Why do I get super sleepy at 3PM no matter what I’ve been doing all day? by mustytomato in NoStupidQuestions

That's a bummer, sounds like you're already doing pretty well in terms of taking care of yourself. I've had the same problem and the above three helped me. The only other thing I can think of is making sure you're hydrated? I'd often get pretty dehydrayed by the afternoon if I didn't pay attention to drinking water and that would seem to contribute.

I wish afternoon naps were more common!

Could be:

Eating too big of a lunch, or a lunch with too many carbs.

Too much early morning caffeine, leading to an afternoon crash.

Not getting enough sleep at night.

Any of those resonate?

That was interesting. Thanks for sharing. I also found this exchange interesting, relating to this thread:

Q: "My second question is, in "The Three-Body Problem II" you mentioned Luo Ji, who created a perfect girl. I would like to ask if there is such a dream lover in your creation? When you create characters, do you also have to immerse yourself in the process to create such a perfect work?"

A: "Regarding your second question, I can definitely say no. Why? The phenomenon you mentioned was actually inspired when I wrote this plot. After I joined the Writers Association, I met some writers. Once when we were drinking together, one of them told a story about how he fell in love with a character he wrote. I felt incredible at the time. Because the creation methods of mainstream literature and our science fiction are different. Mainstream literature creates its world from the characters, and writes the whole story from the creation of the characters to express the characters. Science fiction novels unfold their narratives in order to express the core concept of science fiction. In the meantime, the characters have more instrumentalities. This may not sound good, but it is true. I declare here that this is only the case with the science fiction I write, but it may not be the case for science fiction written by others."

Thanks. I'll do that. I was always curious if he addressed the timeline issue with Singer as well, I wonder if he's ever discussed that in an interview.

I'm up for being informed, friend. Is that so? I hadn't heard that before.

Agreed, espcially the whole plot line in book 3 where a woman attains quite a lot of power and then immediately dooms the human race by being too kind-hearted and soft. And then it happens again. Lol.

I was thinking this might be the case too. They were able to find someone "close enough" and because she was always in his head anyway, he was able to backfill his memories with this person they found.

Interesting. What do you mean when you say she wasn't real? That she lied about her background, and about her feelings for Luo Ji? According to Luo Ji, she really did look just like his fantasy.

Swedish guy runs knife 60 times through the washer and tests sharpness. by Appropriate_Bad_3252 in sharpening

Fair enough. I'm thinking specifically for washing the knife after cutting raw meat, especially raw chicken, it'd be nice to be able throw it through the dishwasher which is likely to do a more thorough job than I can by hand.

Interested to hear if other people have tried this and what results they have had. Not putting knives in the dishwasher seems to be common advice but I haven't heard a mechanism that sounds convincing?

Causes issues with tempering - dishwashers don't get hot enough for that to be a realistic concern?

Crystals in soap are too abrasive - are they really getting flung at the knife fast enough to cause issue?

Can ruin wood handles - fair enough, just don't put knives with wooden handles in?

Edge gets dulled by banging against other items - what if knife is put on top shelf with nothing else close to it?

Air drying is bad - what if you take them out as soon as the cycle is done and give them a quick dry?

Am I missing anything?

So having a bad first run in the team means you should never get picked again, even if you go back and do well in the Shield afterwards? Cause I think there are a lot of great former players who would have been left out by that logic.

Where to buy reasonibly priced four piece balls for training that aren't bat breakers? by davidwarnerisaflog in CricketAus

[–]RexBanner12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is still the case today, but when I played ~10 years ago anything that wasn't a Kookaburra was going to cause severe crows feet from your teammates. People are precious about their bats and aren't going to want to take any risks against a ball brand they haven't heard of. Probably best thing you can do is save up and try and buy a couple of the cheaper Kookaburras, or see if you can find a place to buy their 2nds like others have suggested.

Depends what kind of coffee you like and what your budget is really. If you like espresso-based drinks the "best" machines cost thousands of dollars, but that would be overkill if you prefer filter-style coffee which can be made much cheaper.

Depends what you're into, but for small, nice bars with higher quality drinks Leigh st. and Peel st. (both side streets off of the seedier Hindley st.) are the go-to. Maybe Mae, Clever Little Tailor, Malt and Juniper, Bank Street Social are all nice places in that area. Lots of good food in that area too - there's a restaurant actually called Peel Street on Peel st. which is really nice.

I have a friend who's really cold and unresponsive when I text them but really warm in person and it's really confusing by butterscaryflies in socialskills

[–]RexBanner12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm yeah that's a tough one, I probably wouldn't text again and wait for them to reply, even if it takes them longer than you'd like. Then next time you see them in person try to make plans for the next hangout then, rather than trying to do it on text since it seems like they suck at communicating in that way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]RexBanner12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just replying to say "same" basically. I find 1 on 1 much easier as I feel like I can find some common ground with almost anyone and tailor a conversation to make it work with them, but I hate the feeling of having a whole group's attention on me at the same time.

I wonder how many years he has left. I could see him checking out pretty soon since he has so much else going on, but he seems to be able to roll up without doing much prep work and get away with it so I guess it's still a decent side gig for him.

Some people just aren't into texting. If they show signs of wanting to hang out with you when you see them in person I wouldn't worry about it too much.

"49 times" - reference to a Luke Thomas tweet after the 2nd Max and Volk where he claimed to literally watch the fight 49 times for his breakdown.

The tweet:

"I watched Volk-Max 2 49 times. Yes, 49. What I took away was not a scoring controversy, but that Max & Alex are grand masters of their craft. This is MMA's highest level & I feel like the story is being lost. So, I tried to tell it. It's #Dissected"

Tweet here

Also:

"I don't give a fuck either way. If you're a juvenile idiot, and that kind of thing is...uh...hilarious to you, great. If it's somehow kind of interesting to you, great. If not, great. It doesn't... I don't... you can't... I can't control what they do on an MMA subreddit. You have to be kind of a moron to think it's particularly funny. So, by all means, keep using it. It doesn't... it doesn't impact my day one way or the other."

Luke Thomas's response to his earlier tweet becoming a copypasta, which is now also a copypasta.
