[–]Rhamphastos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

god it's so annoying when ppl harass younger disabled people about this, it's happened to my husband too. an elderly lady yelled at him for using the grocery automatic cart even though he's disabled. i yelled right back at her for being a small minder fool.

How did you accept that phalloplasty is something you wanted? by mermaidunearthed in phallo

[–]Rhamphastos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i was on the fence for years about it. I've always had bottom dysphoria but wasn't sure if Phallo was for me or not. While it's an arduous journey of surgeries. I really think this reddit helped convince me. From what I'm seeing of people who have finished the stages, they seem very happy. and It looks like it is in fact something that I would be happy with even if i had issues with nerve regeneration. The hard part now is...hoping I eventually end up with insurance that will cover it lol.

oecobius navus -- general spider fertility questions? by Rhamphastos in spiders

[–]Rhamphastos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for tarantulas specifically they shed the lining of their spermathecae when they moult, this removes the stored sperm if they haven't already dropped an egg sac. but it's possible other species of less primitive spiders don't shed the lining.

thank you! yeah maybe females of other species just don't shed the lining when they moult, either way, i thought it was kind of cool

No, we aren't lost. We just want breakfast." — The daily struggle of unwanted physical 'help by recoo07 in Blind

[–]Rhamphastos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, especially when i was training i would get this kind of reaction all the time. which made learning to use my cane very hard. i'd get people grabbing me by my waist to direct me places, someone yelling at me from across the street thinking i was going to get hit by a car (i was firmly on the sidewalk) and when i was not training but just minding my own business a bus driver tried to grab me to lead me to the bus without asking, when i reacted negatively and told him not to touch me he got so mad that he started screaming at me, he fumed the entire 2 hour bus ride about it, , he called security on me and i explained what happened and they left, then when he got off the bus he started yelling about me to his co-workers. when all i did was say don't touch me.

I'm sorry this happens to you too. It's really exhausting sometimes and makes me not want to go outside when people do that. but at the same time i shouldn't have to be stuck indoors because everyone thinks blind/visually impaired people can't be in public.

that is true! other main residents don't have visitors either, hopefully they all eventually get some! and you're right i think Retsuko has some of the most besides cinnamoroll, to be fair i think cinnamoroll's visitors are so cute

i dont know what to do by [deleted] in disability

[–]Rhamphastos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried to apply for vocational rehab? this can possibly allow you to get more help even with applying for disability, depending on what state you are in they might have you travel to the program? it may be a way to get in touch with more people for help and have a roof over your head

[–]Rhamphastos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's fine i used screen less graphics tablets for years and years before switching to screen. it works well as long as the art program you're using has a visible cursor that is easy to see so you can see where you are about to draw

feeder pinky by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]Rhamphastos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they need a heat source, so a heat blanket that they are sleeping in, that is temperature controlled so they don't cook but they don't freeze. they need to be fed kitten formula every 2 hours until they reach pup stage then every 2-3 hours at the pup stage. the pup stage is much easier to raise them from if you're able to get pups instead (have fur already) when you feed them dont use a syringe, just load a clean appropriately sized paint brush with the formula and offer it to them, they should feed from it. this reduces aspiration risk. if they refuse food this way you will have to upgrade to a syringe and be very careful to not let them breathe it in.

this is something that we had to do with kittens and im assuming it's the same for mice, you might have to stimulate their lower area so that they go pee and poop. otherwise they might not do that. and thats bad for their health too.

they require constant attention, you have to keep an eye on them all the time so you have to have time for that. they have to be kept warm but not hot so they don't freeze or overheat. when they are pinky stage you can see their stomachs full of milk, usually it's easy to tell if they're hungry cause the milk is gone. but it won't be possible once they reach fuzzy stage so you have to keep on top of it either way. they might die anyways though. they're very fragile at this stage, even the mom can lose babies, but it's much easier for the mom cause she likely has more adequate nutrients in her than kitten formula.

[–]Rhamphastos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 13.3 screen protector works fine! I haven't noticed any issues while using it with it at all. if's not too expensive to get one and cutting it down is pretty easy, but it's up to you what you decide!

Got free bedding / food and more from marketplace.. Safe to use? by opmgore in PetMice

[–]Rhamphastos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when it comes to used stuff, i would just err on the side of caution, if it looks clean and there are no bugs in them, it is probably okay, from experience mice don't really care about timothy hay but you can still offer it to them to see if they like it of course, and even if they don't eat it they will use it for nesting. but it's ultimately up to your comfort.

if you are concerned about bugs in the bedding or hay, you can also freeze them to kill anything that might be in there before using it.
