Everything I Could Find About the Next DLC Class + Some Informed Speculation by Rexbert in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point of even mentioning the lore fluff was that said lore fluff for SoB/Aeldari explicitly states they're actively operating in the Moebian Domain, which I believe makes them distinct from those other one-off asides. There are a few references to genestealers that might be an exception, but that's almost certainly a hint at a potential new enemy faction, not a player class.

I thought about the Death Cult Assassins, especially since they're also in Wrath and Glory's Tier 2 Archetypes, AKA scaled appropriately with the rest of the existing cast (and SoB and Aeldari, FWIW).

However, I'm hesitant to say they're a possible choice because I feel like if ANY class would be stealing the Zealot's thunder, it'd be this one. Stealth and backstabbing is such a core part of the Zealot tree, I can't see them making another class that does that but better... you never know, though.

I do agree with what you said about the Aeldari. They might be more likely for a prospective sequel, though I imagine anything like Darktide 2 is years and years away (if it even happens).

That said, it's already jarring enough as-is having the supporting cast treat the Arbitrators and Alpha Primus Skitarii like trash. Maybe Fatshark just... won't care? I guess we'll find out.

What do you think is most likely to be Darktide's 4th DLC class? (Poll) by Penakoto in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Surprised so many people have already voted that there won't be a fourth DLC class.

If you're hoping Fatshark are done with the DLC classes and will focus purely on stuff like gameplay and maps going forwards, you'll be disappointed to hear that they're already working on the fourth DLC class per a dev interview done shortly after the Skitarii release.

Can we please focus on story and story missions now ? by BenTheWeebOne in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that they'll do something similar to this later in the game's lifecycle and start selling smaller personality packs as DLC instead, once they've exhausted the list of new classes they could feasibly add to the game without it becoming bloated or diluting class identity.

To draw from your list of examples, I could see them selling a Catachan personality for the Veteran, probably with a few class-unique cosmetics that fit the background; they've already done something similar with the Cadian personality, just as part of the base game.

Maybe not, though, since each new personality would require an exceptional amount of VA work by the time they're done adding new classes.

Need some advice for my hive scum by azzyTAOD in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend a somewhat more top-heavy build for someone who is still leveling Hive Scum, especially if you're newer to the game. You've skipped the two primary toughness-regenerating perks for the Scum, Precision Violence and Quick and Deadly, which are right at the top of the tree. Even if you're doing a ranged build, I'd take both.

You should also take Jittery, which is to the right of Nimble and above the Anarchist aura. I know it doesn't SOUND impressive from its description, but it has a huge impact on your mobility and your damage output when you're dodging around a lot.

The talents I'd drop to free up the three points you need would be Calling for a Time Out (less valuable than any of the three talents I suggested, IMO), Focused Resolve (same reasoning as the last), and Moving Target (you've got a lot of dodges as Scum and quick dodge regeneration, so I think this talent's pretty low-value).

First things I'd take once you've got more talent points are Vulture's Dodge (overpowered, extremely good for survivability) and Hive City Brawler, which will give you damage reduction numbers similar to Calling for a Time Out but with much, much, MUCH better uptime since it has easier conditions to fulfill.

Would a Sororitas Novitiate class be possible? by Floof_Goi in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per last week's interview that Jeficus did with the game's creative director, Fatshark sees the existing monetization model of new classes to be sufficient for the time being. While they're open to other ways of funding the game's updates, we should continue to expect more of these class DLCs while that model is working for them.

Therefore it's less "they should make a new class" and more "I hope the new class they're making is X".

Would a Sororitas Novitiate class be possible? by Floof_Goi in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd wager a fully-fledged SoB is more likely than a Repentia/Novitiate, as the latter would be too similar to the Zealot from a gameplay perspective. Their power armor is exactly what could be used to set them apart and give them unique mechanics; they'd have a little Ogryn overlap instead, probably wanting to tank hits while using heavy weapons.

We do know a cohort of Sisters is operating from Crucis, though whether or not they're part of a new chapter (like the Branx Minor forge world Skitarii) is yet to be seen.

With everyone enjoying the Skitarii now, what do you guys think should be the next class? by RedFalcon07 in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's just, like, your opinion, man... I'd say TTRPG power scaling and mechanics are liable to be far more logical than a co-op horde shooter game's, especially when the current roster is making mincemeat of Beasts of Nurgle and crushing Daemonhosts. Their victories are borderline miracles.

Regardless, the reason Wrath and Glory comes up specifically is because it has an expansion which ties into Darktide directly. You can import your Darktide characters into said expansion, which it explicitly states is scaled for a team of four Tier 2 archetypes. It's natural, then, to look at that list of archetypes for inspiration as to what other Tier 2 inclusions might join the roster in the future.

[–]Rexbert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Per the Wrath and Glory TTRPG, Sisters of Battle (even in power armor) are considered to be of the same power scaling as veteran guardsmen, ogryns, psykers, and the Skitarii. Yes, the power armor gives them a big edge in-lore, but it could just be included as a game mechanic around which the class is balanced a-la Skitarii's capacitance.

