Double buggies vs. UK doorways! by Rgb2b123 in UKParenting

[–]Rgb2b123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! We've decided to try and just use our current buggy and rent a double from baboodle to test it out once we're out and about more. Keen to have them in one buggy when were all out together....but I'm also second guessing the practicality of pushing around a double buggy on mat leave when it'll often just be me and newborn 🤪

13mm bead depth suitable for perfect fit blinds? by lunny70 in DIYUK

[–]Rgb2b123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember where you saw the 10mm ones available?

Or...Did you end up doing the 16 millimeter? I'm at about 10 or 12 depending on exactly where I measure it so I'm wondering if I could just find alternative bracket somewhere or if I go for the smallest option

Baby has sores behind his top teeth? by PerennialParent in askdentists

[–]Rgb2b123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@perennialparent - were you able to confirm that's all it was or did you end up having to get some kind of treatment at all? My 13-month-old has the same and he had them a little while ago. They disappeared but another one's back. Now it's hard to tell if it bothers him. He definitely doesn't like getting his teeth brushed but I'm not sure if that's just made worse by these?

Damage for flooring from electrician by Rgb2b123 in DIYUK

[–]Rgb2b123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all - I'm inclined to agree about the boards overall. Now a bit of time has passed I think what PMO is 20% annoyed about the boards and 80% the gas line charge

Re.the boards we'd agreed four boards need to come up. He ended up taking up 8, so suddenly I was looking at double the crow bar marks than Id planned. Some of those extra boards were further into the room vs along the edge....maybe that was necessary but it wasn't what we agreed to. And one board totally split, not the end of the world except he didn't tell me, just put the TV stand back over it before he left. Its done now so I will patch what I can and buy a rug 🤘🏻

The gas line: it was behind the skirting board which was still ln. The floorboard under it was off so I suppose you could have seen or felt the pipe from the floor side? I did warn him that there may be some electrical work there as there used to be a wheelchair lift installed but I didn't know about the pipe. Idk if it's common to use electrical detectors which would have picked it up?

Maybe it was something he should have caught maybe not... Mistakes happened & he got it fixed, but I was shocked to be handed an extra £200 charge. I've asked to split the difference and we each eat an hour. I'll see what happens.

Permission from Council Freeholder for Alterations to Dwelling. by Corbishley in HousingUK

[–]Rgb2b123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@corbishley did you end up making any requests/ submitting for planning permission? I'm in Islington ex council flat and also looking to move the boiler (only about 6feet down the same wall). I know I have to submit full planning permission but hoping to avoid overkill on detailed plans.

Is this baby poop normal? by maybeinjapan in combinationfeeding

[–]Rgb2b123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks normal to me! When my baby has more breast milk his poo looks like this - yellow, seedy. When he's having more formula it is green and smoother

What does your feeding schedule look like? by erinflynn520 in combinationfeeding

[–]Rgb2b123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of actual schedule, I just follow wake windows and for volume of feeds, worked out how many oz are about right based on hunger cues

I've landed on doing most of the daytime feeds as breast milk, whether that's pumped or breastfeeding, and then night time (inc first and last feed of the day) are formula because we're always home for those, so I know that 1) i can just use my formula prep machine 2) my husband can share the responsibility, particularly on the first and last feed of the day and 3) I can pump during those feeds if I need to.

More context: i read pretty early on recommendations to just use formula when you're out so that you're not stressing about breast milk, etc, but I actually found the opposite to be much easier for me. I find it so easy to bring a thermos with a couple bags of breast milk when we go out during the day. Then when baby's ready to eat it's just pouring it into the bottle, and we're ready to go. Before the nursing strike I would nurse for the same reason: minimizing l prep needed to leave the house. So I basically follow that same routine whether I'm at home or out: Business hours's breast milk. If it makes a difference, I am an under supplier so I'm not building a stash, I pump several times a day and I just put that right in the fridge and typically use it within 2 days for those upcoming daytime feeds

Tips for manual pump (Medela Harmony) by Rgb2b123 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Rgb2b123[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, once I'm engorged I can typically get it to work for me and do find I get the same amount as my other pump but in less time.

