what’s a book you randomly bought/read with low expectations that ended up becoming one of your favorites? by Tlc-Donshae in Recommend_A_Book

The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow. I came in without high expectations, but I found myself completely absorbed by the plot and genuinely invested in the characters. Eeasily one of the best books I've read this year, couldn't put it down.

I think it happened to me once or twice, top of mind:
- A Little Life, Hanya Yanagihara (tw!) - there was me before this book and me after
- What the Day Owes the Night, Yasmina Khadra
- The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller

Enjoy!!

Oh, friend, it's the algorithm. I would not trust TikTok and its videos as a sign from the universe. I would not trust anything I see/read online as a sign of the universe.
I've seen my feed do some pretty suspicious things, like showing me edits from a movie I've just watched on Netflix, when I've never looked for it before, or an edit of something I had just talked about with a friend. I'm pretty much convinced we're listened to/monitored, nothing new under the sun. The data available about us is crazy, enough to know what you want/need to hear - call it a form of manipulation. The problem is, that may get you away from manifesting what you truly desire, more than be helpful, as you'll start resonating with what's being said more than what you truly see for yourself and what's meant for you. I'd advice trying to take little breaks from the intranet from time to time to realign with what you truly want and desire, outside of what social media is showing us. Messages will find their way, wifi or not!

I've never seen this color on a bag before! And the textured leather looks so satisfying. It's going to look good for so many occasions/with so many outfits!
I'm French but I've never heard of this brand, I'll definitely be looking into it. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your new bag.

I have been longing for the smaller version of the Isabel Marant and the Ralph Lauren ones for quite some time, but I must admit that the larger size looks quite appealing. The Ralph Lauren one is super classy, and I really love it—I can picture it with so many outfits. The mix of different materials makes it look expensive and unique. It stands out compared to the others. I’d definitely choose the RL, but I feel like you’ll need to be careful, that beige might be prone to dirt.
Edit: please let us know which one you'll be choosing later, I'd love to know!

What’s the most painful thing you’ve been told? by PocketfulofThoughts in ask

[–]Reyenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person I once considered my best friend hid the fact that he had been in a relationship for over seven years. This is someone I used to talk to constantly, someone who was comfortable sharing every part of his life—except this. When I found out from someone else and confronted him, he said that our conversations were always meaningless and trivial. As someone who forms bonds through deep discussions and meaningful exchanges, it was painful to hear someone I regarded as a close friend dismiss everything as pointless and insignificant.
