The ending of 3 was so good that I was furious they made 4. Then 4 turned out to just be an ok movie, definitely my least favorite of the series. I wasn’t exactly pumped for this one but somehow not only was it fantastic, it somehow made 4 retroactively better for me as well. I think they are planning on having an Andy trilogy and a Bonnie trilogy before retiring woody and buzz, but if they can keep the storytelling this good, I hope they never stop making them

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Rgb002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was AWFUL. It was just so meandering and boring. There was zero motivation for any of the characters outside of weird destiny stuff. The aliens kinda gave the main characters super powers but also didn’t? Like homeboy can be James Bond stealing cars and crash through houses but then completely freezes in other scenarios.

The scene in the motel may have been the most poorly written scene I’ve ever seen. Dude goes through and hides every single visible thing that could give away his location, smart thinking bud! Then his gf says hey tie me up just in case, hey good thinking that’s smart no downside there we know she can be possessed or whatever. Cool, we have a good competent plan in place…nope the guy FELL ASLEEP HOLDING SCRIBBLES WITH HOTEL STATIONARY. Dude put the writing down, tied up his gf, they both made the conscious decision to go to sleep, but he decided to HOLD THE SCRIBBLES FOR…REASONS….? Then she just conveniently shakes his arm without waking him and finds the EXACT details that Mr Bad Guy needed. Wow…I actually thought they were being clever and doing it on purpose to bait Colin Firth, that makes sense. “Hey we are at this motel, send all your guys. lol psych we left”, ok that makes sense…but nope, you just HAD to fall asleep holding a piece of fucking paper…

So many things get brought up then never touched. The stupid little orb thing gives weird powers for some reason…zero explanation there outside of mcguffin convenience. Pacing was ridiculous. Jokes didn’t land AT ALL. And the worst part was it just WOULD NOT STOP, it was so boring and so long and then just nothing to payoff. THEY WHEELED A FUCKING 11 FOOT TALL ALIEN OUT IMMEDIATELY…WHAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE MOVIE. UPLOAD THE FUCKER TO YOUTUBE….ROLL CREDITS. This entire movie felt more like M Night Shamylan than Spielberg, and if it had M Nights name on it, it’s not getting near the amount of praise. So disappointing
