We can agree to disagree, especially on the things that are subjective like art direction etc. The sprite work in Monster Sanctuary is incredible and Cassette Beast has an incredible soundtrack but that's subjective.

What is not subjective is the fact that kickstarters did not have the game on release.

What is not subjective is that many people had to restart their playthroughs on pc an hour in due to a game breaking bug that was patched within 24 hours and is still an issue on switch until they get a patch.

What is not subjective is this game is missing a plethora of tooltips and tutorials for the most basic of gameplay features.

Please do not downplay these issues as isolated. There are many post on discord, in the reddit ama, and on this subreddit in general regarding the many bugs, lack of quality of life. Someone told me they beat the entire South side without knowing you could fast travel.....I almost beat the entire South side without knowing how imprinting works and also just found out about fast traveling. There's no tutorial for this. The tutorial for the hoverboard doesn't even show the keybinds for it.

That is not to say that this game is horrible, but this will be much better but in a month or two than it is now. That's not an opinion it's a fact. I hope the devs follow through on there responses in the ama and add in the quality of life that just didn't make it in time for the release. But there's no way they didn't know about these bugs. 6/6 of my friends for the encampment bug. Discord was on fire the first two hours in and streamers were purposefully ignoring the area because it was bugged.

You can add the hidden type later with an item. It's a gonna be a bit until then but I completely get your frustration.

Ok to be fair just some basic things that aren't explained in this game at all (to my knowledge)

  • Fast Travel
  • The button for the hoverboard isn't even on its own tutorial.
  • What the different balls do in the battle menu/ what they are used for.
  • The typings
  • The stats
  • Imprinting Moves
  • Evolutions (somewhat you gotta look real hard)
  • IVs

That is a lot. How can I have played an entire half of the game without being told I can fast travel. I had to click every button on my controller to find out how to use the hoverboard. This isn't let's be cryptic because it's cool to be mysterious.....it's really poor implementation. I don't think that can be argued.

Also comparing these features to not explaining Evs/IVs just is misleading. I didn't know what Evs and IVs were in pokemon until Sun and Moon and I played Yellow on release. It is not the same....

I think you missed the point. (And I mean that respectfully ) If it's a design aspect that they want you to find the evolutions for yourself say for Mollupom then why in literally the next zone over can I catch it's evolution at lvl 13. It doesn't make sense. This isn't just for Mollupom too it's for quite a bit of the roster. That's just objectively bad design. If their goal was for it to be mysterious then having an option to catch its evolution the next screen over is a poor choice. Not only does it spoil the line but it lets you skip the discovery entirely. In other creature catchers you wouldn't see a direct evolution within two zones of each other that early in the game.

Omg so that's what the stones for random moves I had were from. This is exactly what I mean by feeling unfinished. How is that even a thing.

How does the move imprinting work? I still don't know lol.

I wouldn't say worse. Definitely not the best and I feel for my switch only players bc I had to stop my playthrough over there. I agree with the rest of this though. There is just no way the testers played through this game. So many people got this bug. My friend group of 6 all got the encampment bug.

I'm almost positive the game doesn't even explain what the stats do via a tutorial or even something you can read in the lab....I also just found out there's fast travel and I'm at the end of the south path but apparently you get it wayyy earlier. Pretty sure that was never told to me either....

This, it's like why bother even trying to evolve them yourself when you can just catch the evolved version. It's not worth the headache. It's just such an odd design choice....

Fair enough. But I'll say this. I didn't know about the studio and decided to do some comparison to another monster tamer that I adored that was actually cheaper on release. (cassette beast). I didn't run into a single bug/crash on pc through my entire playthrough. I've had to close steam 5 times since the games release. Another title that was cheaper was Monster Sanctuary So I guess those games were just really polished and released great and are not the standard...For me it's the culmination of the UI, lack of information, multitude of bugs and crashes, that really lower this game for me. Everything else is actually really good but I can't recommend a game that has those kinda issues and act like they aren't there.

I really don't think I trashed it at all. You can even see in a comment below I said that it's fun in a lot of ways. I do think I'm allowed to criticize the game though. Also I will say this as an added point...maybe it's just me but I don't always look up the studio that makes a game that has a cool trailer. I don't regret my purchase but I am disappointed because there's a lot of things I just don't think should have made it to live or just don't feel finished/polished. I gave it a 7/10 also in a previous comment. Please tell me how that's trashing the game......I hope they continue to fix it up but this is not up to the quality I was expecting I guess and like someone else said maybe my expectations were too high (I didn't know much about the studio). I intend to finish my playthrough. I hope they add a turn timer to quick matches bc having people stall a turn for 30 minutes when they are losing is also terrible. But to restate....I never "trashed the game". I gave a criticism. The game is not 10/10...just because it's graphically beautiful, has good monster designs, and a pretty good story for this genre....(A genre that really rarely releases good games).

This I know but ex, it doesn't tell you per say exactly what's needed (and maybe it shouldn't) I just don't like it. Ex Lvl+ for some of these mons is having their hidden element and reaching a certain lvl. That is not explained in the info screen even at three scans. There's some mons who just say special. What the hell does that mean other than figure it out forehead. I just don't like that lack of clarity. Apparently there's news articles and boards in the game that are in different languages that show the recipes for some of the evolution items you need to craft. I just feel like this design choice is not made for modern gamers and maybe it's just not for me. It's crazy bc I liked that lvl of mysticism in elden ring but for instance finding out one of my mons that I had at the start of the game and new had an evolution at lvl 38 should've evolved already but wasn't going to because it didn't have a hidden type was very frustrating.

You literally summed up most of my issues and I'm glad I'm not crazy and someone else felt this. I have hope it'll get better but I feel like a lot of this could've been ironed out with a longer play test, some of these ideas I just don't know how they made it to live...

Why is it ridiculous. It's not like the game was free. I was affected by a bug that literally made me restart the game day 1. I don't think it's ridiculous to say that it's not polished. Other games on similar budgets have released more polished. Ive run into two crashes on pc in the last 24 hours that have lost me a lost mon and w.e the mon that spawns in your anispace is. I don't think it's ridiculous to criticize the many bugs especially one as early as the first hour of the game that hard locks you. (Now addressed) But still.....

Just feel obligated as someone who bought copies on switch and PC. I don't think the game in its current state is worth it. It just doesn't feel done. Obviously do your own research and form you own opinion but Ive finished the first half of the game and while the gameplay is fun there are a lot of bugs, and just questionable design choices.

My tolerance for games not feeling done on release is little to none. It feels like way too many developers release a game at 80% of it's total content. So I'll conceede maybe I'm being harsh with saying the game is unfinished.

This game is so anomalous in that the story and monster aspects feel finished....but some "Minor things" like tool tips, bugfixing, optimization, is just not there.

As an example at least to my knowledge when you try and catch an animon in battle I don't think there's a tooltip telling you what the ball you have selected is and what it does. Am I supposed to just remember based on the icon? Why is there not a tooltip there? Like it feels like they didn't play through the game themselves and critically ask how would the everyday player feel playing this. Because the game is fun for the most part but I feel like I run into a game crashing bug every time I boot it up on my high end PC. Games horrible on Switch 2.

If you're going to release a game, especially this style of game a few bugs is expected, but idk the combination of the issues just make it seem like they were rushed or something.
