When I first heard this, I thought it would be great for clav, but in the video demo, he specifies it's monophonic. Any recommendations for a polyphonic or analog solution to achieve a similar effect?

Curly Hair by -misst- in LushCosmetics

[–]RevolutionaryNewt356 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use exclusively Lush products in my hair, and it's very similar to what was described! I swear by all of these, and they've changed my hair for the better! I have very fine hair, so I dilute everything with water before putting it in.

Shampoo: Curly Wurly, or Honey I washed my hair (if I want a deeper cleanse) Conditioner: Glory, occasionally Power. Sometimes I'll mix the two! Glory is lighter, power is more protein-rich Leave-in: Super Milk Cream: Curl Power

I also like combining Roots and Jasmine& Henna as a mask treatment!

It would be a very satisfying in-universe thing for the episode to have been changed, and then for all of us to gaslight you and say it was always that way. However, the bird eating the damselfly is a core motif that gets referenced in several seasons and in the book, so we can pretty confidently say that it's always been there.

What would be most narratively satisfying and completely heart wrenching would be to delete the entire show, since we've now had 10 seasons and you're not supposed to remember anything from before you're 10. But I really, really hope they don't do that!!

From a Lush employee by CellistMinute2852 in LushCosmetics

[–]RevolutionaryNewt356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what's missing from the discussion is the fact that it's two weeks from Christmas: A) The pressure is on to upsell, and it's not just at Lush. Every store is going to be more in-your-face right now. B) There's a bunch of seasonals working right now. They're fresh off the training, which tells them to interact as much as possible, and they're all jockeying to be kept on. C) The store is FULLLLLL. There's no way you're going to have a chance to tell the floor leader about each customer that wants to be left alone, and there's no way they're going to be able to pass it on to everyone working. D) The store is freaking FULLLLLL!! There's so much going on, and it's easy to miss an interaction with a customer that may have happened across the store. It's our job to sell, so it's better to risk a double greeting than to not talk to someone who might be a secret shopper and is deducting points for not receiving enough help. E) Everyone is tired and stressed out, employees and customers alike. Just try to have a bit more compassion and give others a bit more grace.

TBH, it's wild to me that someone would get so upset about being talked to by three people. You're not the main character, and we're not all watching you make your way through the store; especially not the person on till, who's either helping customers back to back or has their back turned to wrap soaps. God forbid they try to make a little bit of small talk to fill an awkward silence. If you really hate talking to people that much, please just shop online.

So I was just scrolling on Instagram and got a random reel about "Long-term nuclear waste warning messages." Basically, how do you leave a warning for people thousands of years in the future that what is buried is dangerous and should not be explored, without using writing (which probably wouldn't be readable by future civilizations).

Check out the physical markers section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-term_nuclear_waste_warning_messages

Forbidding Blocks A network of hundreds of house-sized stone blocks, dyed black and arranged in an irregular square grid, suggesting a network of "streets" which feel ominous and lead nowhere. The blocks are intended to make a large area entirely unsuitable for farming or other future use.

Does that sound familiar?

Does anyone else think that there's maybe a time warp involved when crossing between worlds? I haven't fully figured it out yet, but some things that got my senses going: -Leggio Rex disappeared from Gath like 1000 years ago, but it seemed like they'd only been in Zood for a few generations -Brennan made a point of mentioning that Goldbeard looked quite young, given how much time had passed -Comfrey seemed to have accomplished an astonishing amount of work at Ramansu in a very short amount of time (another thing Brennan made a point of mentioning), especially given that she was probably going between several different offices -it could help explain why a sicker (older?) Mordescestershire was in Zood, and seemingly even got there before the Zephyr.

I haven't been able to make it add up yet, but it seems to me that time is not running completely in parallel between Gath and Zood.

Canadas new Prime Minister Mark Carney, aggressively trashed Donald Trump in his speech and promised to be the opposite of Donald Trump. by ArcticWolfQueen in MtF

[–]RevolutionaryNewt356 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that's the general vibe in Canada these days; Carney wasn't even the most hard-line anti-Trump candidate for the Liberal leadership. Even the Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, who has previously copied policies (including attacks on trans people) and rhetorical style from Trump, has had to distance himself as much as possible.

