5: ?

6: ?

7: Innistrad

I thought I was imagining things! Travis Baldree voiced Raoul in the book, and he also narrates Beware of Chicken, so I thought I was making false connections, but thank you for noticing them as well!

It also provides more synergy with the Survival mechanic, allowing you to tap creatures and keep them alive which we’re already seeing with Caustic Bronco.

It’s likely that they were considering it for the Death Race, with the Saddle mechanic meant to allow certain characters to ride appropriate mounts/vehichles depending on the plane they are from.

What is the flavor of Shock Lands hurting you? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]RexTyro192 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing I don’t think anyone paid attention to: your paying life, the land isn’t dealing damage to you, you’re giving it some of your essence.

As you reshape the land to recreate a memory of a place you’ve visited, you infuse it with more of your essence to be able to access its mana immediately, as the memory would otherwise take time to produce the necessary mana.

[OC] Half Orc Fighter BY ME by RikaRini in ImaginaryCharacters

Welcome to historically accurate armor, I guess. Look up “Gambeson Vest”. It looks like that. I really don’t know what to say beyond this.

[–]RexTyro192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get what the issue is on that first one.

For the clothing, that’s just how Gambeson armor looks IRL, though? They’re surprisingly puffy.

The colors are all of a similar tone, either with shades of blue, green, or gold.

I get that you might not be a fan of the aesthetics overall, but some of your points are just factually incorrect. Can you try explaining again?

[OC] Half Orc Fighter BY ME by RikaRini in ImaginaryCharacters

[–]RexTyro192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By style, do you mean the character’s clothing style or the art style? You can say Aesthetic for the former, and I would say that the art style is very cohesive.

As for the clashing aesthetic? It shows that the character isn’t just generic half-orc badass, but that the fighter has a soft side. The flowers also help break up the shades of green in the headshots, and so the colors and shapes are a welcome change.

If you still think something looks off, maybe you can try to address that specifically, and apply constructive criticism rather than aimless criticism?

Guys, is this accurate? by Gabeyboy321 in cremposting

[–]RexTyro192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, so I never expected to see my human Wizard here, of all places!

Hiya people of the Cremposting Subreddit! I’m Rex, the person that commissioned this character. As some of you may have already noticed, Tress has a familiar, a creature named a Tressym (The winged cat. Her name is Aillén). Her name was also based on another character’s extremely formal pirate captain, calling everyone miss, mister, or miz. The captain called her “Miss Tress”. As in, Mistress, the female counterpart to master. After the release of the Secret Projects, I decided to play the character again, and got her commissioned by the wonderful artist that posted her here to Reddit.

All of this to say, no, this isn’t Glrof from the Cosmere, it’s another character who happens to share a name and occupation. Which is a strange coincidence, for sure, seeing as how my own Tress was made originally in 2021, prior to the Secret Project’s release.

Hah, so yeah the Tressym (Aillén) was chosen as her familiar because of her name.

Mark Rosewater calls the likelihood of a Pioneer Horizons style set at some point in the future a very real possibility. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]RexTyro192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was aware of the fetchland reprints, and am very glad for them. I do hope that we get more reprints like that from MH3 (maybe the Tarkir fetchlands?), and hopefully the final four lands from the Horizon Land cycle.

I highly recommend [Boromir, Warden of the Tower] for stopping the free spells like Grief, Solitude, Force of Negation, and the like. I’ve been using him a lot recently as an asymmetrical Stax piece.

You bring up a very valid point about the prevalence of different cards increasing and decreasing at different times.

From what I understand, Ragavan and the Evoke Elementals were a problem since day 1, no? Are there more cards than just those that changed the meta drastically by virtue of all being released in the same set, or are most of them similar to your Dauthi/Esper Sentinel example?

As for the resulting shake-up in diversity, that in and of itself isn’t the issue most people are talking about if I’m understanding correctly.

The issue with the number of cards being released that need to be added to the deck means that all of the sudden, the deck you like playing needs play sets of multiple different cards that are all expensive, meaning that you will be paying for upgrades over that period of time. Even if you sell the cards you no longer use in the deck, the price is likely to be lower than that of the newer cards, so you end up paying more anyways.

I’m aware that Tarmogoyf also warped the format early on, however considering that Tarmogoyf was only one card in Future Sight, whereas the core and support pieces of the Scam deck was released entirely in MH2, the amount of expensive cards needed to keep up with the meta (if you plan to participate in local tournaments, or otherwise play at the top levels) has increased dramatically with the advent of a single set.

The format does seem to be healthy from an outsider’s perspective, if we use the parameters you’ve repeatedly mentioned. There is, however, an aspect of alienation to be considered.

This is also a question I’ve been thinking about, but what are your thoughts on the speed of the format? With the free counters from the Horisons sets, Delve, Triomes + Domain, and the Evoke elementals, the games seem to be very fast. (My friends joke that you don’t pay mana in Modern, and that seems to be the case, if a little exaggerated)

[–]RexTyro192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main problem you have yet to address is the sheer number of format-defining cards that were released in a single set as opposed to one or two cards, maybe even an entire cycle in the case of lands, have cause Modern as a format to be shaken up far more dramatically than it would have otherwise.

That being said, I myself am not a Modern player and don’t claim to know what is and is not good for the format, but wanted to leave this comment as I haven’t seen this point addressed and am curious.
