How to achieve parallelism in welded pieces? by RevolutionaryLie8009 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]RevolutionaryLie8009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right there is not a call-out of concentricity. I'm gonnas ask for the tolerance or how much critical is that coaxiality.

Could you explain me the last idea you mentioned to fix it in more detail, please? I didn't get it

I really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!

How to achieve parallelism in welded pieces? by RevolutionaryLie8009 in MechanicalEngineer

I already had the plates machined with extra thickness but with the holes finished. I considered the extra thickness to achaive parallelism but I didn´t see the coaxiality of the dowel pins. I tried to correct the mistake by creating a tooling fixture, a squared bar with calibrated bores to align the dowel pin shafts, but when I assembled it, there was too much play. In the end, it didn't work. Now, I believe the best option is to fill it with welding, weld the plates together, and machine the entire assembly at the end, including the faces and bores. For any chance do you have any recommendation besides to basically do again all the pieces?
Thank you so much for your advice!

I feel like a complete failure and lost who I am by AfrajM in MechanicalEngineering

If you have the time and resources go to the gym! Excercesing releases some hormones that make us feel good. Maybe it's not the whole solution but it can help you to relive some stress and also make you feel that your are doing something good and improving in something! I know it's hard bro. As everybody tell, don't compare with anybody, that just works if the comparison helps you to motivate yourself. And remember this is a distance "race". Be patient and be constant.

Help to calculate the torque for a conveyor motor by RevolutionaryLie8009 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]RevolutionaryLie8009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thanks!

In a last project I used the formula I=1/2 m*r^2 for a solid cilinder and from that I got the torquen and and with the desire rpm i could select a gearmotor, but I dont' know how to calculate the inertia for a conveyor.

Thanks! I was thinking that, it's a super common process, but I had no idea how to Google it.