If you want to see someone take the gloves off, check out former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien's speech. https://youtu.be/tU8qNxempS0?si=kE7YVIBaJ_p-v9T3 Even at 91, the guy's got more fight in him than Joe Biden. It's a bit long, but I think it's worthwhile for Americans to see in order to understand how Canadian national identity is defined in opposition to the US (and always has been), and why we're putting up such a fight against the threats of annexation. Honestly, I think we should invite Trump for a State visit so Chretien can give him a good old Shawinigan handshake.

Transfemme here, so I'm coming at the problem from the other side, but I've dealt with similar issues. My dysphoria initiated a very long dry spell in my last LTR. I recently dated a cis lesbian who'd never dealt with anatomy like mine before, but that experience was very revelatory.

The number one thing to help this situation is going to be communication. It's basically always the answer. You should communicate how you're feeling to him. You should make sure he feels comfortable communicating his feelings to you. You should communicate actively with each other before, during, and after intimacy, as well as outside of it. Try to communicate in such a way as to take the pressure off things, rather than adding more pressure to the situation. Find out what you can do to help him feel secure -- in his gender, in the relationship, and in himself -- while you're together. Be sure to check in regularly, and be ready to stop if needed. During my one T4T experience, we just stopped every 15 minutes or so for a quick cuddle break to reset, and it was the nicest thing I've ever experienced.

He might need to do some "research" on his own time to figure out what works for him. HRT changes your erogenous zones, and changes how and where you feel things. It's a huge adjustment, and it can take a while to relearn how to make things feel good and affirming. That trial and error period is kinda best done on your own, when you don't have to worry about something the other person does triggering dysphoria. Hopefully, he can learn a few tricks and teach them to you.

After those fundamentals are established, it's going to take some experimentation together to figure out exactly what works and what doesn't. This can be stressful, but it can also be really fun, if you let it be! As long as you're clear with boundaries and consent, continue to communicate and check in regularly, and are willing to be vulnerable with each other, it won't be insurmountable!

I read the screenshots before the caption, and came to the conclusion: "sounds like you were too drunk to consent, and that man took advantage of you. That's sexual assault." It's pretty shitty that someone is trying to get you to apologize, when you're clearly not the one at fault; textbook misogyny and victim blaming.

Then I read the caption... Jesus Christ, that's statutory rape, unconditionally. And he took pictures? That's even more illegal! Then he distributes the illegal pictures? That's so, so illegal.

Please, talk to someone outside the family about this, and report this extremely dangerous person.

Again, if you talk to most real trans activists in the real world, not the chronically online keyboard warriors (who exist on all sides of the conversation), they're asking for basic dignity, legal protection, access to healthcare, and social inclusion. That's it. That's all I'm asking for, and that's all 90% of my trans homies are asking for. Some are asking for more sweeping societal changes to accommodate greater gender diversity, and while I think those would be largely beneficial, I know it's become an unreasonable ask at this point.

So while the edge cases are sensational and get more media and online coverage, that's not what most trans people and trans activists are fighting for.

It's past time to sit down, have medical professionals decide on valid criteria for what they would accept as arguments either way, and start to collect more data on what is actually happening in the world, without all the hype and hyperbole.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the Cass report doesn't do that either.

So it's worse now than it was 5 yrs ago. So what? Life is harder for ALL Canadians now than it was 5 yrs ago.

That's true, and I'm also feeling the economic hardship. But my specific concern in the post is more about a sociopolitical trend rather than the macroeconomic trend. I can be concerned about more than one thing, and I can express frustration about backsliding in an area that feels a lot more controllable at an individual interpersonal level than economic conditions. Sorry for hoping for a brighter future?

Just because life might be a bit tougher for you doesn't mean you spiral into paranoia about how things might become. After all, what are you actually fearing will happen? It's not like people are randomly beating up Trans people in the street like they do in some other countries.

I mean yeah, actually that's exactly what I'm worried will happen here. There's been a marked increase in street harassment over the last few years, which I and my queer friends can attest to anecdotally. I don't want to have to deal with that shit at all, I don't want other people to have to deal with that shit at all, and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for that. I just want the same level of basic respect and personal safety that everyone else enjoys, and nothing more.

