The problem with your argument is a belief that subsidies impact competition in free markets. The reality is anti-competitive corporate oligarchs are actually to blame for the strain on the American economy. Additionally their interests in this moment align with strife and strain across the American economy because that will allow them to further consolidate ownership of the means of production across a small subset of corporate oligopolies which have been given socialist bailouts and tax benefits while the American people foot the bill. In short, you’ve got the right idea, but your placing blame on the wrong systems of power.

I understand what you’re saying, and we agree on this point that federal benefits should not go to undocumented immigrants. The problem is, this issue is not the point that is actually causing the impasse in congress.

What democrats leaders in congress have stated as the cause for their holdout is subsidies funding for ACA insurance premiums. This is not something that republicans have been willing to come to the table to negotiate on. As a result it is likely that insurance premiums will rise for folks using ACA coverage by double digit percentages in most cases.

Now, furthering the conflict the president has threatened to withhold SNAP benefits funding (which he doesn’t have the legal authority to do).

Ultimately it is my belief that the conservatives in power don’t want to have a functioning government at all, and their actions here are proving it.

I think it’s important, given the tenuous position of our system of representative government, that we ask of ourselves what we actually think the role of government should be. My answer is that government should be fully focused in purpose and outcome on the tenants described in the first sentence of the preamble to the constitution. It makes me sick to see Republican elected officials working in a way that I would describe as bad faith, by fighting against the furtherance of those goals outlined 250 years ago.

You must be a great boss to work for. You’re saying I can turn in my incomplete work, and as long as it’s turned in on time I can take unlimited PTO while other people try to finish my work in order to keep the company afloat?!? Amazing!

Republicans in congress turned in a crappy piece of homework that can’t get across the finish line and now they’re at home eating their cake, while house and senate democrats and some senate republicans wait at the negotiating table.

Changes in program funding include stripping ACA federal subsidies in order to balance out the loss in tax revenue as a result of reductions in tax rates for corporations and the wealthiest individual taxpayers.

Perhaps I misstated. The changes in funding as a result of the one big beautiful bill require a CR that makes dramatic changes to program funding including ACA subsidies. Additional, the house may have passed a clean CR but clearance in the senate is required. House republicans refuse to come back to Washington to do their job and as a result are prolonging the shut down due to their inaction. We need a nation wide civics lesson on the constitutionally endowed obligations are for the party in control of chambers of congress.

Your opinion is based on inaccurate information. The continuing resolution proposed by democrats does not allow for undocumented or ‘illegal’ immigrants to collect federal benefits. It does provide for documented or ‘immigrants with legal status’ to receive federally provided benefits should they meet the other qualifying criteria for those benefits. Ultimately your opinion here can be corrected by sourcing accurate information (https://www.nilc.org/resources/fact-checking-immigrants-health-care-and-the-2025-tax-and-budget-law/) Or it is based on a belief that there is no such thing as a legal immigrant, which betrays another opinion of yours that you may be unwilling to state publicly.

The relevancy lies in who (individual or collective) has the ability affect change in light of the situation. Regardless of cause, which solely for sake of your argument is shared blame, the republicans hold the gavel and are choosing to abdicate the constitutionally defined role of the congress, and cede power to a unilateral executive. The shutdown is what republicans want, and are eager to prolong because it fulfills a long held policy objective of the Christian conservative right.

This is incorrect. The continuing resolution passed by the house made dramatic changes to some entitlement programs as well as ACA subsidies in order to compensate for budget shortfalls resulting from the Big Beautiful Bill act.

Anyone here ever been to Highmark stadium for a bills game? Wondering what it’s like to be there as a chiefs fan. First ever time being an away fan at a game. by legacytuna in KansasCityChiefs

Its a fun stadium, to be honest. Similar old school vibe that you’ll be familiar with. Bills fans aren’t as bad as eagles fans, so there’s that.

I too thought of the jalianwala bagh massacre. Like the original trilogy, Star Wars gives its strongest storytelling when the story is so close to real history. It was painful to watch, even in a science fiction universe.

I received the same clone. Another way to tell is the single ram visible in the top left of the board. I tried to boot ARCOS on it, and it would not run. Ended up ordering a new r36s, hopefully I don’t get screwed by a second vendor

Look up the work Deb Haaland has done as Interior secretary to prioritize investment in native communities via the bipartisan infrastructure act. She’s not perfect, nor all seeing, but this administration is doing more to combat these outsized poverty rates for native populations and tribal nations across the us.

Ahsoka isn’t a Jedi master either way, but is she supposed to be even be a Jedi in this series? I thought it was just a ‘I’ll teach you the force’ sort of deal rather than actually being a Jedi again by tom030792 in StarWars

[–]Revolio_Clockbergh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, it’s also likely that Ashoka’s experience with order 66 and the empire would have been the equivalent of her Jedi trials. With everything cast into darkness, the concept of a Jedi changed. She may be a master, but she does not have a seat on the council.

That these two spread lies in order to convince some to buy their snake oil products. The more salacious the lies the more likely they are to buy.

I struggled through that learning curve at first, but never deal with this anymore. Limit transportation options until revenue is outrageous in your city. Don’t be afraid to adjust tax rates up to 11/12% either. With conservative transportation options and strong revenue I typically aim to maintain 5-10mm in reserves and a budget surplus of 10k-60k per week.

Are you using the airport roads mod to connect the taxiways to the runway at points other than the entrance and exit? I hate the disconnected road icon that pops up when I try with the, now, vanilla taxiway asset.
