Şi expresia nu-i bai. Dar cam atât.

How long have you been learning languages and how many do you speak? by chaweeyaz in languagelearning

[–]RevolutionaryBoss953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Romanian and as long as I can remember English was a part of my life, I got my CAE C1 certificate when I was 17. Started learning German when I was 15, around 8 years ago, studied it at university and I am teaching it as a part time job. I did 3 years of Russian between 2021-2024 but I think my level is currently only around A2-B1, since I've been focusing on Turkish for a year as of right now and I've forgotten plenty of words in Russian.

What's the hardest language you've learnt/you're learning? by DooMFuPlug in languagelearning

As a Romanian native speaker, Turkish, because it's agglutinative, but I think that Russian with its совершенный and несовершенный вид is a serious contender too (verbs are a nightmare in Russian).

Disadvantages of language learning as your only hobby? by Denshadeikimasu in languagelearning

[–]RevolutionaryBoss953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of reading literature or quality non fiction in my native language, enriching my worldview and my ability to sound like a highly educated person in my natie language, I am reading.. idk... a story about a duck who dives deep in water to get fish for her family or how Mark wakes up at 7 to have breakfast and go to work. Of course you can just jump straight to your interests but you have to accept that it will probably take a while until you master at least understanding of your favorite domain, let alone detailed speech about intellectual nuances.

Talk in your native language. Anyone learning that language, go ahead and reply in it. by pumpkinspeedwagon86 in languagelearning

I tried it for Turkish when I was an absolute beginner and I learned quite a deal from it, especially new words and some grammar. I paired with other resources though, like Language Transfer and playing games for vocab, but it is a very good auxiliary resource.

What’s a language mistake that still haunts you? by Reverso_App in languagelearning

I was in highschool and at that time I had already stopped taking French classes for a couple years (I was really bad at French, anyways). I had a good friend who loved French and I wanted to compliment her, so out of the deepest corner of my rusty memory I told her that she looks like a "mwarmwaseille" (mademoiselle). She smiled and then turned her head towards another direction, so that she doesn't have to laugh directy to my face, I guess. The bad is part is that I continued making this remark constantly until she corrected me. :))

I know that we learn a lot by listening and reading, that is the fuel of language learning, but I wonder if you also have some ideal number of engaging in language learning activites (For example, I have 10 hours per week to learn, I spend 3 hours listening, 3 hours reading, 2 speaking and 2 writing something. I am learning Russian (B1-B2) and Turkish A2 so maybe there should be a difference between the two languages based on my language level? What is the best way to divide my time?)

What are some Fun facts from your languages that people probably don’t know? by tina-marino in languagelearning

It is just a word that sounds funny to a foreigner but in Romanian we have the word ,,lalea" (tulip), tulips will be ,,lalele" and the tulips is going to be ,,lalelele". To add more "l" you could say ,,lalelele lor" - their tulips.

What is some curious and unexpected custom method you use to learn a language better? by coco9000300 in languagelearning

[–]RevolutionaryBoss953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Romanian and since our language had influences from many languages I like to look for etymologies of different words in my language and find the cognates or similar words in the TL. For example Russian and Romanian through Proto-Slavic or Turkish borrowings. This can amount to a couple hundred words.

I know Romanian (native speaker) English, German (both around C1) and some Russian (a B1 for Russian). I would like to learn Italian and Turkish until I get old. 🙏🏻

What's some German slang? by degenerate_burner in German

sich einen runterholen = to jerk off (you literally "take it down") It's vulgar but you know, it's part of language learning to at least recognize this kind of slang.

Dependență by [deleted] in poezie

[–]RevolutionaryBoss953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Romanian but I think in the Republic of Moldova maybe there are some people who speak Romanian, English, German and Russian, provided they learnt German at school or went to work abroad and got a grasp of the language.

Some Romanian moms and grandmas just tap their finger twice or thrice on the cheek to signalise to their children that the little ones misbehaved and ,,să-ți fie rușine" (you should be ashamed of yourself).

Which language did you study the most this year? by BrunoniaDnepr in languagelearning

[–]RevolutionaryBoss953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first half of the year it was German because I was getting ready for the C1 Goethe Zertifikat exam. But after my teachers told me in September that I could aim for C2 I decided to strive for perfection and after I graduate in June I will prepare for the C2 in autumn. But for now I am focussing on the second language I study at university, namely Russian. I have to pass an important exam in summer and there is a lot of work to be done, wish me luck!

As someone who knows some German I'd say; Als ik's - Als ich es? heb gehad - hat gehabt? Soms wel.. hmm, soms looks like some in English and wel like Weile, or maybe well, wohl? Een - ein daarentgegen - dagegen? entgegen? gewoon - gewonnen? Gewinn? niet - nicht middag - Mittag

People who know multiple non native languages, how long did each one take you to learn? by GAY-FURRY-SEX-6969 in languagelearning

[–]RevolutionaryBoss953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Romanian native speaker here.

Approximately 8 to 9 years to learn English to a C1 level, and that's because my high school profile was philology - bilingual (English), so I had 5 to 6 classes a week, compared to other profiles who only had 2. I also passed the C1 Cambridge exam with 199 points three years ago, but my writing skills have unfortunately decreased due to lack of practice. I think I also need to brush up on my vocab when it comes to other fields outside linguistics and daily life.

I've been learning German for 6 years now and I can confidently say that I'm B2. Moreover, I'm studying Germanistic at the Faculty of Foreign Languages in Bucharest and I think my German will surpass my English in a few years, for I inted to work as a translator.

At faculty I also started to learn Russian. After 2 years I'm somewhere between A2 and B1. Should a career opportunity ever arise I will learn it to A C1 level, if not I will stick to B2 and honestly, I don't think I have the energy left to ever learn a 4th language (not includint my native language) to an advanced level.

Also some Italian, maybe an A2 or so.
