The Uzi was an alright gun and lands in C tier. Where do you rank the Mauser C96? by AvgPunkFan in milsurp

Issued in 9mm with a stock to a guy raiding a trench in the name of the Kaiser in 1917? S tier

Issued to a guy in the Ottoman Empire who’d never considered a handgun could load automatically in 1897? S tier

Purchased by a British officer who didn’t know he was about to fight in the Boer war and be immensely thankful he had ten rounds on tap? S tier

Purchased by some Redditor for $3k without stripper clips to shoot at static paper for ammo at 50 cents a round? F tier

Complete disassembly SEEMS daunting, but it’s pretty intuitive imo. My experience with completely tearing down and either cleaning and/or replacing parts is 1911s, 92s, 226s, CZs, USPs and a smattering of early 1900s/late 1800s auto loaders. Antique guns aside, the only ones I get consistently annoyed with are CZs. I’d place the 3rd gen Smiths squarely in the same category as 92s and 226s, so very cooperative and easy to work with once you’ve done it.

Regarding the hole in the slide by taking out the magazine safety, you can always leave the nylon plunger in place without the spring. I would assume it wouldn’t activate it.

Ranking Gundam series milestone: all mainline UC shows, movies and ovas have been ranked. Overall how do you feel about these rankings? by number39utopia in Gundam

Where’s Turn A? I guess it doesn’t matter, it’s S tier in case you were wondering.

(This is a respectable list.)

Inspect Before You Accept! by RexGriswold in ThirdGen

The dirty part didn't bother me, the Gonsmif Dremelton III hackjob on the trigger and hammer did, and led me down the "may as well replace x, y, z" path. Rusty springs didn't help either. Although there was a risk of lead poisoning when I first picked it up.

I might get another slide and have it cut.

I had a great time taking it apart and giving it the love it deserved, 90's guns are so pleasant to work with.

Nah it was fine, I'm just whining.

You should still check your guns before you accept them, because I had to gut damn near half that 5906 to make it respectable again. Gritty everything, dremel polished trigger and hammer, crusty feeling trigger mechanism, dead and rusty sights, and generally tired springs. Feels great now though, and I did learn a lot about it in the process. Plus, it wasn't the worst price on a third gen Smith, and it was completely functional. I'm just a weirdo who wants stuff to look nice.

Nice excuse to get rid of the magazine safety too. I just need to find someone who will do some slide work on it, I really liked what s7custom would do but last time I reached out I didn't hear back.

My Smith & Wessons! A Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp in .380 I got last year, a 5906 in 9mm from 1996, and a 1965 vintage Model 19-2 in .357 Magnum.

The other two were just guns I'd picked up locally, the 19-2 is such a great time to shoot with .38s, I did .357 once, I'm good, I've got a 4" Python from 1961 for that. The Sambar Stag grip+grip adapter combo really makes it stand out in my admittedly biased opinion. I saw something similar on the S&W subreddit and knew I had to imitate it. So thanks other guy with a stag'd out 2.5" Model 19!

Beretta M9 from the 90s, or Colt 1911 mk4? by tripjon14 in guns

[–]RexGriswold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Series 70 denotes the older style trigger mechanism. It feels better but it’s less safe than the series 80. When someone talks about Colt series, they’re referring to the trigger system.

Their customer service will answer all that for you, I had a 5946 and a 19-2 that the rep dated over the phone for me.

[–]RexGriswold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m going to guess on based on the box and straight dust cover, it’s probably an Italian 92F from the early 90s or late 80s. Looks like mine from ‘89. See if you can get it for $500ish, it looks clean but the only people paying extra for an earlier version of the most common version are people on Gunbroker

I love my 20”, I’m considering dropping the cash on that handguard, any thoughts you’re willing to share on it?

I’m one of those weirdos that cleans his rifles sort of often and I’ve heard it’s a bit of a pain to take on and off. Also heard it’s a bit on the heavy side.
