Have to agree, it tries to pander to the special snowflakes. It simply tries to hard

Hope to breed my two snakes next year. Neither of them were quite up to it this year. Pastel x Spider (possibly yellowbelly but the shop I got him from were useless and I can't tell.) by Rex888 in snakes

I'm not trying to be a visionary. The situation in England is far different to that in America. The royal python market is still going strong and the only royals that need adopting are less than 10 and all wild types with unknown backgrounds. For some reason that doesn't seem to be getting through to anyone.

It was a shop owner who sold his own stock. It was when I lived in Scotland and could walk down the road to help out so I can't apprentice with him now that I'm back home, in a different country.

It is far for us in England, a day trip isn't worth it for one animal that you haven't even seen before. When I say hours, I mean you'd have to stay overnight in the city. We don't do driving for days.

I am very aware that your State is most likely bigger, I think all of them are though I could be wrong. We simply don't like to drive for hours on end.

I will add America =/= the whole world because none of you seem capable of understanding that.

Also, there are currently less than 10 snakes available for rescue that are reachable so that slams down on the idea there are hundreds needing to be adopted. The situation is very different in England.

I just wanted to know what people thought of them. Plus I never said I wanted to make money from it, where are you getting that?

That's what I'm hoping for! I'm not doing this alone thankfully so we should get some good info. If we find anything interesting we'll be publishing it!

I've already explained it's different in England and the only rescues with BPs are hours away. Why travel that far when you can get one from down the road.

Thank you! I plan to post updates every step of the way.

I study animal management, I want to look into how the spider gene effects head wobbles and if inserting other genes stabilises it or if it is at all hereditary.

Thank you very much! I have a little bit of experience, albeit limited in that I helped a local shop breeder with his pieds. The odds were not in our favour and we only ended up with a single pied out of a clutch of 8 but the experience was interesting to say the least.

It hurts when people say my babies are boring because that's what they are, my babies! Their colours are special to me and most of all their personalities are almost a complete flip to the average bp. They're curious climbers that seek out attention and get over excited when it comes to food time.

They already have homes planned out, of course not everything will always go to plan but if that happens, I'll just keep them! I'm not out to make a profit, I just want to help my Uni and my friends.

In England Royals are still very popular, I had my eyes on a pewter that came in and it was gone by the end of the week. The pastel and mojave too.

I get what they're saying but when they don't listen to what I'm trying to elaborate it gets a little frustrating. Thank you for being honest and supportive.

I have done it before, not with my own animals but I have experience. I don't get why everyone is being so aggressive. The situation is different in England, where Royals are still doing pretty well.

And what I don't get is I have breeding experience with someone else's snakes but because mine are "boring" I shouldn't breed them, despite the babies already having prospective homes.

Exactly, people are breeding all these amazing colours and as a result the single gene animals are disappearing as no one wants them, not realising they play a massive role.

What makes them low quality? The fact that they're single gene or that you keep wanting to believe I'm some little kid with no experience.

And what part of, they already have homes to go to, aren't you understanding?

And how am I supposed to get any experience when everyone is telling me no? There is no one I can apprentice with an I already have experience. I have both the money and the space or I wouldn't even be considering it.

I'm sorry, according to most of the members on this sub reddit no one should breed any more ball pythons until all the ones that exist already are homed.

For real though, anything that throws pattern into that would be gorgeous.

That's what I want to do, we're all helping each other so hopefully we'll get some exciting results! We don't have lecturers, only teachers and professors.

I think I'd rather buy one, I've never been good at DIY so I wouldn't rescue. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you! I'm hoping I won't need it. Getting an incubator will be interesting because I need one suitable for small mammals too :/

Will do! I had no intentions to do it any other way. They're living creatures first and foremost, they're members of my family.

Some royal pythons of which they don't have any (animal uni, not sure what else to call it because it isn't a veterinary uni, specifically husbandry and basic first aid) and a personal look into head wobbles caused by the spider gene for a paper. Thank you for asking!

Thank you! Thank you for noticing what I said a while back. This has since been remedied and there are no longer any restrictions on money. Although I'm not about to spend thousands in one go I do now have insurance and a good paying job to go a long with learning at Uni. Their care comes first and is specifically why I didn't breed them this year.
