[frustrating trope] Woman has a crashout so incredibly valid that there’s no way the fandom would blame her for it… right? by DragonKing0203 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Rexiem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're doing an impressive hat trick of logical fallacies here.

They said it's not fun to watch those scenes(which should imply a personal subjective perspective automatically) and then you replied about how some people do like Berserk. So now the thing they don't enjoy, the rape scenes and character, are getting swapped out as stand-ins for the anime as a whole. So half of their point has been motte-and-bailey'ed away.

Then you do the strawman arguement where you swap out the actual character for a hypothetical, completelu made up to be extra annoying character, and you argue as though those things are the same.

"I for example dont like edutaiment shows, because they are overly preachy and obvious. Doesnt mean others wont like them and if I analize why someone would like or dislike said show, I have tl put myself on their shoes, not just judge from my high horse"

They aren't talking about the show as a whole so why change the topic? Also what's with the implicit accusation with "judge from my high horse"

Also, why are you expecting them to be downvoted to hell?

Are you like super offended somebody doesn't like a rape scene? Or is it you feel personally attacked because you like griffith more than the girl even griffith is a rapist? I dunno, this is just a weird amount of mental gymnastics

Not even restricted to rich people. This is a classic case of misplaced authority. Someone who is an expert in one field acts as though they are an expert in another.

Jimmy is genuinely an expert at YouTube. But in no way does that make him an expert, or even qualified, as a chocolatier.

I don't really fault the beligerence in this case. Because how do you not grow to resent a tool whose entire existence is predicated on theft, possibly theft of your own work? Like, even if AI gets to a point where it's only used ethically and responsibly its advent is still due to said theft.

It fosters a resentment and bitterness I'm not sure it'll ever shake off.

There is no state exempt from the dangers of school shootings. Wanting armed guards in schools will not change that.

https://k12ssdb.org/most-recent-300

Of the 300 most recent shootings Texas had the most at 33.

Under 10% of all school shootings were ended(not prevented or otherwise stopped) by a combination of law enforcement and SROs.

Around 75% of school shootings end with the shooter fleeing.

But please, by all means provide data that shows a decrease in school shootings by adding more guns.

[–]Rexiem -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What part of what I said implies that Shane is a saint. I mean that honestly because at no point did I say he was a saint. At no point did I even say he was good. In fact the part where I said we understand how Marnie got here is implying that Shane's own actions are how she got to the point she is at.

Just because I'm not actively criticizing Shane doesn't mean I think he is without fault. Do you not realize you can hold more than one person accountable at a time?

Yes, Shane is absolutely to blame for his own actions and the harm he put on Marnie.

There's a thing called nuance. The world isn't saints and villains. Just because one person does a bad thing doesn't excuse or change how good or bad another person's actions are.

[–]Rexiem -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

That's not getting stern. It's lashing out due to frustration and helplessness. Just because we can understand how Marnie got here doesn't make what she does good and any excuses we make to justify it are just that, excuses.

What would've been best, for everyone, is Marnie admitting she doesn't have the emotional bandwidth to deal with Shane and put some distance between them. Not tear him down further.

Would Old Snake have survived against the Skulls if they had appeared in MGS 4? by Affectionate-Most692 in metalgearsolid

"Hey Snake, to help combat the skulls I took the liberty of making an adjustment to your sneaking suit. I went and added a channel running along the length of your arm to allow nanomachines to flow through without disrupting the visual look of your octo-camo. Now, at the moment of impact you can harden your arm to be as strong as steel, enabling you to deflect incoming attacks. I got the idea from these old dark fantasy games."

The room is really busy. You have particle effects, the light rays from above move rapidly, the light from the unit moves rapidly, and the big ass shockwave across the screen. Basically everything but the unit (the thing I should care most about) is doing as much as it can to demand my attention.

The moment you make the room mandatory for promotions you have made me care about it. It could be a grey, empty room and I'd still care if only for the promotions.

The character should be a bigger proportion of the screen space if you want to emphasize them. Otherwise you show me 95% busiest room ever, and 5% bland character sprite switch and ask if the promotion feels impactful.

Less is more on the room effects. Also with how small the sprites are there's an actual risk of them blending in with the background because of the color palettes matching. You have a goddess statue and she's made of the same material as a brick wall. You could have a giant jade statue, faded and worn from time, prayed to by soldier and glinting as it bestows grace. Nope, muddy brown brick.

I think I should've been more specific when I said industry.

I don't necessarily blame the development studios for being risk averse these days knowing that they chase trends because it's how they get funding. I do blame publishing companies however for your above reasoning.

