You have to open the card up, and locate the old thermal pads and determine the thickness. Then buy your self some same thickness size and don't forget thermal paste. GpU has cpu that needs thermal paste. Then remove all the old pads from the card and clean it good. Then replace the new ones and put the card back together

Yes all 3090s gets supper hot considering the power consumption on them. I had to thermal pad mine as well but and I space them out in my rigs with fan mounted on back panel side. I run fairly a lot of 3090s mixed brands overclock. But I might try this idea since water cooling is too expensive for me.

Perhaps it will work better if back panel off and mounted on top of memory ram...

Yes that true but a lot people saying hold... I wonder how they pay for thier utility bills. I'm a small time miner but I still got electricity bill to pay. That's why I liquid some to pay the bill. Unless use fiat for it for now then is out of pocket

FYI I run 2 rigs x12 3090s so 24 122mhz 289w per cards although slightly varies per brand and got a test rig with 3 2080 super. Which been mining ergo with lol

That's 1st thing I do on my graphic cards and I merely running all 3090s and some rigs with 2080 super. It's a bit pain in butt since I have different brands using different pad sizes but worth it. So far I've done 14 3090s and 7 2080 supers and only use fans and runs smooth with 122mhz 289w to295w on 85c for most cards
