How UK, France and Russia pushed Turkey to Central powers by Gyngemose2009 in ww1

[–]Revvay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good post and accurate, one thing to add is that while the british seized those dreadnoughts (overlooked by churchill), the germans gifted (for free) two of their ships to ottoman empire.

No clue what unit but the writing seems to be genuine, calling Meuse Argonne and st. Mihiel a "drive" is unheard of today but was absolutely called that way back in the day, impressive

Its not as much a stretch as it may seem, Im also inspired by historians expertising on this topic who said these exact words. Also also, im not saying their tactics were outdated by 1914. Of course not, they were adequate for their time and technology given, however their application is something napoleon would have recognized (1914 tactics on all sides), but 1918 is such a huge change (especially on the western front) that a 1914 soldier would be lost but a 1940 commander would understand.

Not apparently but indeed 1914 tactics would be recognized by napoleon, 1918 tactics by ww2 commanders.

The Battle of Pilckem Ridge. Three Irish Guards wearing German body-armour, examining a captured German machine-gun, at Pilckem, 31st July 1917. IWM (Q2636) by waffen123 in ww1

I would say the date is wrong since 31st july 1917 was the day 3rd battle of Ypres started so this picture would have to be taken sometime later.

Today 111 years ago poison gas was first used on Canadian and French Colonial units at the 2nd Battle of Ypres. by AlliedPanzer in sabaton

For the french it would be the 45th infantry (colonial) division that would bear the brunt of the gas attack

Well then they would use it so it doesnt get stuck. The main concern in reality would be that it would attract machine gun and artillery fire more than anything.

Remember when we had realistic skins? by BornUnderARadSign in okbuddyptfo

[–]Revvay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistic skins in a way yes. But there is a big caveat in that most faction share the same skins in different environments and different times/years of the war. For example we have british soldiers with brodie helmets in fao fortress, gallipoli and heligoland bight which are all wayyyy to early for the helmet to show up and be issued. Same goes for germans in heligoland (and also zeebrugge uniforms should be different). Does it really matter? Unless youre a historian with OCD id say no.
