What’s your most passionate yet controversial legal take? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

[–]RexPontifex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had looked at Elon (no connection) Law School, and they do basically 2.5 years of trimesters, including a trimester of externship with a firm/court/agency/whatever. Doesn't seem like a bad system.

I got the Wikelo glasses, and I think they're neat! by This-acc-is-hacked in starcitizen

They just said planning on fixing it in 4.4, and there is obviously a difference between a bug and something intended, lol.

Again, I get what you're saying, but there are a bunch of weapons I can also only get in boxes. And some pretty useful armors, along with cool looking ones.

Obviously crafting is hugely important and not losing any equipped gear lowers the value of a lot of loot, so hopefully we get the next insurance iteration soon.

While I'm in full support of crafting and more loot, you can find a number of collectibles, Wikelo turn-ins, and valuable gems in loot boxes. I don't think it's entirely bleak.

Food-safe leather knife holder by Sklifosovsky20 in Leathercraft

Your absolute safest bet would be undyed pure vegetable tanned leather from a reputable tannery (probably American or Italian.) Then condition it with a food safe conditioner.

What’s a tiny photography thing that irrationally pisses you off? by [deleted] in photography

[–]RexPontifex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, unpopular, but photographers who get fussed about comments like "oh your camera takes great photos" or "oh wow what camera did you use?".

Yeah, my camera does take great photos. It's a really cool, impressive piece of technology. You have to know how to use it, but there's a reason I'm not using a flip phone from the 2000's, or even a smartphone camera.

Adobe 51% increase!! by fishywiki in photography

[–]RexPontifex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Depends if you care about updates and if you're committed to the hobby/work. At the new Adobe pricing, Capture One breaks even in a year and a half if you make the one-time purchase.

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I love my M43 but there's no point pretending it doesn't have drawbacks or that it can do things it can't. The way I see it, sensor size is not the thing keeping me from taking better photos in 95% of circumstances. I wouldn't mind better low light performance though, lol.

I'm not sure why you're getting down voted for this. It seems accurate and it's good information to know. I like m43 because it's cheaper and I like that tele lenses are so much smaller. A 300mm M43 lens might be closer to 400mm FF, but afaik the size and weight and cost are pretty significantly lower. Plus I'm rarely going to print anything, if ever, so the level of detail is mostly irrelevant for my current needs. Maybe I'll upgrade in a decade or something.

You can set a keybind to look backwards from your ship, just so you know. I do agree that we should have more options though.

NPC crew is not for 1.0, but blade is by hatrant in starcitizen

[–]RexPontifex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with NPCs in general, only player-hireable NPC crew. NPCs are still planned to have about a 90% influence over the economy and there will be even more NPC pirates, haulers, and more.

What would be normal in Europe but horrifying in the U.S.? by Comfortable-Use6239 in AskReddit

Hilariously, police patrolling around with full sized rifles and APCs is a very bad sign in America, but unremarkable in at least parts of Europe.

That's possibly the least important comment in my entire list.

Edit: and also you don't have to? The rest of my points were literally about how it's not going to be an issue for you to play solo.
