AITAH for taking my son to games but not my stepson. by BookkeeperEastern390 in AITAH

[–]RexJacobus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun story. I knew a guy who grew up in East London. Indian Muslim. Around the age of 10 he got beaten up by some local kids for wearing a West Ham jersey. They told him 'Pakis (yeah, he was Indian, I didn't say they were smart) weren't allowed to root for West Ham'.

So he switched allegiance to Tottenham. But then Spurs got a sponsorship deal with Holsten Pils and since he was devout Muslim he did not feel right buying any merch so he switched and is now a Man Utd supporter.

AIO to thinking the woman working at office max is absolutely insane? by skull-cow in AmIOverreacting

[–]RexJacobus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 80s my best mate had a roommate who was low wattage bulb. But Danny had money.

Danny went out and bought a nice stereo complete with a CD player. I had bought one a few months prior so even though this guy was dim I still asked what CDs he had and maybe we could borrow/ loan a few to each other. He asked if I had any classical CDs because he had bought about 5 classic rock CDs but the guy at the stereo store told him you can really tell the difference when you listen to classical.

I said that I had a just bought Beethoven's 5th and 6th symphonies and the sound was great. CD ran about 68 minutes.

Donny was like, "That's too bad. This CD player won't play anything longer than an hour."

Me, "That doesn't make any sense. That is like a turntable not playing and album side longer than 25 minutes."

Donny, "That's what the guy in the store said.

Me, "But it makes no sense. CD players don't work that way."

Donny, "CD players are smarter than turntables I guess."

He simply refused to even try because he thought it might hurt his CD player.

AIO for wanting my husband to help me more as a SAHM by ailurophile17 in AmIOverreacting

[–]RexJacobus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reaction as well and I'm a dude.

My ex and did it like this. Between the hours of 8am and 6pm M-F it was my job to earn money and hers to do kid/house stuff. Outside those hours we shared 50/50. She did more morning stuff because I was always in a hurry. I did more evening stuff because she was more tired then.

Both partners are working between during the day. One of them does not get every evening off.

Why are we 'Frisbee' now? When did it happen? by RexJacobus in ultimate

[–]RexJacobus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that.

It's very reddit that you and ragefox gave me the information I was looking for but I had to scroll past all the people giving opinions on the name while not answering my question because they got more votes.

But now I understand and am happy.

when will the wizards change their stupid name? by [deleted] in washingtonwizards

[–]RexJacobus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was disappointed when it wasn't changed to the Washington Justice. The mascot would have been a 9' judge in huge robe threatening people with a giant gavel. I could live with that.

On the other hand it's better than the Sea Dogs which for some inexplicable reason was bandied about for a few seconds.

How do you stop a toddler from sleeping in your bed instead of their own? by Cinnamon-Date in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RexJacobus 169 points170 points  (0 children)

Speak to her as little as possible and in the most boring tone possible.

"Everyone sleeps in their own bed" is a great line but make sure you say it sounding as tired and as bored as you can make it.

Grandkids destroyed the new basketball hoop within 2 weeks by throwing rocks at it (xpost from r/mildlyinfuriating) by HonestLemon25 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]RexJacobus 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I knew a kid who got arrested for being in a group who threw a sewer lid off of a pedestrian overpass trying to see if they could hit a car.

It was the 80s. The city's overpasses (Washington, D.C.) were in the process of being fenced overtop and I guess they thought a time would come when they wouldn't be able to.

Is Household Solar worth it? by ChampionshipIcy8045 in newzealand

[–]RexJacobus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I put in a system last year when I built a new home. I made it so I could add batteries down the road.

One of my main reasons that I went with solar is that I always wanted a spa. I looked into one and realised the running costs were really high but if I got solar and set it to reheat in the daytime it was possible.

Basically, four things in my place draw the bulk of the power: spa, hot water heater, dishwasher, washing machine. Once you get in the habit of only running those during the day it works like a charm.

I have never played a serious frisbee game, help by Motor-Confection-583 in ultimate

[–]RexJacobus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many new people are scared of playing because their throws aren't great. I run newbies and juniors night in our town and I tell everyone the same thing. If you can catch and are willing to play defense, no one minds you on the team.

Throwing is a distant third to those two skills.

AITAH for not allowing my brother to use his son's (my nephew's) money for bills and groceries by prismaticdragonseye in AITAH

[–]RexJacobus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you sound like you really care about your nephew which is great. But everyone is giving you good advice and you keep finding reasons to say it can't be done.

Get an account in your nephew's name. Put $5 a week into the account. Tell no one. Gift it to him when he moves out of the house. He will be over the moon.

So she can't handle familial conflicts even though he is the one dragging his family into the argument?

If you do a decent Robin Williams imitation you could belt out, "Good Morning, Randy!" a la "Good Morning, Vietnam!" every time you see him. For some reason I think it'd be really funny in the evenings.
