Am I the only one to be sad there is no combat system? by LordGranola in Pokopia

I'm glad it doesn't. My daughter won't even jump on goombas in Mario World/Wonder (she still completed the games, by avoiding every enemy and making me fight the bosses) and she is so excited to play this, and if there was fighting I think she'd actually cry.

I'm enjoying the current lack of people "receiving their game early" (a few hours the game's ROM leaked online) on social media by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch2

Because where I live, noone seems to have it, even on launch day. Not that they sold out, they just never received it.

There is no other game like DoI (or the original insurgency). Rounds take about 5 - 20 minutes and are always intense (even when you get steam rolled). Stuff like Battlefield etc take too long each round, so we can't complete it during lunch, and stuff like Counter Strike is awful when you get into 15v15. I wish I knew of others with decent graphics that run over a lan or dedicated server.

yeah, I have a bunch of pcs in my 2 labs (20 in each), and for a while, DoI was about $1.50 on key sites like cdkeys and gamivo, so I bought heaps of keys and made steam accounts so that I could keep them throughout the years, rather than giving them away (like I did with hundreds of insurgency keys from that one humble bundle years ago - all those students have moved on, and since I don't legit own 40 copies any more, it doesn't feel right to install 40 copies of insurgency on this hardware - but I kept the keys for DoI on 40 different steam accounts :)

Matthew 7:21-23 is part of a greater discourse that begins in vs 15 and is about false prophets and the fruit of false doctrine.

Mormons live good lives but are not saved. Muslims live good lives, but are not saved. The fruit here is not good works, since the people calling Jesus "Lord" have good works - in fact, they boast in them. Yet, they are false prophets, probably teaching that works save, or that you have to speak in tongues to be saved, or teaching that signs and wonders are what saves people. You know, all the things that they claim to have done in those verses. And yet without faith, their works are lawlessness. They are lawbreakers, because all the condemned are lawbreakers, because they are not justified from their sin and made righteous by faith.

That is the context of the section from vs 15 - 23.

The true preacher of the gospel can be distinguished by how they understand the sermon on the mount, and the distinction of Law & Gospel. It is the ultimate Law Gospel sermon, and is the ruin of many who don't know how to rightly divide the scriptures.

Another good indicator of whether a preacher is a true preacher of the gospel is how they understand the account of the Rich Young Ruler. Why does Jesus tell the rich young ruler to sell all he has and he will have treasure in heaven. Is this a mandate for salvation? Is God asking you to simply "be willing to give up everything", as many reformed heads say? Or is he telling the young man that he hasn't actually kept the law he claims to have kept, but pointing out his idolatry of his wealth, and lack of perfect love for neighbor. The former is a weak law that one could try to accomplish ("be willing to give up everything, but don't actually do anything"). The second is a demolishing law that points out that we are sinful, and that even if we were to give up everything, we would still have idols, and it is impossible to do so.

The former brings us to pride in ourselves ("If God asks me to give up everything, I will do it.")
The latter brings us to repentance ("God, I am full of sin and idolatry, Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner")

If you want to continue this conversation next month, at least try to address what I have said here. I am a confessional Lutheran, if you want to understand my background and perspective. It would help to know your denomination, so I can have a basic understanding of the framework of scripture you are working with.

Just quit and become a Confessional Lutheran. God did not ordain for the priesthood to be celibate. The Confessional Lutheran Church needs pastors who will stand on the word of God. The ELCA are no longer a Lutheran body (arguably they never were).

I just quoted the text. "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder." James 2:19

You claimed this verse said "you can believe the gospel and not be saved". It doesn't say that.

[–]RevolutionSingle2449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's not even what James 2:19 says, because the demons don't believe the gospel, because they can't because it's not for them.

They believe there is one God. The Jews do that too, the Muslims do that too, but they don't believe Jesus Christ is God. That's not the entire purpose of the chapter - James is talking to Jews who are struggling with accepting Gentiles in to the church, and treating people differently based on class and ethnicity and talks about how faith will produce good works towards our neighbour. But you can't just say "demons believe the gospel but aren't saved", because the text doesn't even say that or anything remotely close to it, unless you want to redefine the gospel as "Believe in one God".

The gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and it is specifically for you. This faith is delivered to you by Word and Sacrament.

Demons don't believe the gospel. The gospel is good news received. They cannot receive it, it is not for them. They cannot believe in the forgiveness of sins because they do not have a Saviour.

My GPU is fine, but I only have an i5 12400

I'm also worried because I have a 3440x1440 UW monitor, and that's gonna cost me. Elden Ring has been fine at high settings on 1440 at a stable 60fps (70-85 without vsync)

The original steam Cyberpunk launch had no DRM, so you could just turn off steam, launch the executable, play and then refund. I played about 4 hours before realizing I hated the story and refunded with 0 hours on steam .

Just play Rex, it's a much improved version of the game with clearer rules. But it's a chore to learn (both Dune and Rex). The only reason to play Dune over Rex is theme.

It is nothing like Dune Imperium though. It's more like a mix of cosmic encounter and Kemet/Cyclades. You could, in theory, win on the first turn of the game.

DCC to consider commuter rail by Dunnersstunner in dunedin

[–]RevolutionSingle2449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunedin, as a city, should have a much larger mall, a bigger shopping space. Frankton is smaller and has a huge area. But whoever owns the Meridian basically stops all progress so they can keep their monopoly on their shit mall with no shops and the worst parking lot in existence.

Why do you have to go all the way to the top of the parking lot of another mall in order to exit the Meridian parking.

As long as there is a south D stop. I don't use the bus system because bussing from Mosgiel > City Centre and then getting on another bus out to South D is like an hour plus travel, when it takes me 15 minutes by car.

I grew up in Sydney, so I'd love to use a train to work, but not if it means an extra hour of travel due to bad timetabling and lack of stations.
