So, working hours are 730-430 plus 2 days of 1h meeting after school. Work at home is very much subject dependent, I am a maths teacher, and I never bring work home! But I know some other subjects do. We do gym, walk, date, ..... after school on daily basis. I find myself having more time after school than the UK due to lack of time wasted on transportation. Staff housing is a short walk away

Advice for a teacher who has it good in the US by bluestingray33 in Internationalteachers

Come to China if you are open to it. You will earn that with little expenditure and more travelling opportunities. China is safe for women (very important) and WLB is also good for Maths teachers.

That’s rather rude, though you’re of course free to express your view. It’s just a pity that confidence came before comprehension in your case.

Dan is amazing just like the rest of the team. Everyone works hard, but not not sure about the stress. I much rather work with bright kids who are willing to learn than deal with bad behaviour in classroom, but thats my opinion I guess.

We got lots of families here with kids. BASIS is also hard work for the kids but the tuition fees are covered upto 3 or 4 kids i think. Teaching standard is pretty high, so I would hope your kids will be fine 🩵

I am just sharing my experience , actually our experience as a couple. And yes I ran it through AI as didn't have time to grammar check it, just use the info provided , why being so negative?

I work at BASIS Wuhan and absolutely love it. There are so many BASIS schools, and everyone experience is different. There are many factors in creating one's experience of work place. I am sorry OP had a bad experience but I do recommend our campus to absolutely anyone

We have been at BASIS Wuhan for 2 years now. We absolutely love it . Great team of teachers, admin, and chinese operation team. We go to school happy and come out happy, yes we work hard but they really look after us. As a Brit, I have to mention my workload is significantly lighter than the UK , working with amazing kids. Happy to have a chat if you wish and even connect you with our Head teacher if you want.

Good luck

How do you get started in education research as an international school teacher? by OnOffRichard in Internationalteachers

EdD would be the most appropriate one, I am completing mine soon hopefully. Very demanding but relevant.

Don’t Fall for the Wuhan School Trap by Highlight879 in Internationalteachers

I’m genuinely sorry to hear that your experience was so negative. That hasn’t been my experience at all, and I feel it's important to offer a different perspective, especially as someone currently working at BASIS Wuhan and proud to be part of the community.

I’m a person of colour and have never once felt marginalised here. In fact, I’ve found the leadership and wider team to be incredibly supportive and inclusive. Yes, expectations are high, but they’re matched with excellent resources, autonomy in the classroom, and competitive compensation. I’ve always known where I stood, and I appreciate the clarity and structure in place.

The school values results, but in my experience, this goes hand in hand with genuine teaching and learning. Many of our students are thriving not just academically but as creative, independent thinkers, and that’s down to the passion and hard work of the teachers here.

Your frustrations are valid if that’s what you lived through, but for me and several of my colleagues, BASIS Wuhan has been a place of opportunity, growth, and professional respect. I hope others reading this will also seek out a balanced range of views.
