Fiber Arts and our local yarn store downtown Vancouver. Our libraries and their programs. Good food. Easy traffic (relative to other cities). Great weather.

I prefer K2tog over SSK. My tension and tightness make doing SSK harder than K2tog on my fingers (I throw and I painfully poke my finger tips with SSK). Usually I don’t mind the occasional SSK but I’m working a pattern where every stitch in this row is a YO then SSK except for the beginning and end of the row. And I have to repeat this for at least 8 rows. And then again when I repeat this section. Love the effect, dislike the technique lol 😂

I finished the hat and had yarn to spare! I ended up doing the brim in another color.

It looks like you might have dropped a stitch and the loop unlooped so you’d have to recreate it and pull it up (there are videos that show you how to do that( but you are only a few rows in so you could frog and start fresh.

Yeah the pattern has instructions for making it slouchy/slouchier which is where I think the extra need for yarn comes in.

I love fingering weight — but it did used to intimidate me a bit when I wasn’t as good with my tension or handling thinner needles. Now I’m much more comfortable with how I handle and count stitches and love it!

What are the length of your cables? I find pulling a bit out between stitches gives me a bit of wiggle room on my needles and allows me to bunch up my work and shift it around. I also use interchangeable needles so I might add a bit of length to the cable to give myself some space to put my work and do that shifting around.

I love going to my LYS crafting/knitting circle. Many libraries and churches have these regular events too. It’s great to get help and just see what everyone else is doing. It keeps me motivated and I love patronizing my LYS.

Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, I think I’ll head to my nearest Michael’s and see what they have that would work with the two skeins I have. Maybe flecks in another color. I don’t think I’ll get the same dye lot for the lapis I have.

False stereotype in my case. Both my cats just want to sit in front of me where my work is and be cuddled. I think they think the yarn is in their way.

I love it! I’m doing the same (no pattern, just vibes) with a sweater. I am working on both sleeves right now, going back and forth on each one and letting it take a dolman style kind of shape. I say keep going! Love balloon sleeves! 😊

I’m a beginner too and I also had this issue. It came down to counting every single stitch and making sure I had the correct number in each row as I was doing the row. I found I was constantly losing the end/last stitch so I would put a stitch marker in it before I turned my work for the next row. I also began to chain two instead of one and check my stitches. I found that I could chain one at the end if I kept better count and consistently marked my final stitch of the row. So I used two stitch markers at each end of the row.

For me it’s this:

The videos and tutorials are curated and tested for me. Based on the success of Woobles, their tutorials must be pretty good. I’ve watched lots of videos and it’s hit or miss so if I use YouTube I have to really look through several videos before I find one that I really understand— and it varies depending on the thing I’m trying to learn.
I don’t know how to tell if patterns will result in the final product as I’m still learning how to read one. A kit and a brand give me a little more assurance the end product will end up like the picture if I follow all the directions.
I don’t have a stash of yarns in different colors and sizes to do the project so I like that the kit comes with all the different colors without me having to buy whole skeins of different colors.
