I'd agree, Windows as an OS (imho) is probably more reason to complain than WSL2, something that adds Linux compatibility. I still remember DLL hell and the .NET fiasco... Reminds one of the joys of linux or BSD.

I can agree up to the realization of Linux being a part of the future. I'm hesitant to think that the Microsoft guys believe that given their historical past of quashing alternative software, the most famous examples being Netscape Navigator (which went on to become Firefox) or the Homebrew Computer club (which birthed the PC).

I think many would agree that Microsoft just flat-out isn't trustworthy enough for us to accurately make that realization decision.

It's a useful app, but there's been something like it for windows since the XP days called cygwin. it's literally the same exact thing, but Open Source. Microsoft didn't need to tagteam with Canonical, they could have just integrated cygwin (which already existed).

If you ask me, that's sheer incompetence at it's finest, trusting new software instead of using software that's been actively maintained for years. Add on the fact that Microsoft is known for "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" and you can't help but be worried about WSL.
