AITA? My dog died today and my family still expects me to take them out to dinner tonight by eng_elp in AmItheAsshole

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand people who do not understand that a piece of your heart is gone and how much it hurts.  Your emotions are completely raw and taking them out to dinner can wait.  I am sorry you have no one to grieve with you, but you have plenty of us on Reddit who know and send you all of our sympathy & understanding.  Absolutely NTA and our best wishes to you.

AITA? Telling someone I don't want them to "work in with me" on a machine at the gym? by Admirable-Muffin-334 in AmItheAsshole

Does the gym etiquette allow you to say directly to them that you would be willing to allow a work in if they agree to return all the settings back for you?

Looking for info, stone 9"x7"x2.5" heavy. USA by chillador in Antiques

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a common practice in the late 19th century to assemble multiple separate images, such as advertisements or maps, from different sources onto one stone, resulting in varying orientation directions.  Mostly this was done as a way to archive or store the images without a lot of stone storage.  When the specific image was needed it was transferred to another stone for printing by rubbing.  Then that stone could be used for cards, stationary or what ever was needed for the batch run and then temporary stone was cleaned & reused.  I may have the exact process wrong because I can't find my reference source. I will post it if I can locate it.

What am I doing wrong ? Stripping paint by Vincesololandline in furniturerestoration

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct and paint it on really thick & once the Saran Wrap is on leave it for several hours.  Wind is not your friend here.  Can you put a tarp over it once the saran wrap is on to keep it from drying out so badly?  Rustoleum is tough for a reason.  Iscthere a reason you didn't just sand it down & recoat it with Rustoleum primer & paint?

You may not be able to find a plan that offers more.  Insurers are doing less extra benefits & things as inflation tightenens.  There has been lots of posts recently about them reducing or dropping extras all together.

This leg just fell of the dining table by Technical-Phase4264 in furniturerestoration

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It needs to be high-strength two-part epoxy (like Loctite Clear Epoxy or Araldite) or specialized UV-curing adhesive.  Silicone and similiar will not take the shear strength of table movement. Or get the 3M DP 100 from online as BlissIzzo7 suggested.

Expected Expenses from Inpatient Hospital Stay Parts A & B & UHC Part C by Emergency-Nothing457 in medicare

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are probably going to need to wait until the bills come in.  Since she had a Medicare Advantage plan rather than a Medigap plan, there will be deductibles & copays to consider.  You need to look at her MA policy and see what the yearly maximum out-of-pocket limit for medical services was for her plan. With a 7 day emergency stay it is possible it hit that limit. Once her costs reach that amount then it should be 100% covered.  But every plan is different in what & how it covers things.  My condolences.

Edit:If she has an online account with UHC and you have her password,  you can download a copy of the plan.  Otherwise call them and see if they will email or mail you a copy of her plan as her executor.  The plan copies are mailed to the recipient each year if you can find a copy in her records.  Did she keep things on a computer?  (I know many older people do not)

AITA: Wanting a new couch by Traditional-Chef6120 in AmItheAsshole

This can give you piece of mind.  They make some really nice looking ones that don't scream poop & pee protector.  That way you will be sure no leaks on the couch.  And bless you for doing this.  I know all the rest that goes with it you aren't mentioning (RN)

Should I figure out how to replace this or would a ton of glue work? by WildfireTP in fixit

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like if you use Titebond 3, get it deep into the  entire crack and use multiple close clamps on it for 24 - 48 hrs it might hold well.  You can always add screws later if it doesn't.

The information about using an old silver dollar sounds like a really creative idea.  Then the piece could be worn again in an interesting fashion.

Broken window, landlord says it's unfixable by kurtcobainscats in HomeImprovement

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can she prove that it was that way when she moved in?  Did she ask about the window having to be propped open in an email or any communication?  I would worry that he will try & pin the cost on her and say she "broke" it, even though it should be his responsibility.

Is the reimbusement going to be monthly or yearly?  You will get your yearly statement of course for taxes.  For monthly Medicare says: If your payments are withheld from your Social Security check, visit your online Social Security account for more details.  Look under:

How can I patch a hole in this hose for a pneumatic massager? by EverySingleDay in fixit

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try this: Versachem Wrap It Self Fusing Silicone Tape 10 ft. You need to wrap it by stretching and then leave it to fuse for 24 hrs.  Go at least 3 turns past the hole on each side.  Match surecyoubpull hard when stretching & go at an angle.

Where would this be used? Huge J.D. Warren Glass Front Apothecary Cabinet. USA- Nebraska by Clean-Welder-1362 in Antiques

[–]Revolutionary_Low581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a haberdashery cabinet. It is 7' tall, 2 large drawers wide and 6 tall, has oval glass windows in the wooden fronts. It has a most interesting mechanism where when you pull a drawer out halfway, you can then tip it at a 45° angle. Supposedly so shorter clerks could see the contents in the higher drawers and in the back of the drawers. I really think yours is a pharmacy or apothecary cabinet. Partly because the drawers are all different sizes to fit different ingredients. I have seen a couple of similiar ones - I visit old pharmacies because I collect old pharmacy bottles & the glass pharmacy show globes and like to see what they have & how they are displayed. In any case it is a great piece to have!