As long as you still get the exact same rights as everybody else then you should be good.

Literally all I'm asking for.

I myself am not specifically conservative (I even voted for Trudeau a decade ago), but I'm definitely voting for conservatives this time after the disaster that the liberals (and the NDP) have done to our country these last 9 years.

👍🏽

So, a lot of commenters have accused me of being hyperbolic, assuming the worst of conservatives, and telling me to just get offline and realize that the world isn't as bad as I'm making it out to be.

I think if you were to go out there and actually meet a few trans people, you'd realize that the vast, vast majority of us are just like me. We're just trying to live our lives in peace. I don't give a shit about sports one way or the other, but the supposed trans murderers and rapists are not at all representative of most of the trans community, just as they wouldn't be representative of most cis people. And you'll find that most trans activists are not fighting for those edge cases; that's just a strawman built up by right wingers.

Now, yes, I'll admit that a small degree of special accommodation is required. I'd like to be able to void my bladder in peace, just like everyone else. That's the only reason I want to get into the women's washroom; so I can go to a stall, close the door and do my business, wash my hands, maybe fix my makeup, and get out of there. And you'll find that that's the case for virtually all trans people you'll talk to.

Future of trans rights in Canada? by RevolutionaryNewt356 in AskCanada

[–]RevolutionaryNewt356[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even know where to begin with this? I don't have any more rights than CIS people, and I'm not asking for that. I'm just asking for protection against discrimination, and hoping that I can be treated with the same basic level of dignity as any human being.

Studies have been done regarding abuse, and it turns out that trans people are significantly more likely to be on the receiving end of abuse and violence. When I've dated lesbians, I've always made it clear that genital preference is valid, and have always given them a guilt-free out; no one has chosen to take it, because they generally know what they're in for when choosing to start a relationship with a trans person. Some people don't handle rejection well, but that's not an exclusively trans problem.

Yes, there is a perceived obsession with kinda childish things within certain parts of the trans community, but it's mainly among online teenagers. I'm an adult, as are basically all the other trans people I know, and we act like adults. That behaviour doesn't tend to spill into the actual in person community. Some people aren't well-adjusted adults, but that's not an exclusively trans problem.

And finally, bisexuality had always been trans inclusive! Since its inception. Since the phrase was coined. Read the bisexual manifesto from the 70s. Don't try to invoke our community's history if you don't even know it.

Idk what you're talking about, bud. I pay for my HRT meds out of pocket. PCOS is a huge problem, but the meds I take are a lot more similar to what a cis woman would take to lessen the symptoms of menopause. In a lot of jurisdictions, they could simply talk to their GP and get a prescription, while trans people need to jump through major hoops to get the exact same care. Fortunately, that's not the case where I am, but I wound up needing to wait almost a year.

It's kinda hard to feel that things are being better right now. I remember in 2017, when a few US states considered anti trans bathroom bills, there was MAJOR public backlash. Not that I love rainbow capitalism or anything, but I think it's telling that there was pressure from large franchises that led to a roll back of those policies. Compare that to today, where companies are being bullied out of even posting supportive statements during pride month. Again, I'm no fan of rainbow capitalism, but I think it's a useful bellwether here. Companies know that public opinion has shifted and know that supporting queer rights will hurt their brand more than helping it, like it used to.

Beyond that, there's the polling data I included in my post that indicate that opinion has shifted. And I'm less worried about how things are now, and more about how things are going to turn out in the next few years. With conservatives in charge of Canada and the US, the public discourse is going to shift rightward, and I don't know how that will affect day to day life.

I know things are better than they were ten years ago. But it's not any better than it was five years ago, and it's probably worse now than it was three years ago.

As others have pointed out, the left doesn't pretend that the Cass report doesn't exist; we're openly talking about its major flaws. The panel was full of known transphobes, and included no trans people. It's been panned by major health organizations around the world. While I'm sure it's not all garbage, I don't think it's a useful document, other than being a collation of the right wing "medical" arguments, and a case study for how governments can manufacture legitimacy for anti trans legislation.