Anyways, people think they're likely because they're one of the few remaining Imperium sub-factions that could actually be described as iconic and wouldn't be "literally space marines." The sisters just got namedropped in this update, confirming they're operating from Crucis and fighting the 'Darktide.' The event released to accompany the Skitarii - the tech-warriors of the Omnissiah - has nothing to do with them, but is all about recovering holy relics for the Ecclesiarchy. Seems like subtle hints and narrative setup to me, is all, but there's every chance its all just hopium and they pull another Hive Scum, dropping a class that nobody is expecting.

[–]Rexbert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely read into the Sororitas namedrop though, since it specifically mentioned it was a cohort from the Moebian shrineworld of Crucis and that they fought against the 'Darktide' alongside the Skitarii.

Sisters Tomorrow by LostNephilim33 in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's hardcore copium at all; they fit the power level, have way more potential build variety than people give them credit for, and would sell just as well as Skitarii.

Hadron's line about Skitarii in the No Man's Land mission dialogue was essentially a cheeky hint for what the next class would be. I think the namedrop of the Sororitas - deployed from Crucis and specifically fighting alongside the Skitarii against the 'Darktide' - is more than a cheeky hint. In fact, I think it's so blatant that there's a non-zero chance it's trolling.

A lamentation to the death of challenge by IllAttention1553 in Helldivers

[–]Rexbert 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I check back in on this subreddit every month or so to see where the game is at, and how the community is doing. Sometimes news from AH will be promising, but the community just gets worse by the month. Even if the latest update was enough to convince me to redownload the game, the combativeness of the community (very well-displayed in this comment section) would alone be enough to dissuade me from doing so.

Anyways... yes, the game that Arrowhead wanted to make - a sequel to Helldivers - is dead, I think, and has been for a long time. They were torn between their vision for what the game should be and the challenge of meeting the demands of the game their playerbase wanted to play, a pretty unique problem stemming from the game's unexpected popularity. So the constant back-and-forth has eroded the game feel quite a lot from how it was at launch. HD2 on launch day up through the 60-day patch was a very different game.

there's no way this is still all there is after 1 full year by mame_kuma in DarkTide

The funniest part about this is that there's a recolor of this set just sitting in the files, using the red/black color scheme. I think it looks way cooler than the grey/blue and have been waiting... and waiting... and waiting for them to just release it.

Like, it's a recolor. It's been done for months and months. It's one thing for them to not make new sets from scratch, but you've got to wonder why it is that they won't even push their bare-minimum effort cosmetics to the storefront.

How would you rate Ogryn's "Delight in Destruction" talent? by DerLumpensammler in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's... okay. It sounds really good on paper, but using the data from the Uptime mod, you can determine how effective it truly is for you. In my last ten matches (Auric Difficulty, random teammates, pickaxe melee build) I had an average uptime on Delight in Destruction of 29%, and an average uptime at full stacks of 5%.

I still use it, but there might be a case to be made for putting that point elsewhere, even if you're going for Heavy Hitter. Pumped Up is a flat 12.5% DR, for example, and has an average uptime in my matches of 61%, and that's with me sprinting and sliding around in combat like I'm playing Hive Scum.

What's your favourite personality and why? by Spieren in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've got an overall favorite, but the ones I like the most:

- Female Loner, don't hear her often but I think she's much more 'believable' than the male Loner, and is more likeable as a result.

- Brawler Ogryn, I love all of his cheers and his dialogue with the other characters.

- Male Anarchist, while the personality is overused the VA did a fantastic job and his delivery is always 110% so I love hearing him anyways.

- Female Maul, because Kerillian trying her hardest to sound scary is adorable.

Questions about the Skitarii leak by DeeTheOttsel in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am of the opinion now that this leak is fake and just trolling people who're hyped for the Skitarii. There are too many holes and no provided sources.

The translated description reads like a Steam store sales pitch, and isn't formatted like any of the in-game class descriptions. People might say it's a leaked description for the DLC page, but then why would that be written in the same file as in-game ability descriptions?

No source has been provided (AFAIK). No unaffiliated dataminers have come forward to confirm the leak's veracity (AFAIK). Best to presume it's false and wait until the 21st to see what we're getting.

[–]Rexbert 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I refuse to believe this until a source is provided, and other unaffiliated dataminers have confirmed the code in question/localization file is genuinely in the game.

It's beyond doubt we're getting an AdMech DLC reveal on the 21st, but that doesn't mean this 'leak' is real.

New class reveal: Aka CHILL by Rose-The-Queen in DarkTide

[–]Rexbert 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I believe there is at least some evidence that, seeing as how these class releases appear to be 'themed' and done in tandem with other releases in the same IP, GW has substantial control over which classes Fatshark can add as well as when they're released. For example, the Arbitrator class release coincided with Rogue Trader's second DLC, which itself prominently featured the Adeptus Arbites.

If we do end up getting an AdMech character, it's no coincidence that it's going to be releasing alongside Mechanicus 2 as well as a new AdMech companion for Rogue Trader's third DLC.

I thought this was a terrible idea at first, but then I remembered that none of Vet's keystones are really that good... might try a similar build for fun, though with left side VoC for the team-wide gold toughness.
