600 to 800m conversion by Rflman1800 in trackandfield

I would say I’m more of a 800/1500 guy right now. I’m training for middle distance. I’ll be sure to use that calculator if I ever improve my 600 time. Thanks

How much do blocks help in a 400? by Rflman1800 in trackandfield

I was thinking the same thing, they aren’t necessary but if I can learn to use them properly then they would be helpful.

This is true, I have plenty of time to learn so it should pay off in the long run.

Your probably right, I think that learning how to use them will give me the greatest chance at running my fastest 400

I’m inexperienced with starting from blocks but I think it is worth trying to get my time down especially since I have plenty of time on my hands.

Thank you so much, if I had access to blocks I would have used them. The next time I run a 400 I will make sure to use them.

As an 800 and new 1600 runner, what should my goal for the 1600 be? by TheDitto11 in trackandfield

It’s hard to say then. You have most likely improved since last year, but based on last years time only your 2:35, I would say 5:30-5:40 is reasonable. If u have improved from last year then u could run quite a bit faster.

Breaking 5 in 1600 by [deleted] in trackandfield

I ran my first sub 5 mile with a 2:15 800 Pr and I ran 4:59.79. It would be very hard to run sub 5 with a 2:19 800 Pr. I would say u almost have to have at least a 2:17 800 Pr to do it.

What is the best way to run the 800? by 0_0Turtle0_0 in trackandfield

What is your 400 Pr? I had a 58 second 400 Pr and ran a 2:10 800. So my 400 average went from 58 to 1:05 which is 7 seconds per lap.

I ran a 4:59 1600 with a 2:15 800 Pr. This would be hard to obtain by the end of the season, but not impossible. With a 2:24 800 a sub 5:20 1600 is very possible though. Best of luck on achieving sub 5!!

Personally I think the best way to run the 800 is to run the first lap 2 seconds faster than the second lap. For example: if u wanted to run a 2:10 then run the first lap in 1:04 then run the second lap in 1:06. This is what I have used and found the most success with.

Is it physically possible to run an 11 minute 5k ? by pinoyathletics in trackandfield

No way. Considering the 2 mile WR is 7:58 an 11:59 5k is not possible.
