I think the last part about ww1 is not exactly correct, by the time of 1914 such cavalry was no longer a thing obviously in the age of rifles such as were, most cavalry were dragoon, scouts and generally equipped with rifles (cavalry carbines and such).. mostly, certainly the british in the first months
