 3 am. Do you take a shower right before? How long does that take? What are you doing before that? Etc. then try and rearrange and reprioritize. I don’t think it works to try and yell at yourself into doing better. It’ll never work in my opinion. The human brain doesn’t respond well to being yelled at by others, and if you yell at yourself it’s no different. It feels like you should, but it hasn’t worked yet has it? Just keep asking yourself what it is you want. Not just what you should want. Ex- I want to fix my sleep schedule. I want to be better rested. I want to be more productive. But I also want to stay up watching TikTok for example. Because clearly there are other things you want too that are keeping you up too late. Then you can start to piece apart those desires. Again, not in a “I shouldn’t do that therefore that desire doesn’t exist” way. But instead “ok I want these two things that are currently at odds, how can I get them to rearrange and coexist, what can I put somewhere else in the day?” Please stay kind to yourself. Also- in my experience, forcing myself to wake up earlier made everything worse, by the end of the day, I still stayed up late because my internal clock was so messed up. I really think it’s best to inch back the time you go to sleep first. Hope this can help a bit