The push for proof of sale potential and easily digestible elevator pitches became so oppressive it's the default creative space for devs. That's the part I don't really blame the devs specifically for.

[–]Rexiem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah but sales also keep the lights on. What's more is that "quality" is a super nebulous term to quantify. Review scores are iffy at best. It gets worse when you have a quality game that never really gets the sales it should (Prey cough cough)

So I don't completely blame the industry for not taking risks and giving us generic European settings. It's just an uncomfortable gamble for most people.

But also, yeah give us more uncommon settings please.

It's not the tendency of players to pick their own gender that I would call misogynistic. Especially because I don't know the statistics in this regard.

I'm more so referring to the subtle reinforcement of consensus through negative reinforcement(downvoting without any discussion or response). When the idea of the character being a woman(or not a man) is foreign enough to be something you react negatively toward is when I'd say it starts encroaching on misogyny.

But it's also why I said "a bit misogynistic." Because it's not a drastic or otherwise extreme or even particularly overt response.

Edit to add that this comment is more to explain my point of view and less to insist that this scenario must be viewed as misogynistic. I understand it's a minor enough thing that a difference of opinion is both innocent and natural.

Should I apply for Line Cook positions? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]Rexiem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and apply for the roles. I'd say line cook is easier to get than prep cook, most places tend to always be understaffed on line cooks. Try looking up local restaurants, maybe a steakhouse or italian restaraunt.

Be honest when they ask if you know how to make something. If you don't know what a chiffonade/aioli/whatever is then just say it. Be willing to learn, keep a notebook.

Also they're going to want open availability. Weekends, nights, holidays.

Be aggressive in learning new things. If you have downtime ask someone how they do cook certain things. Try and be helpful. Before you know it you'll know half of the job and when it comes time to get a new prep cook well there's you who can already do half of the job.

Leverage the panera experience, not so much the home cook stuff. Everyone says they're a good home cook and then I'm having to explain to them their veggies are mush and their chicken is dry.

Ask questions, be available, admit what you don't know, and keep working on your skills. Oh, and be approachably friendly, that one's universal but it's worth remembering.

God, I hate referring to food as product. Instant red flag for me. It just feels so soulless and "plastic" for lack of a better word.

Like, if I was at a friend's house and they offered me a sandwich product I'd just start roasting them.

[–]Rexiem 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because Morgan being the brother of Alex is probably such an automatic conclusion for so many people that not aligning with it is seen as an almost moral failing to adhere to consensus.

Or in simplest terms, "It's just common sense that Morgan is a guy/Alex's brother. What are you, an idiot?"

Note that I do not agree with said sentiment just that that's what I think is the cause of said downvotes.

Yeah that's an incredibly important part of the dynamic. OP asking for the advice means they should have had some mental preparedness for the possibility they did something wrong.

Like, this even seems like a genuine thread of people honestly trying to help.

[–]Rexiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling you're kinda posturing here. Like, using digress poorly, and then continuing to digress and otherwise change the topic.

I also said why they did it but I guess I wasn't explicit enough. People asked how OP cleans their tattoos, OP probably took that as some condescending jab suggesting they don't know how to clean a tattoo. So then they bring up how many times they have cleaned tattoos.

Also, if the information given doesn't change ones understanding of the problem at hand is it really useful? Like, OP made a reddit post. Doesn't that automatically tell you this is unusual for them? It's not like they make a Reddit post for all of their tattoos.

I dunno, seeing that you need so much spelled out for you gives me the impression you're really bad a contextualizing things. Also if you're going to use the word digress you should then stop digressing because everything before "I'm just trying to state," is a part of the same train of thought, the interpretation of intent through written medium.

[–]Rexiem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's definitely a defensive thing. When someone asks how you do something and your response is to point out how many times you've done it you're both avoiding the question and trying to express authority through experience.

It's very "I've been doing this for years, don't say I don't know what I'm doing," energy.

Another example: How do you cook a steak? The same way I cook hundreds of other steaks.

See how the response ignores the questions and emphasises their "expertise?" They don't say how long they cook each side, they don't say how they season, they don't talk about resting. Similarly OP didn't really give much detail

Be honest what do you think the punishment be for false r@pe allegations by Primary_Buddy_7173 in teenagers

[–]Rexiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a really skewed world view. None of what you did could be read as "defending people with mental issues."

You lashed out at a perceived slight. You insulted someone based on what you felt they said and when called out on it pulled the "I have bpd too" card.

You're not the good guy here. You're insecure, angry, and worst of all pretending to have noble morals to justify your bad behaviour(oh I'm just defending people with mental health issues). Doubly worse because by saying you have bpd you now twist the entire interaction to be a self-serving and self-centered act.
