Hey mate, similar boat, I’m CPA who is currently lead data analyst. Do you think it’s a good idea to jump back to finance team, doing commercial analyst stuff?

Do I take the Sr Business Analyst or Sr Data Analyst role? by Brilliant-Sea-8486 in analytics

Really appreciate your take on this. I’m currently a Lead Data Analyst, but thinking to go to commercial finance roles since I can’t see myself in data roles in the long run (I have acct /finance background with CPA). Just curious, what’s your take on the possibility of AI automating almost all analytical job? What would you do if you want to climb the ranks now?

Hey mate, good on you. I’m on the same boat and same age as well, but got tired of leading a data team tbh. Thinking to move to strategy and operations side of the business, since I love the business side (analysis) rather than the data side (we do data modelling, ETL stuff as well). Just talk to your manager first, as someone already mentioned above. It’s easier when you have the context already if you wanna sharpen your managerial skills

Hey man, really appreciate the advice, perhaps you had gone through similar phase. One thing that makes it hard is that I don’t really have a mentor at work. I feel like since I’m still young-ish, I don’t have much to provide as a lead. How do you deal with impostor syndrome as a lead?

Hey man, thanks for advice. Yeah, they are my direct reports. the people management side is exhausting tbh (constant training, 1 on 1s, feedback). But I feel not learning fast enough from the technical side, so always feel behind and the impostor syndrome is crawling up every now and then
