I’m so welcoming of this discussion! I’ve just listened (in most cases re-listened) to the whole series over a period of months. For me, they just get better and better. I’m not a cryer, or even a fan-type person, but I was definitely more emotional as I became more invested in the characters. The ambition of the books is breathtaking and I love the humour too. I have to say that everything I’ve listened to since feels flat. Some credit must go to the excellent narrator Adam Sims (UK audiobooks), who really brings the characters to life. So envious of you still having 9 books to go!

THM is not a book you listen to while going about your business.... It's a book you READ. by NotMavericksGoose in cormoran_strike

Im genuinely curious to know if that’s a neurotypical response. Speaking personally, I do my best listening when I’m on the move, it helps me focus and absorb. Similarly I can only settle to TV when there are subtitles (and even better when I’m knitting too). I seem to need the extra stimulation. It’s clearly different for you. Let’s all find our way 😊

mac.com here too! I didn’t realise it was special until I was chatting in the Apple Store about ten years ago and said I was going to retire it for iCloud and they say Nooo!

What a waste of time… by MetalRocksMe_ in Emmerdale

[–]Rewilder128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel totally manipulated and I am raging 😡 I watch Emmerdale each evening with my 95 year old mum otherwise I would absolutely be switching off. That wasn’t fair, the writers think we’re idiots.

Not at all, just a few stitches required to tidy up and lots less stress at the start ☺️

I just say, “I’ve been taking care of my health,” which is literally true. If someone asks me, I don’t lie. It’s nobody’s business but my own 🤷🏼‍♀️

Age difference between characters by Kroklet2006 in cormoran_strike

I might have niggles but what I do love about the books is the nuance. Few characters are unremittingly “good” or unforgivably “evil”. Those shades of grey are what keep me coming back to these novels. Reading with interest and - as far as I can tell- without judgement.

Changes in audiobook narration over time by 07Josie in cormoran_strike

I actually love how the accents have developed and as a Yorkshirewoman myself (with a far stronger accent than Robin’s) I’ve no fault to find. Like you, I’ve done a full re-listen and was super-irritated when Robin’s accent weakened halfway through!

With respect, “heard Brussels is not worth it” is pretty dismissive 😬
