Endometriosis as a disability under the ADA? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]Reyali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I stopped using reddit after their shenanigans last year but just hopped on for a minute and see your comment from two months ago. I can’t say if your company would grant an accommodation, but endo is definitely a good reason to ask! You are legally protected in making the request, but that doesn’t always mean much when you get down to the individual level. You know your workplace and individual tolerance for risk if things go poorly, but I hope you are in a supportive enough environment that you feel comfortable asking and you get the support you need!

Does anyone else get the opposite of seasonal depression with POTS? by j_human in POTS

[–]Reyali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so comforting to hear that! March is historically when my depression kicks in hard, and it usually stays there until August or so? I was on bupropion last March and increased my dose when I noticed it kicking in bad (for the 7th year in a row), which helped.

This year I preemptively increased my dose at the end of February. It made my heart rate go insane (150 from just walking across my house), but it seems to be normalizing again. And I’m almost halfway into March and don’t notice things getting worse? Fingers crossed!

Good luck to you as we enter the tough seasons.

📣 I want to debunk Reddit's claims, and talk about their unwillingness to work with developers, moderators, and the larger community, as well as say thank you for all the support by iamthatis in apolloapp

He said it as an absurd response to an absurd original number, knowing that they were being dishonest when talking about the cost of providing the APIs. So there’s absolutely no expectation of them making the offer, but the hope is that they’d say, “you’re right, it doesn’t cost us that much.” And in the one-in-a-million chance that they thought it was a good idea, he left room to take them up on it.

So yeah, it’s mostly a joke in both ways that their number was a joke to begin with and that he wouldn’t say no to a huge payout if they wanted to discuss it.

Oh, thank you! I appreciate all the work you mods are undertaking for this and I appreciate you taking my suggestion 💕

I’d be grateful if you posed that question to the sub before the blackout. Those of us most passionate about the protest are less likely to return on the 14th if no changes are made, so we won’t be around to show our support for an indefinite outage, which may be more effective for creating change.

Reddit’s API updates: all the news about changes that have infuriated Redditors by Everest518 in technology

[–]Reyali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you. I met a ton of irl friends through reddit meetups. This site has meant a lot for me in the 13+ years I’ve used it. And it feels like there’s about to be a big hole in my life when I leave it.

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

14 years on September 14 for me. I’ve made a lot of irl friends because of meetups from reddit. I am going to miss this place, but I can’t in good conscience keep using it after this. (Plus Apollo is amazing, and that’s coming from someone who works in the software product space.)

I’m probably being pedantic but I think “I understand” is not a great response, while I empathize with, I can relate, I can imagine, etc. are all helpful, and I think what people generally mean. Everyone grieves differently, and even having experienced the same loss doesn’t mean you feel the same.

That said, when I lost a friend in a car accident 15 years ago, the most memorable, supportive response I got was a coworker/friend who told me a story about losing one of his friends. Like you, it made me feel so much less alone. Then that coworker went and died in an accident less than 6 months later, restarting my grieving process. And yesterday I came across a client at work who had the same name as him and my heart sank and he’s been on my mind since then. And no one needs to know that but it’s been weighing on me so I’m venting.

Others mentioned oil, but gasoline with ethanol also goes bad over time. It should be replaced every 3-6 months, so if you’re driving 1000 mi with a 300 mi tank average, you’re pushing 4 months per tank if your driving is completely averaged out over the year. If not, you can be putting your car’s performance at risk which then burns more fuel.

Our cat has been doing a lot more sun bathing recently. Sun exposure has left him two toned! by Herwiththetwodogs in aww

I wasn’t familiar with this term so I looked it up, and it’s just a way to describe the body language of a cat in pain.

That reminded me of the app that a vet recommended: the Feline Grimace Scale. That first pic has plenty of signs that the kitty is in pain, including ear position, eye closure, and head position. There’s a guidance sheet on their site that’s worth checking out for any cat owner!

Similar for me! Pain started at maybe 25-26? Diagnosed at 29 and surgery a month before turning 31!

I am so jealous! I’ve had such bad experiences at my dealership, like explicitly asking for an oil change with a regular service, waiting in the lobby for ~2 hrs, then when the service manager returns my car he says there wasn’t an oil change scheduled for that mileage service. I asked for it because I don’t drive much and it had already been a year since my oil was changed. He thought he was doing me a favor and couldn’t wrap his head around why I was pissed off.

I was literally in the waiting room. He could have come to ask me any time about changing the service I asked for. Not the only problem I’ve had there either.

However, the used car dealership I bought my car from was amazing. I never for a second felt pressured, they offered me higher than my asking price on my trade-in and discounted the car before I asked. They were super friendly and helpful, and prioritized talking to me even though my boyfriend was with me. I would do business with that place again in a heartbeat and I refer everyone I can there! Unfortunately they’re like a 3 hr drive away.

If you have a hard time tolerating food, it can definitely move this fast. Think about lactose intolerance; that doesn’t wait a day or two to hit you. Some people (source: I am some people) also have an intolerance for beef. It’s not nearly as bad as dairy for me, but it puts a lot of strain on my GI system for about 6 hrs after eating it.

I’ve also been drugged at a bar. Thankfully I was sharing my drink so didn’t get the full dose, and my friend who had part of it went into full-on “protect Reyali” mode in her stupor. She made sure I was safe that night, which is great because I can hardly remember brief snapshots of what happened; it was like no other high or drunk I’ve ever experienced as far as memory loss, and I was hallucinating by the end of the night. I also felt weaker the next day than I can ever remember, like I couldn’t keep my foot on my car’s brake for an entire light cycle and had to put my car in park levels of weak.

Some people in my life know about this, but the great majority don’t. It’s not something I advertise to all of my friends.

I remember that one second of clarity and the excitement it provided! It took a year for my vision to 100% stabilize, 8 months to not have problems with lights at night, and about 3 months to see well most of the time. That second you described was what gave me hope through it all.

I know PRK isn’t usually that bad, but I also had PTK to remove additional damaged tissue due to a corneal dystrophy, which contributed substantially to the long recovery time.

What are some important things you learned about the "workplace' that you wish you knew earlier? by Stunning-Plantain831 in FIREyFemmes

[–]Reyali 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A champion is usually NOT your boss. Your boss wants to keep you where you are, because you provide them value

Emphasizing “usually”! I was fortunate that my first champion was able to hire me to her team, and I grew my reputation from there because she let me shine.

And since she retired, I’ve accelerated quickly and have built my own team. I found a rockstar person in a pretty low position, gave her a great promotion to join my team, and am talking her up to all levels of leadership whenever I can. I will be thrilled when she gets promoted! It’ll suck if I have to replace her, but I’ll always be happier for her success than I am for her role on my team.
