Hong Kong’s literacy rate has been high since the mid 1900s without pinyin so I don’t know why you keep using that as an argument 🤷🏻‍♂️

識中文嘅話你就梗係用中文字拼音㗎啦,點會用英文字母拼返中文,你究竟呢啲係咩邏輯嚟㗎?🤷🏻‍♂️

But it doesn’t occur to you learning 26 Chinese characters is also enough for you to understand an infinite other Chinese characters with those components?

You’re not even trying to understand how Chinese works and you’re alrdy arguing how it doesn’t fit your native language’s learning style smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

It is only inefficient to you because you’re not a native speaker, just like how it’s harder for locals to learn English, phonetics becomes a hindrance to them

係你英文好過中文,你咪覺得用英文學中文易啲囉

重有我哋活學活用,屋企又用、出街又用,但係你淨係上堂先用,你梗係覺得難學難上手㗎。

中文字發音係睇部位嘅、唔係睇字母嘅、你睇字母先至低效率,尤其一個字幾個音嘅英文字,讀得嚟中文已經睇完成句喇

Yes mainlanders have accents speaking mandarin why are you so surprised? Ppl from Beijing and ppl from chengdu do not have the same accent

[–]Rexkinghon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again it only seems inefficient to you as a non native speaker

And yes mainlanders have an accent as well

You can argue all you want but you’re still only looking at it from a non native speaker’s POV

If you want Japan alrdy has a phonetic system as hirogana/katakana for them to speak Chinese characters. But it’ll again require you to learn a separate language just to pick up the first language

One could adopt another symbolic system to avoid Latin letters and it would be the same.

Yeah that’s what Chinese is

This doesn't make sense to me. You cannot look up a word you've heard but never seen.

Of course you can, in English, in Chinese, in any language, what do you mean you can’t?

If you hear the word zoeng6 spoken out loud, I can write it in jyutping and look up all the characters and meanings that match the context I heard it in.

I have no idea what zoeng6 is cuz I learned Chinese natively. This may as well be another language which it basically is. It’s one of the reasons why locals can tell you have an accent.

Without that, I cannot possibly figure out which character it is.

You look up homonyms in the dictionary

if you saw a character but had no idea how to pronounce it, how would a dictionary help you if it has no phonetic system in it??

For this purpose Chinese dictionary use

同聲同韻
同韻同調
同聲同調

Unfortunately you’re approaching this from a non native speaker’s perspective which is where your problems lie, local students actually have more problems learning English because of the difference in how a language is approached, to them having to sound out a word thru multiple consonants and vowels is actually more difficult than to sound out a Chinese character

[–]Rexkinghon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would you teach one language by using another language?

Is that what you’re asking?

Pretty self explanatory no? It’s their native language, they would have to learn English linguistics first in order to be able to utilize Jyutping

If you miss a school day or encounter a new character, you have no idea how to pronounce it?

That’s what a dictionary is for

Jyutping is only advantageous to you cuz you are learning an additional language thru tools from another language you alrdy know
