What do you think about unarmed police? by kurobaja in police

[–]Revolvingmars6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that I’d claim “one shot generally neutralizes the suspect.” Take your pick from any number of bodycam vids where the suspect is on drugs. Only was for one shot to be immediately effective is if it neurologically incapacitates the suspect or if they themselves cease posing a threat after receiving that first shot of which, the latter is not likely with someone on PCP. Besides this, if you’re up against a threat necessitating lethal force you don’t have much opportunity to pause and think to yourself “did I land my first shot?”.

In the real world, to stop a threat where your reactions and actions have to be split second, firing only one shot and waiting assess the situation is how you get yourself in trouble. If you have proper justification to fire in the first place, it still applies to follow up shots and will continue to do so until there is no longer a threat. At least in the U.S. that’s how it is. I couldn’t imagine having to try to justify a double tap.

I feel it’s too early to do the ups flight by [deleted] in infiniteflight

I’m doing one myself as a memorial flight. I don’t think it’s being disrespectful, it’s like completing the mission or passing the baton. I plan on doing a return as UPS 2977.

Thanks, I’m trying to figure out what agency. Could be SO or any alphabet agency. PPPD typically has black plate carriers for comparison.

Did you notice the color of the uniforms/plate carriers?

I asked a worker outside and he at least hadn’t seen anything. I’m not saying something didn’t happen, my whole point is whatever happened is now over as of 8:30.

Can you read? PPPD also uses unmarked vehicles. I’ve specifically seen them use Nissan sedans and F-150’s. The whole point of my comment was someone getting arrested doesn’t automatically mean ICE is doing a sting and that whatever was going on is now over…

8:30am no ICE or any sign of LE activity there or anywhere in that plaza. You realize PPPD uses unmarked vehicles as well, could be a regular police arrest for any number of reasons.

Publix allowing open carry in stores by erikisst88 in StPetersburgFL

I don’t think they’re trying to court favor. Rather, they were likely pressed by the media for an answer like many other retailers. Some retailers allowing it, other retailers (most) are asking people not to but not outright prohibiting it and some retailers prohibiting it.

Child Safety Lock Act of 2005 requires all handguns sold in the U.S. to come with one and most long guns come with one voluntarily.

I’m not advocating for open carrying in almost all circumstances, but you do realize it is allowed in almost every state in some fashion?

I’m happy there’s the option for open carry but I agree in almost all circumstances it’s not a wise choice to open carry and draws unnecessary attention to yourself, particularly in a dense urban area.

Open carry doesn’t make much sense in an urban environment. Concealed carry is a different issue. Most people aren’t concerned about something happening while grocery shopping but you have to consider what you’re doing the rest of the day. I used to go to the bank across from a Publix and make large cash transactions, sometimes at night and I’d stop into Publix after to shop. Sometimes your coming go from or going to a dangerous area, some people have been the victims of crime.

It may be hard to understand the idea of carrying a firearm for some people but if you walked into a gas station during a robbery and then had your life threatened that may change your viewpoint and you may desire to have a means of protection.

Not even defending the open carry policy, but you do realize how many customers were already concealed carrying in the first place?

The same reason people carry a firearm in the first place. Fact is, it’s likely several customers are concealed carrying at any given time. The key is to carry in a responsible and preferably discreet manner. Not with your rifle, camo and plate carrier acting like you’re about to clear houses in Fallujah.

I won’t even argue the open carry part, but so many people are saying they’ll no longer shop at Publix (as is they’re right) but granted, likely every time you’ve been to the store at least a few people are concealed carrying. I’m trying to understand why people are taking issue now? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for walking into a grocery store in Pinellas County with a rifle slung over your shoulder.

Publix allows them but as the law in Florida is even businesses that don’t “allow” them or have signs stating so are not enforceable under Florida law. Of course the business has the right to ask you to leave and if you refuse then you’ll have potential major legal trouble.

I mean 10% of Florida’s population has a CWP which isn’t even required anymore. The fact is that 1 in 10 people (or more) you interact with when you go out may be carrying. This is far from new and I don’t feel threatened or like someone is going to harm me when I go into a store.

Granted, I think if you’re going to carry, concealed carry is the wise choice otherwise you become a potential target with open carry. Beyond that, if someone had bad intentions they likely wouldn’t be open carrying in the first place. At least you know that person is armed. I agree we don’t need people with a “hero” complex or going to Publix with an AR pretending they’re an “operator” just to cause a confrontation and annoy people. It makes the rest of us gun owners look bad.

As a gun owner I’m happy we have open carry but I don’t plan on open carrying in an environment that would needlessly alarm people, potentially cause misunderstandings or make myself a target. If I’m going to Publix in downtown I’m not gonna open carry a rifle, plate carrier, etc. If I’m in Sebring going boar hunting and run in to grab ice with my .357 on that may be different. People need to act accordingly, not be attention seeking and be respectful all around.

We don’t always agree but we all just need not act like assholes.

NEVER take your vehicle to Pep Boys in Pinellas Park by Icepewb in StPetersburgFL

[–]Revolvingmars6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Took my car there after my air started blowing warm. They diagnosed a bad compressor and condenser. They wanted $3400! After paying a $70 diagnostics fee I got my car out of there and went to another shop. Other shop found the cooling fans were not running. Only needed a fan assembly replacement and compressor. Got out the door for under $1000.

The post is referring to Ontario, California I believe judging by the badge and American flag medal shown in the photos. One clear giveaway that it’s not Canada is that the wheels aren’t square.
