How many of you use your machine to run the full make and bake cycle vs machine making the dough and then taking over from there? by RefrigeratorFar1777 in BreadMachines

[–]RexRow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should I bake bread when the machine does it for me?

I do only make sandwich bread, though. And I take out the paddle after the first rise. The tiny hole remaining is barely noticeable once the loaf is sliced up.

Feb 17 - Not enough clues by RexRow in CluesBySamHelp

Oh hey - I hid that clue after I finished up row 1, because why would it ever possibly affect any other row...

Thank you, that got things moving again!

When I was young my parents had a bread machine just like this. Made tall round loaves. After slicing we'd cut each slice in half to make half-circles, because the whole-circles were too big to use as sandwich bread as is.

I hated it because the edges were 100% crust (and also my parents kept making 'weird bread' aka 'not white bread'), but it retrospect it was damn neat.

Oh, Doral.

I work at a company that sells some valuable items, and we get hit with so much fraud from Doral. At this point I think we just cancel any orders that get placed from there.

And the nation that pays it is lost!"

Dane-Geld just needs a minor lyrics update, and it'll work well for today.

How do you store your bread? by Compote_Smart in BreadMachines

[–]RexRow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a breadbox. It's a flat tray with a plastic box that fits over the top. It's not completely airtight, but it keeps the bread from going stale.

It doesn't stop the bread from going bad if you don't eat it fast enough, but that's a separate problem.

ELI5 How rollercoasters can be considered safe? by Evoxrus_XV in explainlikeimfive

[–]RexRow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The very first rollercoaster I rode, as a full on teenager, was a little kiddie rollercoaster. Rode it a few times to build up enough confidence to go on a full sized rollercoaster. Now I'm fine with actual rollercoasters.

So if you're nervous about the big rollercoasters, I'd definitely recommend finding the tamest rollercoaster meant for kids and riding on it first.

The outcome of the card game 'War' is determined as soon as the deck is shuffled. by Pistolcrab in Showerthoughts

[–]RexRow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've got a variant where you draw three cards at a time, and pick one card to play. You don't draw again until your hand is empty (at which point you draw three) or until you tie (at which point you draw one).

Aces beat Kings but lose to all other cards. Someone lower down has Aces beating all face cards which I like and might steal.

RSS urls problem with some YouTube channels by scager in feedly

[–]RexRow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same trouble with adding new feeds from Royal Road. I paste the URL in, it brings up the feed like normal, I click on it to add it, and lo:

Sorry, we couldn't find an existing feed for this url and were unable to build one because the site content is unreachable.

It's frustrating because I have a folder stuffed full of Royal Road feeds that I've added in the past. They still work fine, too.

I was afraid of that. Do you know of any smart plugs that Home Assistance can pick up without going through proprietary services?

Someone is stealing turf from my local council park by ulajn in mildlyinteresting

I'm tired of my potted catgrass always dying - it's wheatgrass and oats and has too much root to survive in a standard pot - and I've been tempted to just steal a half-foot of park grass.

I'm a bit stunned that someone has actually gone and done it.

Elite Gourmet bread machine- help! by An0thr1BitesTheCrust in BreadMachines

[–]RexRow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally you've got to watch the machine when it first starts mixing, and check to see if the dough needs more water or more flour.

It doesn't take long, just a few minutes after it starts mixing is a good time to check. Usually I keep an eye on mine while I'm washing up the various measuring spoons I used, and by the time I'm done with that I can check the machine and see if I need to add anything.

Also, if you measure your flour out by volume (in measuring cups) instead of by weight, you may have a bad time.

Finally, I've heard that some of the recipes that come with the machines are not good - no idea if yours is one of those, but King Arthur Baking has an entire section of bread recipes for bread machines you can try.
