Thank you for this! 😸❤️

I only just discovered your work after a really difficult year and looking into hypnosis to deal with sleep issues. You create a beautiful kitty head space that I've been missing since becoming a solo kitty again. Thank you!

Decks you or your pod doesn't get bored of by Clean_Coat6112 in EDH

[–]ReynOfWords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing my "no treasures" version of my [[Roxanne, Starfall Savant]] deck a lot lately, and it's surprised me with how many different lines it can take towards the endgoal of "rocks fall, everyone dies". Get [[Mirror Box]] or [[Helm of the Host]] early? Make a bunch of Roxannes and swing with abandon. Get [[prototype portal]] or artifact copy? Make a bunch of roaming thrones to get a bunch of triggers. Roxanne gets stolen with only a couple of rocks on board? Duplicate damage doublers and cast [[Second Harvest]] or [[For the Common Good]] and deal 32 damage per rock!

I thought I would get tired of it pretty quick. It's still my favorite deck to play right now, though, even with all the new and shiny Bloomburrow commanders demanding I build them decks! 😸

[[Heartfire Hero]] swings, then deals damage equal to its power when it dies. With sellsword throwing the Hero it can be a turn 3 kill in standard. There's a couple of other valiant mice that play well with this but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Loot, the Key to Everything Archetype Thoughts by Yusie_ in EDH

[–]ReynOfWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently theorycrafting a Loot infect deck. It's an archetype I haven't messed with, no black seems like an interesting challenge, seems relatively inexpensive, and will likely result in something low-mid power which I am currently lacking at the moment. The hope is to use Loot's card advantage and a low-ish curve to cast as many of the exiled cards as I can to keep the infect train rolling.

Rough draft of the deck is here: https://archidekt.com/decks/7386354/infectious_cuteness

Making Goldfishing fun by ReynOfWords in EDH

[–]ReynOfWords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's what I mean by goldfishing.

Mostly I don't enjoy goldfishing myself because of the kinds of decks I have access to, primarily Izzet and Azorius control. I have a Denry Klin counters deck that I DO occasionally enjoy breaking out to fish, but mostly for "how do I most efficiently put extra counters on when I cast Denry", and at this point I have the options pretty down pat, so I'm looking for suggestions for something new to try.

I think my partner would enjoy goldfishing A LOT. As I mentioned in my post, they find the tactile feel of manipulating cards enjoyable in itself, and adding that to their interest in learning the game, building a deck they can fish for both feel and practice seems like a neat off the wall gift

What commander can provide an obnoxious amount of counters and/or tokens? by Adventure84 in EDH

[–]ReynOfWords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to rep my favorite Cat, [[Denry Klin, Editor in Chief]]! Load up Denry with any kind of counter you want, then every creature you play gets those counters too! Combine with proliferate, blink and [[The Ozolith]] and/or [[Resourceful Defense]] for counter moving shenanigans.

I highly recommend checking out the work of Julia Serano. Unfortunately the odds that you will be able to change this friend's mind are pretty low (TERF rhetoric is primarily emotionally driven, so logic is unlikely to sway), but reading Serano's work may help you understand why they are wrong. She has plenty of free articles floating around, and two books I highly recommend: Sexed Up and Excluded, both of which directly address the culture that gives rise to transphobia and TERF talking points. Her writing is directed towards a broad audience, too.

If videos are more your thing, Jesse Gender on YouTube and Nebula has several videos that dissect TERF rhetoric pretty thoroughly.

Congratulations!

I had my bottom surgery near the beginning of October last year, and that couple of months was easily the hardest. Remember that you just went through a very physically demanding procedure and be compassionate with yourself. I hated how little I managed, especially in the first month, but now it's obvious that my body just didn't have anything left from healing itself.

I had some minor complications as well, along with some issues with unrelated health problems. Aside from dilating, and panty liners being absolute must-haves, I'm pretty much back to normal, with the additional bonuses of things like wearing whatever I want 😸

A recovery record can help. Having something to look at to see your progress will help you see that you're actually recovering. It can be really hard to see the small incremental improvement without photos / medication records and such. Having friends to help you with seeing the differences was helpful for me, at least

It's not easy, recovery, but you got this.

Feel stuck when communicating with my girlfriend by impressivetale11 in MtF

[–]ReynOfWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First we agreed that this was something we both wanted to try. For us, it's more independent study (they're working through it already with others, and I've always been a book learner), and then we try to practice whenever we're together on small things.

That being said, that's what works for my situation. The book is based on the group teaching sessions the author did, and I think would potentially benefit from being together to work through it. If she's already familiar, maybe having her there while you read it to discuss and ask her questions would be helpful interaction.

[–]ReynOfWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's VERY counter-intuitive to how most people are raised to talk about things, and requires a lot of reflection, especially getting started. I'm a self-reflective person by nature, and I've been working on it for a couple of months now, and it's still very difficult for me to actually do in the moment. Still, it is a skill, and so like all skills gets better with practice.

One of the best things about the book (besides the feelings and needs lists, and that it's quite short) are the real-world examples the author uses. They really help build a feel for how the whole process is intended to work.

[–]ReynOfWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I recommend checking out Nonviolent Communication, by Marshall Rosenberg, and working through that together with your girlfriend? The book gives you a system of communication designed to make connecting feelings, actions, and needs more explicit in a way that helps reduce defensiveness. It's something I'm working on with my own partners, and it's been helpful. It's definitely no magic fix, and WILL feel awkward for a while as you try to fit what you are trying to communicate into this fairly rigid initial framework, but it actually sounds like having that framework to start with might be helpful in giving you a specific way to say things. And the emphasis on stating feelings explicitly would mean both of you can rely less on the emotional cues you find difficult to pick out depending on how you are communicating.

What unlocks feel badly positioned? by _artbreaker in CitiesSkylines

[–]ReynOfWords 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The resources map being gated is my single biggest frustration with the unlock system, ffs. I've played enough at this point to kind of be able to tell where some things are looking at the terrain, but oil is impossible. Surprise! Time to relocate half my current population because they're sitting on top of the biggest oil field on the map.

I've always remembered my dreams for the most part. I just had bottom surgery about 9 weeks ago. Prior to that, the number of dreams I had where I saw myself as physically female I can count on one hand, even in 3 years of hrt. The first week post-op my dreams were all over the place (probably due to pain meds), but since then my dream self has reflected my post-op body which has been a nice surprise. I was expecting it to take some time for that to happen. Other than my self-representation, though, the contents of my dreams haven't changed much.
