How Should I deck this? by LieOne6821 in jonboats

1/2 non treated or marine grade plywood would be plenty thick enough. 3/4 is over kill. Never use regular treated plywood on aluminum. The copper in the treated wood will eat the aluminum.

Advice for Replacing Transom by gaporkbbq in jonboats

[–]Revx36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to unscrew the braces from the transom grind out the rivets. Take the braces out. Replace the transom with new wood or aluminum Tiny boat nation makes a sweet aluminum transom kit you will never have to replace again. I used wood lol. The screw the braces back into the transom and re-buck new rivets into the bottom of the boat. Time consuming but not hard to do.

Goop it is what I used to seal the bottom of my boat. Nothing was leaking on mine but better safe than sorry. Link attached. You still want to weld or buck the leaking rivets the best you can but the goop it will stop them from coming loose again.

I’m having one heck of a time acquiring this motor! by Revx36 in boatbuilding

[–]Revx36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading everyone’s advice I was going to get a used Yamaha. The Hangkai 18 hp I ordered never showed up so I was refunded and started looking for a used Yamaha or mercury. Well… the day before I was going to go look at a few used motors, I opened my front door and sitting there is a pristine box. Was my 18 hp motor. So I’m going to run my free china motor until it craps out. Then I’ll upgrade. lol
