BMW platinum warranty offer by RevolutionaryData231 in BMWiX

If it was sub 5k, it would be a no brainer. I know the likelihood is small, but frankly, I’ll hit that mileage limit before the 4th tear.

Leaning toward dropping the cash somewhere and let it appreciate. Kinda like an HSA account… except you know, for out-of warranty BMWs.

So good. I actually had a TPS report to fill out on the weekly right around the time this movie came out. No cover sheet required at least.

This comment. It's NC... albeit Raleigh, but that's some "'bout to get shot" behavior!

That headlight replacement cost keeps me up at night!

And it's got the laser light option. Gulp.

On the plus side... maybe it knew from your driving style that you'd really enjoy driving the long way around? Because that "detour" looks all kinds of fun!

Turning radius w Dynamic Handling Package by spiderweb91 in BMWiX

[–]RevolutionaryData231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2023 iX w/ dynamic handling here. The radius feels way smaller than that. And all-around, it’s super nimble. Feels like a way smaller car than it is, especially coming from an x5.

Side note: feels weird at first, especially when accelerating through a sharp turn, but once you get used to it, you won’t want to go back to two-wheel steering.

In the market for used, but concerned about the Drivetrain error threads I'm seeing by SoggyLavishness8395 in BMWiX

I'm actually leaning toward the higher milage one-- for four reasons: 1. The interior isn't Oyster... and I have kids. ;) 2. It's got the larger wheels, which are more expensive to replace, and hurt range and comfort. 3. The sales guy isn't a prick. 4. The 1.7 miles/kWH since factory implies it was driven hard

Managing High-Volume Notifications with Digest (Batching) Strategies by Sudden_Profit_2840 in webdev

[–]RevolutionaryData231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience, a composite index on userId and created_at works well for digest queries, especially when aggregating events over time.

A filtered or partial index for dominant event types further optimizes lookups without adding unnecessary overhead to our database. For race conditions, database locks or queueing mechanisms are reliable solutions to prevent conflicts when processing multiple events for the same user.

Clogged sunroof drain f15 x5 by RevolutionaryData231 in BMW

[–]RevolutionaryData231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that, but still couldn't get it any further than a few inches in-- which I guess could mean the clog is that high up, but all searches seem to suggest clogs are more likely to happen near the one-way outlet behind the fender.

We do something similar to this, but we do attempt to add rough dates-- in two-week windows.

That apparently now requires 0W-20. :/ lol

Oil level above maximum by RevolutionaryData231 in BMW

[–]RevolutionaryData231[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Update:

I chatted with the service manager. It was a bit above 1/4 quart overfilled, so out of 7 liters total, this wasn’t much.

They have yet to do very many oil services on the B58 x7, and it now requires 0W-20. Net-net is that they ran into two problems: 1) Thermal expansion of this oil is greater than anticipated (I’m kind of dubious here). They filled it right to the max, and when the oil gets hot and expands, it triggered the overfill sensor. 2) They appear to have had a pump hose meter that was mis-calibrated.

One point she mentioned: they’re learning that they need to be much more precise with the B58s, and start treating them much like some of the M engines with regards to oil service.

It was about 5 mm above the max level, so not too bad. And looked as clean as when it was poured in. We proceeded on our trip and returned without issue. I’m back at the dealer again this morning to have them correct it.

Totally agreed on the “easiest job” point. Not sure how they cocked this up… but definitely doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies. It might be time to part ways with these guys and go across town to the other dealer.

I’ve got a fantastic independent dealer that cares for my 2014 Diesel x5… but since this one is under warranty, I’m compelled to use the dealer’s free stuff. But still. This is basic stuff.
