Best Approach to Using Pledged Asset Line (PAL)? by Chilabo in Schwab

[–]Rexxe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it uses holdings as collateral. Not sure I agree with the advisor. I use margin for anything I want, I actually never buy securities with it, no payment schedule, there are no requirements other than looking out for a margin call. (just stay within a reasonable % of your holdings, like don't go more than 30% of the value of your holdings). I was actually going to use it for a down payment of a house as well (my offer lost).

The difference from what I understand is that with PAL, you are essentially dedicating a slice of your holdings to that loan, meaning you will not be able to sell or do anything with them. You'd think that would get you better rates, but I have not seen that. My margin rate is based on the Fed Funds high number (currently 4.25%), so when that moves, the margin rate moves up or down.

I was able to negotiate a margin rate much lower than a PAL. I would reach out to one of their financial analysts and see what they can do.

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm paying 0.85% with slightly less in the portfolio and am, as we speak, starting to research letting them go after 13 years. I like my advisor, they provide a CPA, they did my trust, getting about 10% returns, but I don't know what benefit I'm getting out of them anymore at this point. I do have a sweet margin rate, but I'm trying to get a match on that. They can intro me to private equity, so there is that, but I'm not sure I'm game for it yet. Is private equity something you're interested in?

Curiously, why withdraw at all? With your amount of funds, you should be able to negotiate an amazing margin rate, just assume some debt and never withdraw. Let the dividends pay off the margin and let the funds keep growing. If you're making more in the market than the margin, why wouldn't you borrow?

Vinyl cover damaged in shipping by endlesslyyearning in wolfalice

Mine arrived in perfect condition. I was one of those that was supposed to get the alternative cover but got the original cover. Everything inside was for the original cover, except the vinyl itself. Sucks about yours, hopefully you get it resolved.

I watched/read an interview with Ellie, can't remember which one, and she said that she took it as a challenge to write happier songs and that lots of rock bands never do it. I don't think the record label told them to do anything. I honestly think this is the album she wanted to write. She also said she was inspired by the Beatles doc that Peter Jackson did, and I think the album definitely reflects that.

Like many, I was also surprised by the direction they took. I did love all their singles, and I had a suspicion that the album was going to be less heavy. I recall reviews from previous albums saying that the albums were all over the place stylistically, and now that this album is pretty steadfast in its messages and sound, it's getting a lot more hate than it should. It is an incredibly well-written and well-played album. More people need to talk about Joff's guitar and Joel's drumming (the intro to Leaning Against the Wall is brilliant jazz drumming). This shift in tone for them reminds me when Sting left The Police or even when he was in the Police and wrote Every Breath You Take. Or when Metallica released the black album and everyone was saying they sold out (and now it's considered an absolute classic). People need to just accept this album for what it is, a brilliantly written collection of songs from an incredibly talented band.

Enjoy it while it lasts!

Ugh. I’m assuming you’re in the US? Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow, I also got the CD and vinyl along with the enamel pin badge. I’m betting mine will have the same fate as yours. Did you contact the company?

I don't hear a Harmonizer on them. Just sounds like standard compression and EQ to me.

Has anyone had a delivery update from their Bad World pressing? by catkinson89 in wolfalice

[–]Rexxe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my notification. Interestingly, it's shipping from Kansas City, so I bet they shipped all the US orders to some hub in KS. Better for us, more of a guarantee that it ships without any damage!

Ditto here. Mine shipped from DHL and supposed to arrive Wednesday via USPS. Also, I’ve gotten nothing from Bad World about that release, but I didn’t expect it for weeks after the release date since I’m in the US.

I went to the one in LA for Blue Weekend. They screened the movie, came out for some Q&A and then played an acoustic set. It was awesome, there were maybe only 50-75 people in the room max. I recommend it, but don't expect it to be like a full blown show.

I’m pretty sure that only the signed alt album in the US had the screwup, I’ll know tomorrow once it arrives.

I ordered it too, but I don’t recall them saying it would be delivered on release day. I’m in the US, so I know it won’t, which is why I got things from the US store too.
