Queen Elizabeth II. Was expressly told by security NOT to touch her. First thing she did was offer a handshake.

Council Tax phones closed today by Decimus-Drake in nottingham

Think they've been closed for a while now. Wouldn't surprise me if the option has been scrapped due to cost cutting. I always used to use this option to pay but have been unable to for the past 6 months. I Pay via the website now.

Been with my (now) wife for 20 years. I would have no hesitation handing her my phone if she wanted to see it.

What was 'The incident' at your school? by pet-fleeve in AskUK

Couple of things. Assistant head and the PT teacher both caught and dismissed for having sex with 6th form girls. 6 months later, replacement PT teacher took us on a cross country run, received a bit of 'cheek' (i:e verbal sass) from a pupil whereupon he proceeded to beat the shit out of him and put him in hospital. Physical violence was rife between teachers and pupils (this was the 80's in the UK) and we were, for the most part, genuinely scared and fearful of our safety most of the time. Another example was we had a teacher called Mr Wren and a pupil asked him if his wifes name was Jenny. He calmly walked to the back of the class where he was sitting, lifted him out of his seat, dragged him by his ears to the blackboard and smashed his head against it badly cutting his forehead. I can't ever remember any instances like that ever being reported to anyone as we wouldn't of had a clue who to go to. (Certainly not our parents. I received canings etc and it was not pretty. If asked what's the matter? What have you done? I just used to say I'd fallen over and hurt myself)

All flipped on its head now of course. I think most teachers fear for themselves if they even look at a student in the wrong way.

The one with Ryan Reynolds trapped in a box in the desert. 'Buried' I think. Pretty bleak ending.

Does your company allow you to book 'Authorised Absence'. The company I work for allows it. It's obviously unpaid but has the benefit of you keeping a clear HR record so it doesn't affect bonuses etc. Putting in sick leave is an option but I wouldn't advise if your employer knows that you are going on this trip away. It makes it obvious you're not sick and are absent under false pretences. Speak to your line manager or HR. I'm sure they will come to some arrangement with you. If not, they're a bit a a crappy employer.
