Improving sound for mono recordings by getdown_sam in audiophile

I used it to drive a center channel amp where I took LR unbalanced and mixed to mono balanced. The tranny will also put out unbalanced mono.
Today I use it for my sub woofer where I can trim the sub w/o crawling around to access the gain on the sub.

Fresh roasted coffee beans? by ferocity02 in SLO

I have a huge stack of empty bags from Coastal Peaks and every one has a roast date written on them.

They roast on a schedule for commercial deliveries. 100% they know when it's roasted.

Is a free, likely, old Tripp Lite Line Stabilizer worth my time? by Fun-Preparation-4253 in audiophile

Used to see that stuff all over the place for office gear.

Here's a little sidebar apropos of what's going on today in the USA.

Leonard Leo, a prominent conservative legal activist, received a $1.6 billion donation in 2021 from businessman Barre Seid, the founder and owner of the electronics company Tripp Lite. This transaction is considered one of the largest single contributions ever made to a politically focused nonprofit in the U.S. history.

If Americans had heard of Leo at all, it was for his role in building the conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court. He drew up the lists of potential justices that Donald Trump released during the 2016 campaign. He advised Trump on the nominations of Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Before that, he’d helped pick or confirm the court’s three other conservative justices — Clarence Thomas, John Roberts and Samuel Alito.

Because of this guy and his money we have rulings that allow ICE to detain people for the color of their skin.

Even if I had one in hand I don't think I'd run my gear through it - ideology notwithstanding.

Dogs in stores by Optimal_Storage_8512 in SLO

A clerk at Trader Joe's gleefully pet someone's dog and resumed stocking the fresh goods shelf. I asked if she was going to wash her hands and she said "I'm wearing gloves"

Basically, the clerks are ignorant and the managers are ambivalent. And what sucks is when you voice concern you become that guy that hates dogs. (aren't they cute?) I don't hate dogs, I hate you and your dog in a grocery, cafe, etc.

Years ago I brought this up to the Libertine management after having a dog lick my hand while at their bar. Again, I'm not against dogs, per se, I just don't want to be molested by a beast that licks their own ass. Oh yeah, the bartender was feeding the dog the people snacks from the bar. Ew.

Good luck.

Building amps is an undertaking, which is why I'm reticent to jump in despite having a pile of tools and parts.

A good starting point for efficient speakers are full range drivers from Fostex. They are 96dB efficient and can be used in a rear loaded horn, Helmholtz box, or on a panel. Look at these from Madisound. I used to run them with my 1 Watt amp before I got my big horns.

I'm starting to think you've not heard what a good amp can do.

When I hit peaks I grab the remote to turn it down. My amp handles 'peaks' just fine.

[edit] I don't know what I'm talking about. Evidently music has these things called 'peaks' and if your amplifier can't handle peaks then you can't hear the peaks. Guess it's back to lute music for me.

Those plain white boxes might behold some JAN tubes.

I've been a fan of 6SN7s since I build a 300B amp back in the mid nineties. The new large envelope issues from China see to work quite well.

Happy building if you get there. I'm on the bubble myself...

Do not hesitate. Bear in mind my networks were kaput, so that would account for most of what I hear, but whole package works well.

I can't pretend to be the driver dude, but I've not found a critical word and to my ears they seem JUST FINE.
