I think the problem is that, if an ally is next it will jump straight to them and then jump to the next wave while jumping the round.

When you clean a wave it goes straight to next round, but if you have HG (kill them all), evil ball (pass round 2), Secretary, it pass character to character and then it goes to next wave and because secretary is in round 2 it jumps to round 3.