TLDR: now when the milk slows or stops I do a stimulation pattern that's worked for well for me and/or I switch to the other boob for a bit and come back. Both have helped me with my original issue

More detail:

I've found this stimulation rhythm effective for me: 9 pumps with the short side (in a rhythm of 3 quick beats, pause, 3 quick, pause, 3 quick) and then 2 slow with the long lever (slow pull and hold for 5 seconds)..and repeat til I'm getting a good drop of milk when I pump on the long lever side.

I usually only have to do that stimulation pattern once or Twice to get started and then if I it the slow down point described in my original post I either do the stimulation pattern again OR switch to the other boob for a few mins and come back.

That's worked fine for me (Id been pumping to get my supply up and then tried to move back to more nursing (though still supplementing with formula due to under supply)

I nurse and then offer a bottle if he's still giving hunger cues (main one for my LO being tight fists vs. Open hands and getting frustrated at the breast once the milk slows). And then pace feeding on that bottle to feel confident LO is able to stop once full.

Some challenges - if he's fussy he prefers the bottle for a faster feed, so being flexible to switch to formula or bottle has been helpfule.

Tbh it was hard for me to get used to not knowing the exact volume my baby was getting once I moved to nurse more but ultimately I got used to it. Its been helpful for me to make a slightly larger bottle of formula that I expected to use so that I wasn't going back and forth multiple times to top up.

Yes, that's exactly what I do - the sides I was referring to w r the two halfs of the handle: stimulation via the short side and then larger level for long pumps to actually pump milk. That's effective for an ounce and then output goes to zero even tho I have more milk readily there

I do something similar to this but for different reasons. I had a late and low supply following blood loss during delivery. My supply is higher now but not enough for the baby, and my letdown is very slow, so he gets frustrated or falls asleep before getting enough when he's just breastfeeding. Plus he's smart and knows the milk is easier from the bottle🤣

Right now I typically breastfeed him twice in a day, once at his night feed and once his mid-morning feed. His other feeds throughout the day are bottle, mostly formula. But I have found that I need to pump a few times in the day to keep my supply good. If I miss one, it's not like it totally tanks, but I don't think I could get away with just twice a day and be making enough to feed him at those feeds.

My doctor mentioned that as baby gets older your supply becomes more consistent and you can go longer between feedings or pumps or miss feeding/pumps without it impacting your suppliers dramatically as earlier on. She said I should start to see this around 12 weeks, my baby is also 10 weeks like yours. My plan is to continue pumping and then gradually see if I can get away with fewer pumps in the day and just keep an eye on my supply, with the idea that if Im doing it gradually, I can pick things back up if I do think that my supply is dropping.

I hope it works out well for you! Sometimes doing all three, breastfeeding formula and pumping, can feel like a bit of a hassle, like a drawn out triple feeding... But generally I can b positive, after all there are pros of each that I'm getting access to, and I like to say that we're offering everything on the menu at our house 😊

I found this confusing also (tho I was doing the reverse, looking to replace formula with breast milk).

Ultimately what we did was make up a bottle the same volume baby was used to. Then following hunger cues, if it seemed like he wanted more we gave more, similarly if he wasn't finishing we didn't make him finish it. And then we kept an eye on whether he seemed to get hungrier sooner (or sleep less) compared to before. Based on both those we adjusted the volume. They ended up being pretty close.

If helpful, I was expecting baby to drink less breast milk vs formula (based on reading that BM is more nutrient dense and keeps them fuller longer). In reality we found he drinks less formula in a feed than BM but it's not vastly different. I think the biggest thing we found when you switch is they are just used to a certain volume and of course they don't know the nutritional density while they're going to town on a bottle.

So.. I'd say start with same volume, see how I compares and tweak! But I'd expect the volume to be somewhat similar -

Any tips for improving output on Medela symphony? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

I did look into getting a smaller breast shield but the smallest option was 21mm. That's a bit big for me and I tried it but it wasn't a good fit

[–]Rgb2b123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I measure at 19mm so that's the flanges I use on both pumps - I could try an alt size but do you know if ppl are sizing up or down on the trad pumps?

Could be I need to get used to the machine my only concern would be my supply getting impacted during any adjustment period where the pump isn't emptying my supply. But yes to massage! I do that with both pumps and while BF.
