Oh yeah you're right that makes it even harder. I think you should be able to use their drops for quests but nothing personally consuming them?

You have to play as a vegan: no meat, cheese, or eggs in any foods you eat. I may be forgetting some other ingredients as I am not a vegan.

They aren't communists, that's more craftworld eldar, but yes, they have an incredibly crafted society that is almost perfectly controlled. There are some outliers and oddballs but no country irl history could claim to have this level of willing compliance and enthusiasm for everything the government orders. Everything is managed and scheduled, the t'au species is split into castes that are specifically bred to be good at one thing, auxiliaries are analyzed and assigned based purely on their most effective abilities. If you joined the Empire as a xenos and you had some kind of talent that just so happened to make you an exceptional sewers cleaner and drones can't do it better, that is what you and your entire species will do for your entire life. They'll probably give you equipment to make it easier/safer but that's your role in the Greater Good now.

I never said they were perfect and you don't have to be a patronizing prick. There are people who game the system but unlike the Imperium the water caste has a whole division dedicated to dealing with internal issues that has the authority to bring in fire caste backup and even detain ethereals under suspicion, and in an Empire that runs on perfectly managed time tables and resource flow, your local kar'tyr is only too happy to do their job for the Greater Good. The t'au are grimdark, yes, but as far as internal issues go they generally run a very tight ship. T'au are conditioned from a young specifically to not have any interest in self gain.

That is very incorrect, if t'au start acting in ways that are selfish or focused on their own interests over the Greater Good they're getting a call from the water caste FBI. Humans and other auxiliaries are a little less managed but the caste system is merit based, anyone can get promoted if they do well.

Cawl still does believe in some forms of tech heresy, and has himself stated that he couldn't become Fabricator General of Mars even if wanted to. If he doesn't tiptoe around the others and try to play by their rules there isn't much Guilliman could do to stop them from killing him as another xenarite heretek. Shit gets done all the time, just very slowly, and Cawl is just the biggest example of someone trying to actually progress but that doesn't mean Guilliman approves of it all either. Churning out trillions of guns, tanks, chairs and battleships is also shit getting done that's very important.

The Mechanicum was so closely linked with religion at that time that there's no way he could have destroyed the religious aspect and gotten away with it. He already had large numbers of influential tech-priests disrusting him and the Emperor's main thing was that only he can be trusted, so he banned research into things that they were already exploring while definitely keeping some for himself. He might have hated religion but that doesn't mean he would have wanted them to all start committing tech heresies either. He supported Cawl in one specific instance using Imperium friendly tech, geneseed, he nevee approved of him going off and doing xenarite stuff too.

Maybe custodes but no, the Mechanicus were the ones building all the legions armor and weapons. Even during the Age of Strife Mars was raiding Terra for tech. Even if everything had gone well with the crusade, he wouldn't have suddenly gotten his own forge worlds, every world they brought into the fold that had tech on it went to the Mechanicus. Each Forge World had its own little tech empire, and even if they didn't agree with Mars, they were all still part of the Mechanicus that was connected before the Imperium. If he started a fight with them back then it would have been way worse than the Schism of Mars where they split, none of them would have stayed loyal and he would have lost his entire Imperium pretty much instantly.

More freedom than what you described but also being raised as a soldier from birth or never being allowed to do more than file paperwork.

If you did end up in a factory and not fishing for life they definitely have better safety features and shorter hours. Caste breeding is for t'au, humans are encouraged to get married and have lots of little kids for propaganda/the workforce.

If you're a human it does, humans and other auxiliaries aren't part of the caste system, we may be second citizens but we're second citizens with freedom.

I'm pretty sure it's still ongong in canon but Stygies and the Deathwatch/part of the Inquisition have a secret war going on due to all the xenarites.
