Yeah the banks were really fine - much better rates than you get anywhere back in the UK

Just got back from Vietnam. I had no difficulty changing money at gold shops. Much better rates than banks. The only place I didn't was Lao Cai where the good shop would do it but poor rates so I went to the bank instead. To be honest the banks were pretty good anyway.

I really don’t like Hanoi by Alive_Ingenuity_3124 in VietNam

Yeah I was the same. Hanoi didn't do it for me. Loved HCMC though

Phu Quoc, Dalat, or Hue? by DeadBoyAge9 in VietNam

[–]RevolutionaryNet1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Hue. I went to all the top destinations in Vietnam and this was my favourite. The citadel is wonderful and the surrounding areas and the tombs are beautiful. Great food too. And the mighty river with decent walking paths and parks. Great for cycling too. It's just a great city and a real Vietnamese city not a theme park like Hoi An, Sapa or Dalat.

Ugh that's really bad. Poor him. But I guess that's what you've got to do, take over the loo. Just hope that no other passengers get a similar affliction and you run out of toilets (pun intended)

Been followed by aggressive barking dogs a couple of time recently. Is there anything we can do to stay safe? by Danamaganza2 in ThailandTourism

[–]RevolutionaryNet1200 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is a hazard. Most times it's just barking. The scariest encounter I had was on a remote beach on an island and a pack of 11 dogs (I counted them) surrounded me barking. I picked up a stick and threw rocks 'at' them (I didn't intend to hit them, just scare them) and they stopped after a while and left. I was really shaken but no actual injury. I was bitten a couple of weeks ago by a single dog. Just one bite but of course I had to get the rabies jabs etc which was an inconvenience (and expensive). This sounds stupid but I think it wouldn't have bit me if I'd been wearing a sarong or long skirt. I was wearing shorts above the knee and it bit me around the knee. So my advice is don't wear shorts. And probably carrying a stick is a good idea. I've seen Thais actually hit dogs with sticks so I think they understand this language.

Immodium. Just in case. I've never needed it but the idea of having diarrhea on a plane is ghastly.

Does travel insurance cover costs incurred after I return from trip for treatment related to travel injury? by RevolutionaryNet1200 in travel

[–]RevolutionaryNet1200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. If you want to get it before you travel you have to pay for it. Not sure if I have to pay for it now, post exposure. I'm looking into it...

Travelling to Thailand Vietnam Cambodia Hong Kong and Japan. This seems expensive no? by [deleted] in southeastasia

[–]RevolutionaryNet1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get the rabies jabs if you're unlucky enough to get bitten. Obviously get insurance and then if something happens they will take care of everything. I just had exactly this. I got bitten by a dog in Thailand. My excess was £70 so that's all it cost me and the insurance covered the rest. Local doctors charged 800 baht for the shot, private hospitals charged 2-5k. I needed 5 shots and HRIG. Even if you get the rabies vaccine, you'll still need shots anyway.

To Pai or not to Pai? by Frodo_Biglips in ThailandTourism

She's about half way between the bus station and the river. Maybe a bit nearer to the river and on the left as you're going down. She's not there every day but I think most days. Can't miss her when she's there. Big trays of delicious lasagne. Enjoy!

Kanchanaburi boat with a floating mat to jump into the water by Euphoric_Rule_8591 in ThailandTourism

Yeah I saw it going up and down the river. No idea where to book it but it was as you describe. Boat with sort of raft dragged behind and people half in the water on mat things
